Does anyone know if you have to have a restricted item every day or can I just eat 3 non-restricted items?

kmars4809 04-29-2015 03:18 PM

My understanding is that you have 3 protein packs a day but only 1 of those can be restricted if you so choose to have one. So yes you can eat 3 non-restricted packets.

Briael 04-29-2015 03:23 PM

The IP protocol was designed with the restricted item being part of the program. It won't hinder weight loss, and you won't speed it up by cutting it out.

If you don't like the items that fall in the restricted category then by all means cut them out, but remember to ensure that you are getting enough healthy fats and carbs to stay HEALTHY. Nobody wants to lose weight and get less healthy. :)

TaraR 04-29-2015 06:14 PM

Cool! Thanks!

It won't affect ketosis, but it might slow losses a little because each meal raises your blood sugar. If your blood sugar rises too high or too quickly you will provoke a release of insulin. Insulin's primary function is to reduce the sugar level in the blood (it stores excess sugar as fat in white fat cells).

One of the primary objectives of the IP protocol is to minimise the insulin release so the pancreas has a reset and learns to use insulin in correct proportions. Many, if not most, overweight and obese people have some degree of insulin sensitivity or overproduction.

Once you've been in ketosis for a couple of weeks you will find that the hunger hormones (ghrelin and leptin) settle down and you don't experience hunger in the same way. This is the time to regulate your meals down to the standard 4 per day.

There is, however, no problem in splitting your 8 raw oz lean protein across lunch/dinner or eating your "free/unlimited" salad/veg items at any time you choose. They are generally 1-2 carbs at most, and that is offset by the amount of fiber in them.

Hmmm.. So maybe it'd be best if I move one of my IP products to a meal period instead. That way I would be at 4 meals/day instead of 5 and provoke less insulin release.

In other words, this:

B - IP
L - 4 oz protein + 2 c veg + IP
D - 4 oz protein + 2 c veg
S - IP

would be better than what I'm currently doing some days, which is this:

B - IP
L - 4 oz protein + 2 c veg
S - IP
D - 4 oz protein + 2 c veg
S - IP

??

I'm only 6 days in, but I'm already not particularly hungry and most days could easily go without the 3rd IP packet (hopefully that lasts!).

jengele 04-29-2015 11:11 PM

Weigh In!!

Depends which packet you are adding. You might want to use the chicken soup and add in some shredded chicken with the 2c of veggies. But do you really want to get into the habit of having , say, a pudding packet as a lunch meal?

Aim to bring it more in line with the 4 meals per day, but don't panic about having the food split over 5 meals for now, so much as making sure that you get all your food requirements (I prefer to think of them as reqs rather than allowances) in. If you're still seeing decent or good losses then it's obviously not harming you. Keep reassessing how you feel, how much protein you can take it, what you can do to align it, but you're always going to have days when you struggle to get any form of eating routine going.

Bella73123 04-30-2015 10:14 AM

First weigh-in after my restart last week, down 5.4lbs. That's exciting!

Bagchick 04-30-2015 10:14 AM

my first week and I'm down 7 lbs. I'm really excited as it was pretty easy and my cravings are gone. Well, I now have cravings for those delicious PB and choc protein bars! Who knew?

Interesting. My coach discouraged me from eating restricted items until I just couldn't stand it anymore, so I've only been eating unrestricted items.

Just had 2nd weigh in. Down another 3.6 lbs :D Almost 13 lbs in two weeks? I'll take it! It would probably take me 6 months to lose that much using conventional dieting, because I seem to average 1/2 a lb a week MAX.

Feeling encouraged so far!

1st Weigh-in

1 week down so excited for my first weigh in but a little nervous. My scale at home has just gone up and down all week by 5-6lbs. either lost or gained back :( It's been a rough week trying to come up with things to eat, I swore I would not and could not eat a salad everyday but thanks to WF I now think I will be able to eat salad all the time I love their Creamy Bacon and had the Big Mac bowl last night it was amazing with the Thousand Island. I have practically ordered everything on their website anxiously awaiting it's arrival. This Blog has been great when I need to look for variety the What did you eat today has so many yummy ideas. I will check back after 4:30 wish me luck. :o

knm 04-30-2015 02:22 PM

Wowzers! Congrats to all the fabulous weigh ins this week! You're all kicking butt!

