October Newbies-Achieving in August

Wonderful group of people working together to achieve their health goals-established in October 2013.

Slipfree 08-01-2014 04:46 PM

Hi everyone,

Better day for me today. Super humid here, so the kankles continue :( Having a very low carb day in hopes of moving down in my range.

Sold my leather recliner, always hated it! Bought it to sleep sitting up after my complex tonsil surgery, long story. So glad it is leaving tomorrow!!

Any one have great plans for the weekend?

KookySuki 08-01-2014 11:24 PM

Glad you're feeling better today! Congrats on selling the chair you didn't like! It's always such a relief to get rid of stuff you don't want in your home (and even better to get paid for it).

My plans are: packing, shopping for some new work outfits, and maybe taking some time to visit a few of my favorite places before I move. I just had acupuncture, so I'm really relaxed and drowsy. I think I'm going to watch some TV and then go to bed.

IdealProteinNewbie 08-02-2014 07:15 AM

Kooky: I'm so excited for your new job, move and fresh start. I think it'll be really good for you!

want2bskinnyagain 08-02-2014 10:41 AM

Slip: The puppy is good, time consuming. Lol. Thanks for asking. I am so proud of you for putting yourself and your needs first. That is always such a hard thing to do.

I have been feeling burnt out about the plan the last couple of days. Went off plan a couple of meals and had fruit. I know it is good for me and much better then a lot of things I could have had, but still went off plan. PMS has played a part in this I am sure. Why does it take me so long to figure out it is PMS and I just need to push thru? I will get this yet. Lol.
I have also decided to get thru my holidays in August with a more relaxed plan. Then go back to my strict plan in Sept until Oct 16th(my op anniversary). Then phase off and be happy with me. I want to be 140lbs but if I am not there I am not going to stress, I am already soooo much less then I ever thought I could be.

Slipfree 08-02-2014 11:12 AM

Want2b, how did your hair turn out? Were your friends surprised by your transformation? Summer is hard with all the social events, as hard as Christmas. Just keep on trying. We know how to address a slip. As for the weight goal, you will know when you are happy. I never thought I would be buying size 8 clothes.

I completely understand the pms issue. Now, mine seems to last two weeks! Not loving this change :( Was actually looking for a supplement to address the pms yesterday.

My low carb day yesterday worked, the scale is close to the bottom of my range. Had not had beef for a couple of weeks, switching up the menu seems to have done the trick.

It was a good call to postpone the tag sale because it is raining! Think I am going to investigate selling some of my clothes on eBay.

Thanks! The timing is really perfect and I feel good about pretty much every aspect of it. It will be really nice to have a fresh start. :)

KookySuki 08-02-2014 12:18 PM

Want2B- Puppies are so cute, but are so time consuming. I bet yours is so small she can probably sneak into places she's not supposed to go. The one I had when I was younger wasn't very small, but he'd grab something he wasn't supposed to have like books or shoes and sneak behind the sofa to chew on things. I hope she starts listening soon. :). Since you did P2 the whole time, you could just move on to P 3 for awhile. You'll probably continue to lose weight and then you might be able to just move into maintenance when you hit your goal because you'd be phased off already. Just an idea...the P3 breakfasts are really good because you have a really wide variety of choices.

I'm with both of you on PMS...ugh. It makes everything more difficult, but it tends to show up 10 days before TOM sometimes, so it's tough to tell what is going on. Every time I've had a cheat or problem, it's been PMS time. It is truly challenging to get through it every month without making bad food choices.

want2bskinnyagain 08-03-2014 10:54 AM

Slip: Have not seen my friends yet, that is Tuesday. And I think my hair looks great. At least I feel like it does and that is all that matters. Lol. If you find anything to help with PMS let me know, I hate how long it can last now.

Kooky: my puppy is very small, but cute. The only complaint about her is she likes to nip/bite at us when she gets excited or over tired. Not fun. So we tell her no and get her a toy she can chew on. You are right about me moving to p3 but I think I want to get to 140lbs and I think 10lbs is a bit much to lose in p3. I will only do p2 until Oct and then move to p3 no matter what. I can push thru with p2 until then. Thanks for the encouraging words.

