  • Yes Liana so true. I liked all that you wrote.
I know when I was growing up in the 70s I remember trying on my Mom’s stuff from the 50s and also the 60s and was struck by how different it all fit. The 50s stuff was much better for my body type (curvy, kind of hourglass) and the 60s stuff was so weird and none if it fit right though I liked how it looked. Didn’t know that about the flappers but thinking about it, it makes sense.
  • Another 90 minute hot yoga tonight - it felt soooooo good. It was super intense and really hard for me, and I loved that. I have been doing 60 minute sessions where I used to live for a few years, but haven’t done 90 for about 3 years, so the change up is really good.

I also met someone new there and we agreed to meet at 6am for another one Wed. morning. Growl - I am not an early morning girl, but don’t have time in the nights again until later this week, so it’s a good idea I know. I know myself, on Wed. morning I would wake up and say “forget it” if I wasn’t meeting someone there, so that’s great.

I add Pilates/weights back in on Friday, and also it seems to have stopped @#*&(‘ing raining for a little bit so I can walk during the days again.

Still have quite a bit of water retention for some reason but deciding not to worry about it - it will go away when it does. I’ll check with the doctor next week when I have my annual appt. - I have a feeling it’s hormones.
Usually the hot yoga helps some with moving the water out so we’ll see.

Oh… note to self…. I need to up my water since it’s getting hot here. Duh. That will help a little also.
  • This thread has been so helpful to me! I am restarting IP after gaining the weight I lost several years ago. I enjoy exercising, and feel I need to continue going to the gym while on the diet. Thanks so much for the advice given here about how to do that safely!
  • Welcome mkfrances and best wishes - let us know how it goes.
  • Thanks, Amber! Actually, after reading how much you enjoy yoga and pilates, I'm going to try out a pilates/ weight lifting class at my gym tomorrow. I'll post and let you know how it goes!
  • I hope it is fun! I didn't start the Pilates until P4 - I didn't think my body could handle building much extra muscle during P1 - but that was just my own intuitive thing for my own body.
You definitely can do Pilates more "easy" also - same was with weights - you choose how hard/long/how much weight or tension to use.
  • Ran/walked (being mindful of my HR the whole time) for 60 minutes yesterday. A grand total of 3 miles. I am not out to set any land-speed records, but MAN it feels good to work out my (now smaller) body! I really think that played a huge part in my BF% going down by 6 whole points this week! Weww heww!

I intend to keep that up, every other day, and working in some weight training on the "off" days. Going slowly and listening to my 50-year-old joints and knees is my intended course.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Yes anything requiring moving my much smaller body is sooooo much easier now. I’m so grateful.
  • Love this thread! Thanks for the support and motivation to move!
  • I am trying to strengthen my core with planks and tone a bit with resistance bands. I am running into some trouble with the latter. Does anyone know of a good resource for resistance band demonstrations?

Also, I am afraid to tell my coach I am exercising or note it in my journal. She has been very anti-exercise because the diet is so restrictive, but if I don't do some work outs then I am afraid I'll have a lot of loose skin.

Here's a couple of decent sites: (I used to be a Physical Rehab Assistant so I know bands and Swiss Balls, lol)

    Longer more detailed workout here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fgjeJZfeAs I like this one the best as you can workout with her for a 1/2 hour - good instructions & posture too.

Bands are great portable workout equipment!

  • Jogged/walked 1.5 miles (mostly uphill - at least it felt that way!) in the morning and walked the same route after dinner. It really feels good to get moving again! My son and I are preparing for a 5K next Sunday. I think it's important for him to be encouraged to be as active as possible, since I had gestational diabetes when pregnant with him and it runs in my family like crazy.

  • Had my first <30 minute 2 mile walk today!!! Average pace was 14:39! Huge improvement
  • So, I may have upped my road work a wee bit too soon. I have what I know from experience to be hip flexor strain and/or ITB Syndrome. So no big runs, rest, and stretching for a few days for me.

sorry marci- hip flexor issues here too but the chiropractor I've started going to has made a HUGE difference. Gave me some special exercises to help "refire " the parts of the leg she doesn't think have been working correctly- thus leading to the hip flexor issue. She's a Dr. with a hockey team (lots of hip / groin injuries) so I trust her good luck!