Bongo - I wouldn't worry too much about about WHEN you're eating everything, as long as you ARE eating everything. For now just stick to the basic protocol and do what you have to do to stay satisfied. If you having 5 snacks/meals a day keeps you on track, do that. Once you get closer to goal your weight loss will probably slow down and then you might want to start playing with it a little more and limiting when you eat certain foods (some people omit restricteds all together or only eat them before 3:00). For now, if you're continuously losing, I would say just do what keeps you happy and on track!

Weight Ticker

Can someone please tell me how to get those cute weight loss count down tickers?

RA 2 04-30-2015 02:35 PM

Welcome Karebear! Lisa posts the instructions for the tickers at the beginning of the daily/weekend threads. It is pasted below:

Tickers and Signatures:
There are 2 requirements to have access to signatures and tickers. You must have been a member of 3fatchicks for 20 days AND posted at least 20 messages anywhere on the 3fatchicks forum. When you've met those requirements check The Ultimate Signature and Ticker Thread for more information and instructions (the link is in her post). Enjoy!

Hosegirl 04-30-2015 03:10 PM

Well, frankly that stinks. Why should we have to wait 20 days when we have been posting in the forum right off the bat. I look at this sight as a place to get encouragement and advice. I can post right of the bat but need to wait 20 days to be able to add a simple ticker.

Karebear2269 04-30-2015 03:22 PM

yeah that does stink

Karebear2269 04-30-2015 03:26 PM

Thank you RA 2 for the info

New IP'er

Hello!

This is my first time trying IP Diet and I just started IP a week ago and had my first WI today. 6lbs lost the first week! Had a couple of hiccups and was glad to see that I still did okay.

Hope to gain encouragement and support from this board!

Thank you for the advice. I will just try do do what seems to work best on any given day and not sweat the small stuff. You are so right about "you're always going to have days when you struggle to get any form of eating routine going." I guess it's OK and I just need to be flexible with myself (especially because my personality doesn't agree with having too much structure/planning - that actually stresses me out more!). I'm definitely not even in a routine yet anyway. Some days I've done a larger dinner with all my protein, some days I've split, some days I've eaten more meals early, and some days I've had to scramble to get everything in at the end of the day.

More good advice on not micromanaging this diet. Your words were so reassuring. Thanks!

kmars4809 05-01-2015 02:49 PM

Just had my second weigh in and down 3 lbs, 4.5 inches, and 1.9 % body fat.

Although it seems slow --6.6 lbs in two weeks, my coach said most women only loose 2lbs per week. Very happy with my results.

Not being able to have a ticker yet seems like a very strange rule.

LexiChanel1 05-01-2015 04:14 PM

Karebear2269,

Welcome, I did the cellulite protocol maybe three days total but not all at once. I did one every few weeks. I get really weak when I don't eat any meat, so it was super tough for me. I don't have a ton of cellulite past 125 lbs and under tho, im lucky in that I have thin legs. I would do the cellulite protocol when I was stalling in my weight loss and I needed to get the scale moving. I remember I was stuck at 125 and 121 for too long.... I did it to get the scale to move. I plan on trying to do it this time when I get stuck too. Does that help? Lmk if you need anything else, I am here :)

IttyBittyKitty 05-01-2015 05:22 PM

Hi All!

Restarter here. I did IP back in 2012 with great success, and was able to keep the weight off up until 6 months ago.

Life happened and after a series of life-changing misfortunes, I regained almost all the weight back.

I had a really great coach the first time around, and this time I don't feel as supported. There aren't many clinics offering it near me, so I settled on the lesser of the evils. It's at a laser clinic and they keep trying to sell me stuff I don't need (B12 injections, laser for cellulite, etc.). I'm really hoping that I won't fall off the wagon, as I really want to feel healthy again.