Back on track again. That will be my key to success I think. At least I have that part down. Lol. Hope everyone has a great Sunday!

pishposhappelsauce 08-03-2014 12:18 PM

Just loving this group and how motivated you are to sticking it through together. And so close to your IP anniversaries! Keep up the good work, you're all an inspiration!

schenectady 08-03-2014 12:23 PM

Still struggling to take off the 8 or so pounds left from my going off beig time during my son's crises - no excuses now, lady. Trying to kick my butt into gear.

Added to that is Big C in the biggest way ever. STRESS....Friday was a tough day all around but the kicker was getting a letter from IRS that someone had appropriated my identity and filed for a tax refund in my name. The list of things to do to protect against anything further is monumental.

Good news was going up to the mountains to our homesite. The foundations, utilities are all in and Monday the framing crew comes. Yahoo. I am backing cookies and stuff for them and will keep a big bowl of hot soapy water for quick immersion of all spoons and beaters. No finger licking here!

Slipfree 08-03-2014 02:38 PM

Hi all,

Happy Sunday or in my world-cleaning the walk in closet day. The temps are so cool here that it is the perfect day to tackle this job.

Want2b and Schenectady- great getting back on track.

Schenectady, sorry about the big c and the identity theft! Stress is right, stay strong. Glad that the house site is coming along. You are super nice to back cookies, I couldn't do it.

Where are the rest of our peep? Check in: Steph, Hiker, Luccilove, Drl, Jig, Hawaii, and Kawaii. How was your weekend?

Pishposh, thanks feel free to join in.

Slipfree - this baking cookies will be a challenge for me, but it is one I am doing deliberately. I am trying to convince myself that I am so focused now that I CAN handle this, thinking it out in advance and making it my goal.

Slipfree 08-04-2014 07:40 PM

Schenectady, you are brave! How did you do with your challenge? I am cheering for you all the way.

schenectady 08-05-2014 09:15 AM

Cookie making is today so I will be veeerrrry careful. Knowing that you guys are out there will help so that I can report back that I met the challenge!

I am back in the saddle and have "only" four more pounds to take off from my recent 'detour' of several weeks. I know my mind is in the right place, though, so I am sure I can do this. I picture myself in my gorgeous evening dress at my son's wedding and PUT THAT MOUTHFUL OF COOKIE DOUGH IN THE GARBAGE!

canadjineh 08-05-2014 12:06 PM

Just want to say, I am enjoying your thread, guys, and identify with you even though I started in November and hit maintenance at the beginning of March. You all have such a positive vibe...keep it up! :goodvibes
I know you can 'ditch the :cookie: dough,' schenctady! Hang in there!

Liana

Slipfree 08-05-2014 02:27 PM

Liana, we do not discriminate according to the starting month, we are glad that you joined us. We just keep the Oct. name so we can find each other.

The last few days have been challenging. Had some bad news and the pms continues. Ate 3 bars last night! Went today to the health food store and bought a number of products designed to help with the symptoms. I will let all of you know if any work.

It has been pretty quiet here, sure hope that means that everyone is out having fun and not struggling.

I have been using Vitex by WomenSense (bottled & distributed by Preferred Nutrition in Ontario Canada) in the morning - 1 pill with breakfast every day. It has Vitex agnus-castus (Chasteberry) fruit extract but is not to be taken with black cohosh or evening primrose. You must use it at least 3 months regularly to see effects. I think it works for me - now I only get a 3 day cheese fiend, sore nipples, rage  instead of much longer, lol.
Let us know how it goes with your supplements....
I'm seriously looking forward to real menopause!

Liana

Hawaii69 08-05-2014 07:02 PM

Hey there;
Just checking in. Had a great long weekend of biking, hiking and kayaking. Beautiful weather! My poor legs are so sore. They aren't used to the mountain biking and walking down a mountain, crazy how you use different muscles. Hope to get rid of this water retention from the heat and travel and eating off plan. So, back OP today and drinking lots of water. I hate PMS Slip, I feel like I could eat and eat and never be full. I try and stay hydrated and have the IP friendly foods around to help. Have a great day everyone!

KookySuki 08-06-2014 12:13 AM

Schenectady- I hope the cookie challenge went well! I think your visualization of yourself at your son's wedding is a powerful motivator.

