  • Yay! The website is back up for my favorite Bubbies knock-off pickle recipe. I maKe in a gallon jar once or twice a month. Since we're at the end of cucumber season, it's back to buying picking cukes at WF. Naturally fermented foods are so good for gut health!

  • Good morning all,
Just concluded 2 weeks on IP and am down 7.4 pounds. Pretty happy as I am getting older and know the weight comes off a little slower. Happy to see it go.

Wishing all of you a day of being strong, staying OP, and feeling happy that you're doing one of the best things possible for your overall health!

YAY! Going to get pickle-making supplies this weekend

Had a very difficult morning today. My son is 7 1/2 and we've seen signs that he may have ADD (or some similar challenge) just like his dad, who was diagnosed as a child and again as an adult. Today was the first parent-teacher conference of the year, and it's never easy to hear that all of the strategies and efforts you apply at home aren't enough anymore. We are starting the process of getting medical evaluation, school psychology/special ed evaluations, and all the other hoops we will have to jump through to make sure he's supported at school and that we're using good strategies at home too. In the grand scheme it will be a good thing, but it weighed heavily on me this morning and I definitely could have used a curl-up with a tub of ice cream! But I ate my Proti Diet oatmeal, put a little extra splash of Vanilla RTD in my coffee, and pushed on. I think my reward at the end of Phase 1 is going to be a whole day of RELAXING somewhere dark and quiet

That sounds very difficult but it sounds like you're getting everyone on the same page, and hopefully good support! Good job staying away from the ice cream!!
  • Good morning! I am new to the Forum and new to IP. Today is my first day and I am hopeful and optimistic about changing my life moving forward. Grateful for this forum, I have been checking in occasionally while researching IP.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Congratulations. I. Am also getting older and boy are you right the weight does come off a little harder or I am just less able to stay on track. I need help and accountability that's for sure. Hope today is a positive day for me and everyone here!
  • Good Morning! Loving these cooler mornings! Ready to wear my scarves and sweaters. Well not that I have any sweaters that fit any more....they are too big! that's not a bad thing!!

I wanted to thank you all for the prayers for my dad. He's doing great! He had a good report from the doctor, well good and bad, but more good. They removed all of the cancer and he doesn't have to have any treatments!! YAY!! However, it was a high grade cancer that is likely to come back so he has to get scoped every three months. We are blessed that they caught this one early. And with regular screenings they should catch any others should they pop up. God is good! All the time!!

Work has been a little weird, my direct supervisor was "let go" last week. It's just the two of us in this office so someone from corporate has been here with me and they are interviewing. I hope they get someone good in here, someone that I will mesh well with. I have to say, it has been nice with out her here. I didn't realize how manipulating and controlling she was. I actually enjoy my job now!!

Well I hope you all enjoy your day!!

Scorbett: I'm a special ed teacher so I help parents thru the maze of "stuff" all the time.
There are regular classroom teachers who have really mastered the art of working with children based on various needs and then there are others...
Hoping your son has one of those "star" teachers!

The ultimate relax for me is a beach. Barring that, spa or massage.
Massages are dark, quiet, and relaxing!

    Wednesday Sabotage:

I don’t have time for my dieting skills.
Response: It doesn’t take that much time to actually do everything. What does take time is how long I spend struggling beforehand over whether or not I’m going to do it. Once I make the decision to definitively do these things, the struggle will go away and the time I spend will be reduced significantly.

Thanks His teacher is amazing, she just doesn't have the resources to support him to the extent that he needs it on her own. Thus we begin the Special Ed/School Psychologist evaluations and then go from there

    Scorbett,
You are doing everything right and that takes a lot of strength. Like Lisa said, I hope you find the best teacher possible for your son.

I understand. I am actually having some similar issues with my 7.5 year old son as well. He makes great grades at school and has never had a behavior problem at school and does well at football too - I have never had a complaint about behavior from his coach. But at home, it is a TOTALLY different story - doesn't listen to me, has several annoying habits he does that bother everyone in our house including making noises with his mouth, interrupting all the time when anyone is in the middle of a conversation, etc, CANNOT sit still - always has to be moving his body in some way to the point it is annoying. It is so odd to me that he only does this at home but my husband (just got married in January - second marriage for both of us and both have kids from previous marriage) and my sister have commented about him possible having ADHD...I am just not sure what to do!

I hope you get your relaxing day SOON!!!!!!!

Hi SallyE: I have done work with children with acquired brain injury. I know that is not the same thing at all, but some of the strategies that work for them may also work in your son's case. Perhaps the structure throughout the day at school helps him focus and 'act appropriately.' At home things may be more casual, and with all this freedom and less structure he may start to show these issues? Just a thought. The families I worked with in conjunction with other professionals had written plans for the whole day at home so that the kids had more structure and knew what to expect at each point in the day. Sounds draconian, but actually eased their minds because nothing was a 'surprise.'
Hugs for anyone having to deal with behavioural issues, it's a toughie!

Glad for the good news for your dad, KellyC! The trick is in living right now and not projecting to the next 3 month checkup.
I have been wearing my light scarves with my long sleeved dressy T's the past couple days since it is that perfect blend of bright blue skies and crispy little bite in the air (at least in the mornings). I shall have to take the bright pink knitted Ugg type boots out of the shoe shelving and just go for it now as they aren't useful in the wet. I'm not sure why I bought them (except they are seriously cute) as there is a very narrow window of opportunity to wear them, must be dry and cool, so they aren't very practical.