It's day 2 for me, and I'm already experiencing the headache/nausea. I definitely don't miss this, but I know that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Good luck to everyone!

WMegs5 05-01-2015 09:12 PM

Passed one major hurtle yesterday - meeting a bunch of folks at a local government event and not drinking (open bar) or eating anything off-protocol (e.g., all the passed appetizers)! Stuck with 8 oz Salmon (not marinated) on a salad with cucumbers and 2 tsp olive oil. Win!

Good luck in your journey! It seems like you're really ready to make this a permanent thing this time. I didn't have headaches, but I know what you mean about the nausea. I was very nauseated for about 1 day. It passed quickly for me, and I hope it does for you too.

Hi everyone,
My second time on IP. So happy to be here with all of you!

fiannalove 05-03-2015 01:56 PM

What's the cellulite protocol?

dkc71 05-03-2015 09:15 PM

Hi April Starters. My 3rd weigh-in last week gave me a 5 lb loss! I was thrilled.
I lost 9.7 the first week and 1.8 the second (hormones!). The third week was so much easier. I do have an occasional hungrier than normal day and I just add an extra shake.

I'm on the road Sat-Thursday this week. I made the mistake of packing little oil/vinegar homemade dressing in my suitcase. Thank god I double ziplocked them! I had bought little containers for them which claimed to be leakproof- word to the wise, airplane pressure can cause havoc on containers so always ziploc those liquids!

I'll be working at a tradeshow at Disney the next few days. I'll bring my bar and shakes as I have no idea what food options will be available. These days I find myself eating all of my protein and most of my vegetables at dinner.

Hosegirl 05-04-2015 09:10 AM

Hang in there. I am new to this as well. I did get a headache once but tat was it.

Sorry but it's just bunk. Here's the real information on cellulite: It's mainly a connective tissue 'thing' in addition to the underlying fat. Even anorexics can have cellulite.
http://www.leanitup.com/what-is-cell...-of-cellulite/

An interesting thread on cellulite:
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...hp?t=126517043

Just keep up your IP protocol and you will be losing fat which will help with its appearance and if you start working out, keep drinking lots of water, and try for less processed foods in maintenance that will improve it. BUT since 80-90% of women of all sizes have it, you will never completely eradicate it.
Just FYI, men don't seem to even notice it on us, lol. It's just a manufactured insecurity.

Liana

I was wondering the same thing!

Has anyone tried any new recipes they particularly like lately? I still haven't made the crack slaw I read about a few days ago, but it's on my list. Mainly, so far I've been keeping my protein meals simple: taco meat on salad greens, sauteed shrimp with cauliflower rice, chicken breast with steamed broccoli, smoked salmon and crudites, etc.

I did find these "grilled Mediterranean chicken skewers" at Costco that are precooked and taste just fine heated in the microwave. Most work days, I'm splitting my protein between lunch and dinner so these have been very convenient for throwing in my lunch kit in the morning, no prep required. 2 skewers is 4 oz chicken. Has anyone else tried them?

Check the ingredients on any marinade prepared meats, sometimes they have stuff we don't want while on IP... They have to print the ingredients - it's the law, even if they are on the flipside of the label, there is usually a peel back tab (like on pill bottles) so you can check Nutrition Facts and ingredients and cooking directions. I'm thinkin' Mediterranean has basil, oregano, garlic, & pepper, possibly dried lemon peel. Easy to make at home too as a rub for your (boring old) chicken or turkey breasts. Use a tiny bit of EVOO - just enough to moisten the spices and rub into the meat and let sit in the fridge for a couple hours (or more).

Liana

Hosegirl 05-05-2015 08:42 AM

Second weigh in tonight. I was thinking today that I find the IP diet easy to follow. At this point I do not have to worry about what to pack or have for breakfast, lunch or snack. I just have to worry about dinner. How simple is that.
