Oct. Newbies 2013 Jumping into July
Hi all,
July is here! Time to focus on meeting our health and fitness goals: losing, maintaining, exercising or de-stressing. |
Happy summer
Sounds like a plan. I am still here plugging along.
Hope everyone enjoys their summer! Happy 4th of July!!! |
Ughhh, de-stressing.... :stress:VERY GOOD IDEA. Soooo looking forward to this upcoming camping vacation.
Hellooooo to everyone out there! Liana |
Hi ladies,
Slip - how is Maine? My kids are on summer vac and doing a month of day camp which is a first for them. How long are you in Maine for? I've always wanted to go. Liana - I have heard about the horrible fires up your way. Have things cleared up? Want2be - hope your dad is doing better. The foam run sounded like a riot I will have to keep my eye out for one in this area. Hi lucclove and to everyone else. Happy Canada day to all you Canadian IPers My weight has been consistently up 2-3 lbs and that is with me making an effort to get those lbs off. Clearly not making a big enough effort and not sure what that's about. Stress around DH job ending and him having interviews but not landing anything. I think the added exercise gets tricky as I start snacking on added carbs. But regardless still fairly happy and guessing this is maintainence for the most part right? |
We had a couple of little spot fires started from the lightning (2 very strong thunderstorms Mon night and Tues night) but they have been taken care of. We are lucky to be a fire training center for the province and actually have lots of other crews come in from neighbouring provinces for extra training, so that means we have a RapAttack base here (the rapid attack guys are the ones that get dropped in via rappel from helicopters in very difficult terrain or fire conditions). So anything that comes our way gets hit hard & fast, as crews need their practice, lol. The big fire that was affecting our area is still burning but 95% contained and the evac orders & alerts are rescinded. Other fires are not affecting towns or structures so those are often left to burn themselves out with minimal control from the firefighters - fire is actually good for the forest - the problem is that they are suppressed for so long that fuel builds up to dangerous levels, or they are interface fires and there is danger to structures and people.
Hahaha, sorry Jenny for the big dissertation. My DH used to fight fire when younger and I find it a very interesting subject. http://www.picturesanimations.com/f/fireman/22.gif On a related note, I worked the Canada Day festivities last night and the firemen of Blind Bay (population 1500) put on an amazing fireworks display! $20,000 worth! There's a lot of money in that area - huge vacation homes on the lake that are second and third houses for many well-to-do people living in other areas as well as retirees from big businesses elsewhere in the provinces. All in all a very calm night and I had no drunks to deal with - even had time to video some of the beautiful fireworks with my phone. One of the more enjoyable paid security gigs I've done, lol. I'm still in my maintenance range too, Jenny, but not quite at the number I like. I suppose in my case I am not working it hard enough to get back down there and have had random moments of what I consider cheating (unplanned rather large carb/fat snack events) - so I guess that's the weight I'm probably going to be now unless I really buckle down & concentrate. Or at least for the next couple of years as menopause gets done. A friend told me that she gained a bit during the 'shutdown' but lost it without effort when all was done. I find it hard to believe I was 8 lbs lighter than today, a year ago - actually 4 lbs UNDER my goal weight (end of June 2014 was my lowest maintenance weight 128 lbs.) Not sure quite how that happened... But it didn't last very long. Liana |
Hi Liana,
I appreciate the info about the fire. I don't actually know much about it and assumed all forest fires bad. The fire works display sounded beautiful. I am so impressed that you are within 8lbs after a year, you are amazing and even more amazing having dealt with menopause, your mom's illness, DH parent's health issues, your own health issues, and working on top of all of that. I had a good weekend, lots of activity and outdpside time. I really want to get 2-3 off, not sure it will all happen this week. But am going to really focus and eat clean, get rid of the sugar devil, go back to the basics like making my own dressing and stuff. Hi to Steph, Slip, Hawaii, Lucci, and everyone else. |
So, my kitchen is a mess of totes packed with camping supplies, as I am working for the next 3 nights before we leave (& sleeping days of course) and DH & I were testing out the stove, and the lantern, and finally took the picnic table cover/travel gazebo down after wind tunnel/thunderstorm testing, lol. Dinners the next couple of nights will be 'very strange, random cleaning out of fridge' meals (tonight was turkey breast cacciatore with lots of chunky peppers & zucchini over black bean spaghetti - low in carb/fat & high in protein) and I have to make sure that all perishables are safely stowed in the freezer or eaten up before Thursday morning.
