Pants' Size

  • How much weight did you lose before dropping a pants' size?

Also, I have heard that in recent years (when I refused to shop for new clothes) the clothing manufacturer's changed pants sizes and that now "old" sizes are actually one down from what they were. Ex. Old size 10 is now size 8. Is this true?
  • I don't know, I'm kinda wondering the same thing. My coach keeps saying "10lb is a pant size" but I'm not finding that. Maybe in smaller sizes?

I've lost around 25 and my pants are getting pretty loose now, but not falling down. And I can wear a pair I hadn't got into for awhile. And some others still seem to fit the way they did 25 lb ago.

My lower belly is really big and hasn't decreased in size much even though my waist is smaller, so I'm thinking this might be a problem for clothes as I lose.
  • I think that the sizes depend on the designer.
  • I am down 50# and only 1 - 2 pant sizes. Went from 18 to 14, but am still able to where the 16s (although they are a little baggy) I think it depends on tight and stretchy your pants were to begin with. Mine all had spandex in them.
  • I lost 45 lbs in 2014...didn't need new pants until down 15 lbs. I was RIGHT on the edge of plus sizes. I think plus sizes are more like 20lbs...sz 14-10 is 10 lbs and then sz 8 down is more like 5 lbs. Of course, this is from my experience being pear-shaped. My lower half is where i easily put on weight. I am just THRILLED that they make curvy fit pants for ladies like me!
  • Definitely depends on where you carry your weight, and where you lose it, and that may change throughout the weight loss process. I carry my weight in my hips, thighs, and buttocks. In general, it takes 15-20 lbs to go up or down a pants size for me. However I can wear a smaller top after 10 lbs probably...I just don't carry a lot of weight there. Definitely a pear shaped gal! Dress sizes depend on the cut. I can wear a smaller-sized A-line dress than a form-fitting on my lower-half dress. Given my shape, I am used to buying my clothes in different sizes depending on the cut.