Liana- I like when you check in with us! We're by no means an exclusive group.

Slipfree- I'm sorry to hear your having a tough week with PMS and bad news. Sending you my positive thoughts and I hope you find a remedy that helps.

Hawaii- Your weekend sounds awesome! With all of that physical activity your body is probably hanging on to that water like crazy. I've heard to drink more water when you're bloated...sounds very counterintuitive, but maybe there's truth to it.

I can't believe I move on Friday morning. I've gotten a good amount of stuff done to prepare, but still need to work hard the next two days to be ready. I also need to go shopping and get some new work clothes for my new job I start next Monday. I'm spending two weeks in Dallas for training in the HQ, so I need to find cute, professional clothing to bring. I have a few things to bring, but definitely need some more mix and match pieces to bring.

Today was my last day at work. It was surreal. I've been so stressed out and dissatisfied with this job for a long time that I haven't been able to fully appreciate friends and nice people at work. It felt good today that people cared I was leaving and were really kind. The work environment has become so toxic there that sometimes everyone is in a bad mood and I forget about the good people I've gotten to know. I'm going out to lunch with a few work friends tomorrow and happy hour with a couple of friends tomorrow night. I know I'm doing the right thing with the new job and moving, but the sadness of goodbyes is starting to hit me. I just need to take it easy on myself and allow myself to feel the variety of emotions and not try to numb them with food. That is a challenge. I just need to take this day by day...lots going on.

schenectady 08-06-2014 10:02 AM

I did make three batches of cookies yesterday, including a hard-to-resist Reese's Cup, peanut butter and chocolate chip bar. My best weapons, other than visually the dress I have to get into, is a HUGE bowl of hot soapy water into which I very very quickly throw all the spoons, bowls, etc so that my feeble little mind cannot even entertain the thought of licking, or worse eating, any of the yummies.

Wrap when cool in multiple layers of foil and I am not tempted to sneak tastes from around the edges.

The Reese's bar cookies are going up to the framing crew working on our new house - keep those guys happy for straight and sound walls!

want2bskinnyagain 08-06-2014 10:34 AM

Slip: Sorry you got bad news and PMS is being a pain. Great job tackling the closet, sometimes that is a huge project.

Hawaii: sounds like a fun weekend with lots of exercise, good for you. Nothing like exercise and the outdoors to put a smile on our faces.

Kooky: Hope your move goes well. Try to take a few moments for yourself, maybe that will decrease the stress.

Schenectady: great job on not eating or licking anything. The workers will get way more pleasure out of them then you will anyway.

Got to my friends house yesterday. They were pretty surprised with how I looked. It was nice to see their reactions. Looking forward to a great friend visit and some pool time.

I sometimes think those reactions are things on which I can "feed" much better than real food! Congratulations!

KookySuki 08-06-2014 10:50 AM

Schenectady- Amazing NSV at being able to bake yummy treats for the contractors without a bite! You're going to be back to your pre-off plan weight (if you're not already) in no time and then you'll keep going towards goal. You're almost there!

Want2B- I bet you look great! It always feels good when people notice your transformation. Enjoy your pool time and break from puppy training!

Slipfree 08-06-2014 11:23 AM

Hi everyone,

Sounds like everyone is busy! Friend visits must be the theme because I saw two of my closest friends yesterday. One lives away during the summer, so it was really fun to catch up with all of her news.

Kooky- Wow, the move is Friday! I am so happy that your work friends are sending you off with celebration. Hope you have fun shopping for your new clothes. Such a wonderful adventure!!!

Want2b- I am glad that your friends were in awe of your transformation. Pool time sounds like fun.

Schenectady- way to go on the cookie challenge! For me, that would be tempting the beast, lol.

Today, my cousin, his wife and child are flying in for a visit. He is a television actor and has been filming in Chicago. Quick visit but it will be great to see them.

Hope that you all have a wonderful OP day.

Kawaii1002 08-07-2014 06:37 AM

Morning all! Hope everyone has a great OP day. I got my food in from Nashua. It came in in one day!! I was so shocked! So far everything has been good, and I'm still steadily losing. Went for a weigh in at my center, and found out I have 13 visits left, and in talking to my coach, he said that because I'm smooth sailing, I can come in once a month, and not "get disqualified" which was my concern. When you sign up with them, you sign a contract saying you will eat their food, and deviating from it is reason for "failing out" of the protocol. Just didn't want to waste money!