The first few nights are being spent in Prince George so no perishables until we are ready to shove off from there into a provincial park campground. This evening I have been researching gluten free restaurant choices in the city and came across some amazing sounding places (Thank You, TripAdvisor!). Great Indian food (our favorite) and a wonderful sounding Persian restaurant, plus a gastro-pub with 60 kinds of beer including GF!. I may gain a bit on this trip unless I hike & paddle A LOT. I am trying to figure out camping food for us, as I like to do one pot meals, but I haven't camped properly since I did this diet, so my go-to's seem to be higher in carb than I want. The low carb bean pasta will help, but I also have quinoa, and Lundberg Rice Couscous. I will have to make lunches my fat meal for sure. I've packed my blender bottle and protein smoothie powder and a sack of Quest bars for DH & I to hike with. Some canned veg & meats to be supplemented with sturdy produce at the appropriate time. Any ideas, gals?? Just thinking about it caused me to haul a Toblerone out of the freezer and share it with hubby, both of us gnawing on frozen chocolate so it doesn't melt all over. Temps are still pretty hot here, at least they should be good up north, about 25C daytime down to 8-10C nights. (We have 3 season bags and fleece, lol). I'll try to get back on here before we go... if not, talk to you all near the end of the month. Hang in there ladies, we can do this! :high:  Liana |
Have a great camping trip Liana!
I'm somewhat hopeless when it comes to cooking and then camping totally overwhelmed me! Looking forward to hearing about your meals tho and I'm sure you will both be very active during this trip. Have fun! How is everyone else doing? Slip, how are you doing? Are you feeling rested and eating on your plan? I imagine lots of nice fish to eat in Maine. Hi to everyone! |
Jenny, I am jumping on the scale on Monday and will begin again. We have a huge family event on Sat. Pretty sure that I have quite a bit to lose, but I will not give up the fight. While I am not happy that my pants don't fit, I needed a break. I am sure that my reboot will include a huge sugar withdrawal, :P
Unfortunately, there are consequences to month long breaks. I am finally relaxing and feel almost back to my calm self. The garden is looking great and I have spent this week catching up with friends. How are you? Hawaii, where are you? Want2b, are you getting in fit form for your family reunion? |
Hi everyone;
Well, its been an extremely busy time. My daughter graduated, we had a surprise 25th anniversary, went to a convention, had a bunch of family visit. Then we went on a holiday. Needless to say, the weight is still up. But, I'm not giving up and plan to get those lbs back down. The rest of the summer should be quieter so I am going to focus on the eating and exercising. I want to feel more comfortable in my clothes. And I am determined to get back to where I feel good. I hope you are all enjoying your summer. |
Hi everyone,
Summer is chugging along. So many social events! Had a nice phase 1 breakfast today. Too much focus on all OP or nothing for me. My pledge is to eat very healthy when I am at home. I was getting carried away with my break/slide. I also do not want the isolation that comes with Phase 1, so for the rest of the summer I am going to do a hybrid of the Phases. I think that if I limit my carbs, so of this puffiness will go away. I am going to call it clean eating. If I focus my choices on protein, veggies and water. I should be okay even while out, but I am not giving up wine! |
Hi everyone,
Day3 of clean eating. I was have been experiencing pain in my neck, jaw and left eye for the past couple of weeks. I have had ocular migraines before but none that have lasted for more than a couple of days, so I dragged my behind to the Drs. and was there from 10:30 until 3:00! The wait was long and the blood work results longer. I was starving at the end! They are thinking it is either an inflamed nerve or Lyme disease. 3 Meds later, I am hoping to feel better. How are all of you gals? Hawaii, your business this summer seems like a lot of fun! Kooky, congrats on achieving your goal of walking 40+ miles for the Komen Foundation to cure breast cancer. Liana, hope your camping is fun! Jenny, read on the other thread that you are at goal! Yahoo for you. |
Day 4 of clean eating is complete, but I am so hungry tonight! Must be the prednisone :( I told a friend that I was hungry and she said, "how do you deal with that?" My response was that IP taught me that I would not die from being a little hungry.
