2bskinny - WTG surviving P2!! and with a loss too :) What's the hardest part of moving to P2, if any?

Sue - yay for your pound, and inches gone! Like you said, take any loss. I love how you're always prepared and thinking ahead!!

Meeting a friend today for lunch, she's the one who told me about IP and has been in maintenance since September. I'm going to pick her brain a bit about the rest of the process.

CenTXChk 03-11-2015 10:26 AM

Hey guys! Just wanted to pop in and check on my summer peeps. Everyone is doing so well. Not only changes in weight but lots of inches too = looser clothes!! Those are the best NSVs.

Tough last several days for me. My mother is not doing well. She has had health issues for years but 2 years ago was diagnosed with lymphoma. Chemo nearly killed her and her recovery has been long and arduous. Her quality of life has never reached her pre-cancer days. She has been suffering from migraines since Oct and finally got an MRI which found cancer again. She is declining any kind of treatment. They have already called hospice. Dr said maybe 6 months. My sister and I found medical docs online that suggest closer to 4-6wks upon diagnosis. One she starts declining, it will be fast.

Although my mom has been sick for years and I know ultimately this is what she wants and we will follow her wishes….it doesn’t make it any easier. God bless my father who has been her caregiver for years and is committed to keeping her home and as comfortable as possible. They live about 3.5hrs away from me. My work has been great saying to take the time I need. I know I will be beating a path back and forth between us. Already trying to figure out when go get down there. Ugh. Was already planning to go next weekend but now I wonder if that’s too long. So hard watching your parents get older and have health issues.

Anyway, if I am not around or my usual upbeat self, you know why.

I'm here to share that I just finished my first complete week on Phase 2 and I survived :). My coach told me today that anything I lose in Phase 2 will come back in 3 and 4. So I suppose we shall see. But, I did manage to lose 1.4lbs this week.

Congrats on reaching goal and phasing off! I am looking forward to joining you there :)

JJTx, that's great that you can pick your friend's brain, feel free to post anything share worthy and have a great visit.

I'm so sorry to hear this!! Taking care of aging parents is difficult, especially long-distance.

I'm glad work is being understanding, sometimes that's half the battle. Also please trust me from experience - if your mom is lucid (and even when she's not) spend ALL the time with her that you can!

Know that we're here for you, just a post or PM away!!

winewanderer 03-11-2015 01:18 PM

CenTXChk -- I'm so sorry that you are going through this. I know how difficult it is to try to take care of an aging parent from a distance. I'm glad your work is supportive and hope you can make your remaining time with your mother meaningful. What a difficult time.

JJTx -- you asked about the most difficult part of P2. My experience is that, even if swapping the protein for a packet seems like a small change, it feels like a lot more food. So the challenge is (1) making another protein serving each day, and (2) getting down the extra protein. Notwithstanding the extra protein, my rate of loss actually picked up on P2. After weeks of one pound losses, I actually lost 2 pounds a week on P2. So it's a new challenge, but it can be rewarding!

DeterminedDieter 03-11-2015 01:25 PM

CenTXChk, I'm sorry for the pain and hardship facing you and your family. I hope that with the time left you will be able to have some quality time with your Mom and family, and create some good memories to add to the existing ones.

shasta10 03-11-2015 07:28 PM

Well, I decided to take the plunge and actually start P2. I am 5 pounds from goal but have stalled for awhile and would have cheated on P1 on vacation (maybe just wine) but after see sawing on the decision and asking the maintainers, I decided to just start P2. Weirdly, I spent all this time last night cooking and I was ready for both lunch and dinner tonight and then FORGOT to eat this morning. Weird, I have not been able to miss breakfast or even a 10:30 mid-morning snack (so by 10:30 I've had 2 IP packets/bars) without getting dizzy etc. So around noon today I freaked out because seriously? I had my lunch which I broke into 2 protein portions so I could do the same and divide it up. So, a weird way for me to start but I started.

SOOO sorry for you! Speaking from personal experience, what you and your sister found online is what my experience was - 5 weeks and I didn't see it coming so my advice as someone else shared, is not to wait - be there while your Mom is lucid - we had some good times in those 5 weeks. I took a leave of absence from work when we found out a similar prognosis, and it is time that I treasure that I had with her. I was further comforted by my Mom knowing in the last few weeks that I was there for her and did all I could to help her.

