  • Good morning!! I have woken up earlier than my alarm clock all week, but feeling full of energy and well rested, which amazes me considering how exhausted I feel at the end of the day with work being so busy.

Off topic, but I have been thinking of making my own dog food for a while since my two little dogs seem to be very sensitive, and I was planning on getting a grinder attachment for my kitchenaid mixer, and it is on sale so cheap right now with a $20 mail in rebate!! It doesn't take much to excite me.

Hope everyone has a great day!!!
  • Good Morning IP Peeps!

So I totally had a cheat day yesterday . . . and it was soooo good! Now back to the task at hand and that is losing these next 35 lbs!

Question, I've got group on FaceBook that I'm following and everyone there seems to think you can throw your body out of Ketosis with one meal/day of non-OP. If it takes a few days to get in Ketosis, shouldn't it take a few days to get out of Ketosis?
  • Good Morning everyone,

Hope you all had a nice day yesterday - celebrating or not! It was Day 4 for me and I did fine. Looking forward to Day 5 today and my Nashua order will be here!

Susie - I agree - it is the little things that make us happy! Glad you are feeling good.

Pinky - I don't know, but I think it doesn't take much to get kicked out of ketosis.

Lisa - thank you for the thread and the mini-challenge!

Wishing everyone a great, OP day!
  • Good Black Friday morning!

Stayed totally IP yesterday and feel great about that

Got up at 5:30 this AM and turned on my laptop and got all my Black Friday shopping done

Only one left to shop for is DH and my niece who has not given me her list yet....yeah! Will wrap as they come in and our tree will go up this weekend.
  • Pinky - you can throw your body out of ketosis with one meal, if your carb intake is high enough that your body stops burning fat for fuel instead of carbs. It takes a few days for you to get into ketosis because your body has to burn through its glycogen stores before it starts burning fat for fuel. But because carbs-for-fuel is the way your body normally functions, it will flip back into that mode as soon as you introduce enough carbs again. It doesn't have to use up a different fuel source before it starts burning carbs for fuel again.

Hope that everyone who braved the Black Friday crowds this morning had successful shopping trips! I ended up having to stay up late finishing a baking order for tonight, and had to work my regular hours today, so I'll be browsing the online deals instead
  • Best chicken broth to use on P1
Good morning all. Tried a few searches but could not find a clear answer. Figured one of you knows this for sure: What are the best IP appropriate pre-made chicken or vegetable broths to use on P1? I see various "fat-free" and "low sodium," but not really totally carb-free. Would be grateful for any suggestions -- gonna be a soup-makin' weekend! (After I brave the malls with my college daughter, that is )
  • I usually make my own broth (so I know EXACTLY what is going into it!) but if you need to use store-bought broth, the College Inn Fat Free Low Sodium is your best bet. It's not ZERO carb, but it's low enough that the trace carbs aren't an issue. I think it's 1g carb per serving. Homemade veggie soup is a staple for me in Phase 1 - I make a batch every Sunday for lunches at work during the week.
  • Thanks, scorbett -- you are fast! I think I should start doing that also this winter (making my own veggie soup each weekend). When stuck though, I'll look for College Inn. Are there any bouillon cubes that are any better?
  • Happy Friday

Little screw up yesterday but terribly bad. Going to drink lots of water today and totally staying OP.

I tended to find that the boullion cubes were way higher in sodium than the boxed broths - if you could find cubes that were low sodium they would probably have similar stats to the boxed broths.

Can you tell it's a slow day at work today??

It was explained to me like we have 2 'gas tanks'. We started out with just using our 'carb tank' and since we switched to ketosis, we let that 'gas tank' run out and use the back up one(Fat tank). Now when we eat a high carb meal we have refueled our 'carb tank' so our 'fat tank' doesnt have to be used anymore. Think like a hybrid car. You use the electric part for so long and then when thats run out, you would switch to gas, once the electricity is filled back up, you would use that instead of the gas.

    Hope that helps explain it
  • Heck, my coach told me one bite can knock you out of ketosis. It was explained to me that is why this diet only works if you are 100%. Of course, I wasn't sure it the was a scare tactic at the time.

Took a planned cheat day yesterday. After 5mo of being 100% is was a welcome break. But I didn't feel good last night at all. Glad to be back on Phase I this morning. This probably means I won't hit my 11wk challenge goal but am ready for the next 5wk one.

My company puts on a big parade tomorrow for our city. I am the Balloon Director of the huge helium balloons. A little concerned about my energy levels tomorrow as I seem to tire pretty easy these days. Is there something I should do to help?

If you're going to be on your feet for a long day, plan for an extra snack! A hard boiled egg is an easy pick-me-up, or give yourself room to have an extra unrestricted packet (shakes are probably easiest) if you feel your energy drop. Drink PLENTY of water too!
  • I was wondering about what to do for higher activity days. Makes sense to have an extra packet. I love to snowboard and while I know I'm not supposed to exercise much on IP I'll have to hit the slopes a few times this season. I'll just make sure there's an extra unrestricted pack in my truck for apres ski! I'd do the hard boiled egg thing but I feel like those wouldn't do too well in the truck on a cold day. Thanks scorbett!