Hope that you are all having fun. |
Slip - were they able to confirm wether it was Lyme disease? My cousin's husband had it, had so much trouble in Canada getting proper diagnoses and ended up going to the US for it and treatment. This summer there have been a lot of postings on Facebook about checking your body for Lyme disease. Great work with clean eating and I think taking a break is important when you need it and you were able to totally jump back on the plan.
Hawaii - sounds like a busy but fun time you've been having. Did your daughter graduate from College? I hope Liana is having a great time camping. I'm trying to focus on staying at goal eight more constantly and working on my exerciseing. Have been enjoying some nice long bike rides which is a nice break on the knees from running. Hi to everyone |
Jenny, it is not Lyme according to the test, but the headache/ eye pain has not changed even on the medicine. Ugh, between TOM, starving, and this headache- I feel crummy :( and I am having nine of my family for dinner in the garden tomorrow for my brother's birthday. Just have to keep on, keeping on.
I am so glad that you are enjoying the bike riding. How is your Tri training going? Any news with DH's job? Are you on FB? |
Not as clean with eating today. Almost passed out twice today- carb flu on top of my headache and Meds-maybe? So I ate a small amount of the potato salad for tomorrow. I have too much to get done, to feel that bad.
Jenny, I did need to take a break, but I felt pretty out of control(old food behavior) Really, some of it was not worth it and I have done 5.5 days of Phase 1 to eliminate some of my consequences. I still have not faced the scale. I am going by clothing fit right now because I do not want to see the current damage. Just have to pick my self up and move forward. |
Hi All!
Just wanted to say hello! It is about 106 with the heat index in DC today - crazy! I am doing ok. Still doing P1 I am just trying to make it to 200. I am at 209 but it is very hard for me to stay on this for much longer. Slipfree I hope u feel better. |
Luccilove, you can do it. I know it stinks and it seems impossibly difficult, but I keep trying to remember it is not about the size of our clothes but the numbers on our medical charts. There are a lot of things that have not changed since losing weight, but one thing I know for sure- I am healthier overall. Try to stick with it my friend.
Ps. Headache still here, but party was great. |
Hellooooo again!
Good to see you again Hawaii & LUCCI! Yikes about possible Lyme disease, Slip, & even if it isn't, migraines are just sooo nasty (they run in my family - brother, uncle, cousins, but thankfully not me). Hope you are feeling better soon. My neverending story is posted on Maintainers Vol 19 so I won't go into it again, lol. I did want to bring our thread to page one again to help get our mojo back! Did you get to see any of the Pan-Am Games, Jenny?? http://www.picturesanimations.com/b/bubblegums/139.gif Liana |
Hi Liana, not Lyme, inflammation of the the nerve that runs from neck, jaw and eye. And yes, it sucks! Am trying to stay positive and ignore it as much as possible. On a positive note, I found a cute dress for my niece's wedding!
I miss all of you! Post soon, even if you are not working IP right now. |
Hi all;
Well, I'm still sitting 15lbs up from where I want but trying not to panic. I will get it off. I'm still running up to the hospital to see my Aunt. She's been in for 8 weeks now. She had a very successful surgery today and will be going home in a week probably. Summer is a challenging time for trying to schedule anything. I want to get back to my good exercise regimen. I miss doing it especially because its 'therapy' for me. Hope that you are feeling better Slip! I'd love to see a picture of you in that cute dress! Liana; read your crazy camping story on the maintainers thread. Too bad! Lucci; I can relate to how you are feeling. But, I like Slips advice about health. That is my greatest motivator. Jenny; you continue to be my inspiration!! Hello to all the rest! I hope you are having a great summer. |
Hawaii- glad your aunts surgery was a success. You are so committed to your plan and you will reach your goal without a doubt. I hope you find time for your exercise. My exercise is my therapy to:)
Slip- good for your for doing a full week phase 1. I'm you'll be back to your goals soon. From your posts it seems like your body responds swell to clean eating. I want to see a pic of you in the cute dress to! Liana - no Pan-am games for me. I barely got to watch it on tv. Hoping to catch some this week.. Luccilove - you can do it! You are so close keeping. I'm doing a practice Tri tomorrow morning 400metre swim, 20km bike and 5km run. It will be at the same site as Iron Girl in a few weeks so I'll be able to check it out. Had my WI today, up 1.5 from last week but ok with that. Had a sandwich for lunch - can't remember the last time I had one. It was a nice treat. Did a bit too many carbs today but back on plan tomorrow. |
Slip - hope that you are feeling better and your dinner party goes smoothly. Hard to be a host when your not feeling 100%.