((((((((HUGS)))))) CenTx :( I am so sorry and can only say please take this time to be with your mom if you can. It was a year ago, April 24 we were told dad had liver cancer (he survived prostate cancer in '07). He wanted to do treatment again but was already too weak. We were told 2 - 6 months, depending on his will, and unfortunately he passed 2 weeks later on May 7. He was already too sick and I wish we'd had more time. Cancer sucks - my thoughts and prayers to your family.

CenTXChk 03-11-2015 10:25 PM

Thanks so much for everyone's kind comments. I really can't express how much it means.

I called my dad tonight (after only speaking with my sister yesterday) to talk and hear his opinion on everything that happened with the doctor yesterday. Next week is my kid's spring break and we had planned a several day camping trip starting this Fri, but I think I may ditch my DH and head to my folks this weekend and next.

Trying to find the bright side, as badly as I've wanted a glass of wine, I have stuck 100% OP so far. This kind of stress is certainly something that would have driven me to the pantry previously. My sister has mentioned twice turning to food and twice I've told her to step away from the girl scout cookies and junk. Gotta find the positives where I can.

 oh I am so sorry! I have been through much the same with my mother in law. We were really very close. My father in law died 2 years ago on January6th. @ the end of that month my Mother in law was rushed to the hospital for trouble breathing. They found a mass in her lung and gave her 6 months. She refused treatment of any kind. We spent as much time as possible with her while she was able to get around. Took her to visit family and to the casino her favorite place. She spent a lot of time with my son and in the end the last few weeks my sister in law and I were her caretakers. That time ment a lot to her and us and she passed peacefully at home with all of us surrounding here. That was what she wanted. She made it till May. Take the time to be there.....it will make a difference.

Sgrealtor1 - The last month for me on IP was rough. I really did have some serious diet fatigue and I felt like my body was protesting the weight loss. I was hungry all the time when I had been fine the 6 months prior. It was weird. I finally gave in to my hunger by increasing my protein. Believe it or not, that was the boost that I needed. My body needed more lean protein. One night we went out for dinner and I had a 12 oz piece of steak!!!! I got the bigger steak because hubby said he would eat some but I just kept going and it was so good! The next morning when I hopped on the scale, I thought for sure I'd see a gain but it was the biggest loss I had seen in a while. So for the next few days, I ate extra animal protein and it really did the trick.

I know that this is considered not 100% OP and when I told my coach she gave me that look, but it worked and I got over that always hungry phase.

DeterminedDieter 03-12-2015 01:06 PM

That's interesting 2bskinnyagain, I'm in my 6th month and I've found for the last couple of weeks that I have been really, really tired throughout the entire day and I've been hungry more too, where I had had zero hunger issues from day 1.

I am in my 7th week of C25K and I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it. I have added in an extra packet/couple of eggs on these days.

I had figured I would be at goal by now, but I know the exercise has slowed me down. I've still decided to enter phase 2 on Saturday, and plan to lose the last 3lbs either by the time I enter phase 4 or on my own.

JJTx 03-12-2015 03:06 PM

Good afternoon ladies! Several of you have asked me to share what I learned but I wanted to wait until my appointment today before saying anything.

As far as the rest of the phases go, my friend said they were pretty easy to work through - she said phase 3 was her favorite because of breakfast!! :D

But my big news is that I have a new coach and clinic! :carrot: I've shared a couple of the struggles I've been having lately with my old one, and more and more have realized that I needed to do what was best for me and move on. I've signed on with my friend's coach and she is amazing! Her background and experience is in health, fitness and nutrition (not sales and marketing, go figure...) After 5 minutes I already felt as if the "weight" was lifting off of my shoulders. We'll be doing some tweaks in the next few weeks as she learns my body, routine, and see what works best. (like I have to eat a restricted every day this week, I've never done that before!)

One change you'll see here is that I've done away with my ticker (for now). She doesn't want me to focus on a goal weight #, but rather to get in a healthy range first and see where we need to go. Oh and my homework is to start planning how to celebrate when I hit 199, cuz it's right around the corner!

My biggest take-away, and it goes with some of the convo that's been happening on the daily thread - all coaches are not created equal. And it's your life, so make things happen for the most success in your program.

DeterminedDieter 03-12-2015 03:16 PM

That sounds great JJTx it's like power cycling the diet, giving it a refreshed enthusiasm. I bet it will be great for you. The new coach sounds great too, they are not supposed to be just retail clerks and this one sounds like she really cares about the job and clients.