DH got his official notice for the end of aug. Has had a few interviews but no job offer yet. Thanks for asking. In am on FB Jennifer Yates. |
Hi Friends,
I'm here, I check in often but just don't have too much to say. I'm still maintaining but I don't like how I'm doing it. I keep having to use Phase1/2/3 to fix weekends away/events etc. I keep wanting to get down another 5-10 lbs and then something comes up. I go off the rails and have to fix it. At least I'm fixing it I guess. I planned a 4 night trip back home in August and hope to get my shiz together after that. Slip: The lyme disease thing is pretty tricky and seems here in Canada only naturopathic doctors can diagnose and treat it. I'm convinced my mother has it but her standard Canadian test came back negative. Unfortunately she lives in a small town without a naturopath and can't get any further testing there. Hi to you all. It sounds like we're all still fighting the good fight. Thanks for still being here :) S. |
Hi everyone,
Cheers to us! Many of us are still working it! Steph, I feel the same way- off the rails- fix it. Never ending work. I am up about 10 pounds and I feel it in my waist. Weird, because I feel so fat because my pants are tighter :( Just not comfortable. Jenny, I have been trying to do the exercise DVDs or hard gardening every day during the last 2 weeks. I would not characterize the walk off the pounds DVDs as intense though :) Have fun at the lake! Hawaii, I am so glad you checked in! You have had an stressful summer. I hope that your aunt's surgery goes well. 10-15 pounds is not 40-50! We can deal with this challenge. I am trying to focus on one healthy change a day. I do need to up my water-see tomorrow's focus decided ;) Please say Hi to Hiker! Want2b, where are you???? Luccilove, how ya doin, friend? |
Hello to everyone!!!
I am decided this week I will not cheat even a little and I will stick to P1 religiously and so far I have been doing it. Is it hard - yes. Am I tired of doing this - yes. But I am also tired of being sick and tired. My weigh in is this Monday I will let u all know how it goes. At this point I would be happy to get to under 200 and then maybe 190 and then see what happens. |
Hang in gals, it's been a bit of a rough one for most of us but we know we can continue and stay/get healthy!
Pinched nerve/inflammation really is painful especially in the face, Slip. I will try a FB friend at ya, Jenny! A bit of exercise & eating right will take us into the fall feeling sleeker & stronger. http://www.picturesanimations.com/b/...intonner20.jpg Liana |
Hi friends,
I am just going to say it! " sometimes, skinny, just damn crazy" I worked my buns off for book club- beautiful garden, tasty carb filled food, and one person ruined 4 days worth of work. Such a long story! Screaming at her son, then her parents during dinner. No words! |
Slip: What the heck?! You'll have to explain when you're ready.
I had a really great busy night at my IP clinic. I'm on holidays from my regular day job so I got a taste yesterday of what life would be like just working for myself and I loved it! I am looking forward to making the transition. I had a perfect Phase 1 day yesterday. For some reason I have no problem doing one day but any more than that seems torturous. Anyone else struggle multiple Phase 1 days? My birthday is next week and I've already been dreaming of cake :P |
Slip- that does not sound like a good night!
Steph - I struggle doing multiple p1 days but try to tell myself just to take it day by day. I'll be doing it with you next week Luccilive - your doing awesome, hang in there. Liana - would love it if you found me on fb. Heading home tomorrow and will be working hard to get some holiday lbs off. I have been pretty relaxed this week with food but have tried to keep some balance. I've had tons of veggies, IP food, and water no alcohol. It has been the sugar and some of the kids fries that has been my undoing. |
I am avoiding looking at the scale which is so unlike me as I am an obsessive weighter. I know I'm up but I don't want to look. I have to WI Friday with coach so I'm going to work hard to do P1 for the next 3 days and ultimately till I get back to 163. Ok - I've posted it here so this will make me accountable.
|
Jenny38--U can do it!!!!
At least we have the tools to fix it if we do gain weight. I am learning that the hard way. I am going on a cruise beginning of September and we decided to phase me off to do kinda of a trial of all the phases. So this week is my last week on P1 and then P2. I will go to a seminar next week about P4. P3 & P4 make me nervous. I saw my diabetes dr (endocrinologist) and he said 150lbs is very unrealistic for me. He said anything under 200 would be great for me between 170-190. I agree with that for the most part. |
Hi all,
I too, am avoiding the scale and struggling. Family wedding this weekend, 2.5 weeks until school starts. Just not ready to buckle down yet, but I am really hating the tire around my waist. I have been working on finding a natural way to handle my headaches and intense PMS. I have unfortunately been turning to crutch foods to deal with it. In the long run, I am just making it worse since all the books about peri menopause say to limit carbs. Ugh! Luccilove, phasing off is a better plan than jumping off. Even after phasing off for my Maine vacation last year, the increase in carbs= a 12 pound gain. The key (which I am failing at right now) is to not go off the deep end and get right back on track. Jenny, I really wish that my 100% determination would come back. I dread the carb flu- mine lasts for days :( but, I am not going to let this backslide turn into a return to life as an overweight person. |
That's OK gals... we are all climbing back in the saddle again and will be rolling along soon.
Jenny38, I can't seem to find the right Jennifer Yates on FB... unless you are the Make-Up Artist who does awesome work by the way... Is your name spelled correctly or do you go by Jen or ????. Tried a search several times. P1 tomorrow, see you all there, lol. Liana |
I too am in a slight struggle but keeping going. I just keep telling myself at least I am maintaining the up lbs - I am a few lbs over my scream weight now for about a month, I'll pop down under it and then pop back up. Hearing everyone on the same battleground actually is helpful.
My eating isn't out of control but my main issues are stress, lack of sleep, and lack of exercise due to time pressures. These next few weeks I have much less to do, and more R&R time, but don't want to go back to P1, and hoping week by week over the next month to just drop back down without being drastic. I do want to do round of a few weeks in P1 in October, but not yet. I don't want to just chalk it all up to summer, but today I realized also it is summer, and I have several nice trips coming up, and I have worked hard to be at a healthy weight, and I don't want to do a longer stint of P1 during the summer. I spent a long time on holidays and vacations being really strict, even for several years before P1, and I like easing it up this summer without being out of control. Even if I just maintain this weight until October I feel good about that, and my coach keeps telling me any maintenance, even a few lbs above goal, is a huge success. |
Hi everyone,
I just order Janeeva's Phase 1 cookbook. I see a re-boot coming in Sept. and want to be prepared. Amber, it is definitely summer for me. During the school year, I do not drink wine during the week. Social lunches/dinners like crazy during this time of year. Also, I spend a lot more time on my own, get bored, and turn to food. I can totally relate to your lack of sleep and stress. Liana, thanks for being so positive! I can't find Jenny either on Facebook. Would love to connect with you there too. |
Hey there!
It sounds like we are all having our own struggles but still determined to not give up! I too have a plan for September, back to healthy eating and exercise. I hate putting on clothes that feel too snug and my tummy roll spilling over my pants. Uncomfortable! But, I know what I have to do. Thanks for listening! |
So since I will be phasing off for a little bit I have a question that I cant figure out.
Say you are on P4 and u really go off plan and gain 5-10lbs what do you do? Are you suppose to go to P1 and if so how do you do this if you don't have packets or do you have packets? I am confused by this. |
Liana - I PM you my email to see if that helps. I'm listed as living in Burlington and nope not the make up artist, I'm hopeless at my own make up.
Lucci - I got back to regular IP food for phase 1 and eat the packets, I will also substitute a why shake from Costco and will use simply bars. I never did alternatives, seemed to hard. I also am not 100% p1 but try my best and then go back to P3 and 4 when done. I think tho if I'm on it longer I may go thru p2 for a couple days. Slip - I hear what your saying about work, it totally structures my eating. I would find being off all summer a huge challenge. Looks like we are all getting back on track together which we can totally do. We got this ladies!! |
I think I found you, Jenny... sent you an FB request & message.
Lucci... that's where I am at right now, lol. Up too much to just smarten up with a lower carb Maintenance (I'd do that for 5lbs at my height) - I start these past couple days P1, but that seems to change at 10 pm to 'Freybe Damn Hot Pepperoni & Old Cheddar' time. Really not high in carbs, but certainly way too much protein and calories to lose much. So.... P1 again tomorrow but I have to work on City Patrol so I will pack ALLOWABLE snacks (not pepperonis). I am using Vega protein smoothie powders and Quest Bars for my 'packets'. http://www.picturesanimations.com/a/...derland/42.gif Liana |