Things have been going ridiculously well for me, I'm not quite sure where it's all come from, but this year on my birthday nothing tragic happened!! The past three years before that, my cousin died the day before my birthday, my kitty died (on my birthday.. She was only 5, and it wasn't expected), and I was in a car accident. Today I go to court for said car accident, and I'm a bit nervous, but I have everything together in my head. I'm rambling on and on, sorry!!

It's so nice to read on how everyone is handling the maintenance aspects of life:

Kooky: best wishes at your new position, glad that you were able to see the good in the people that are in the same toxic stew you've been in.

Slip: cheers for a good visit with the family! Sorry to hear you've been struggling with the "cankles" and bloating.. That's never good!

Schenectady: Awesome, amazing high fives for your willpower and soapy water strategy re:cookies!! You did it!!!!

Slipfree 08-08-2014 11:43 AM

Hi everyone,

Off to buy a used cricut machine, need it to decorate bulletin boards. Later, dinner out for my "free" day.

Kawaii, super cute haircut.

Kooky, hope the move is going well!

Gorgeous weather here! Going to be a great weekend.

Hawaii69 08-08-2014 07:19 PM

Hello all:

Am having a good week. The scale is moving down which makes me happy. Its been a super busy week for me but working at staying away from that sugar and drinking my water. This week is one where I am not feeling very hungry so I go with it because I have those weeks of starving. I believe its hormones especially now that I'm in my mid 40's. I try and deal with the hungries as they come and in a good way! Maintenance is a work in progress that I'm determined to win! Have a great weekend everyone!

Slipfree 08-08-2014 09:52 PM

Hawaii, I am so with you! I am in my 40's too. Those hormones are a bugger, but my determination to win the fat war has not wavered. Really fun free dinner tonight, Phase 1 tomorrow. Tried to have dessert tonight. Really did not love it, so I did not eat it. Things they are a changing :)

Really glad that you had an easy week with the hungries. I really think the key is a good distribution of protein types. I really stay closer to my goal weight when I incorporate red meat (not my preference) into my weekly menu.

KookySuki 08-09-2014 06:24 PM

Kawaii- Happy Belated Birthday! I'm glad nothing bad happened...sorry the past three were so brutal. I hope you have many more happy birthdays! Congratulations on your continued losses and you look great!

Slipfree- I'm glad enjoyed your IP free day, even though it's tough to call it a "free day" because you had to go to work and start setting up for the school year. My mom is a retired teacher, do I remember when she'd have to start doing the back to school stuff. I usually got dragged along and was pretty useless most of the time. When does school start?

Hawaii- Keep fighting the good fight! Maintenance is tough because eating something that's permitted or on a free day can trigger hunger. I've been doing a lot of the meal replacement shakes, some P1 days, some free days. I've kind of been all over the place because I've been in the process of moving. I've been maintaining my weight though, so I'm happy.

I'm officially moved into my new place and love it. I had a pretty busy week seeing friends, packing, and clothes shopping for my new job. I got some cute work outfits, but would like to buy a few more pieces before I leave TOMORROW for my training for two weeks My move went well yesterday, but packing was exhausting. I only got 4 hours of sleep on Thursday night because I stayed up packing.

I woke up at 1:30 pm today! I haven't done that in a looong time. Fortunately my new town has stores that actually stay open late or just to normal hours. I just moved from a sleepy tourist town where most stores close at 6 or 7, other than grocery stores. I'm glad to rejoin the world where everything doesn't shut down at 6!

Slipfree 08-10-2014 12:15 PM

Hi All!

Kooky, I did not go to school, just went to buy the cricut machine. I do not go to school until prof. Dev. Days, but the flip side is I spend some pretty late nights setting up the classroom. This year they said that they were going to paint (we will see!!) so I had to take everything down. Making start up more labor intensive.

So happy that you are loving the new place! Did you find some more work clothes? Do you leave for a Texas today?

KookySuki 08-11-2014 09:16 AM

Hi! Glad you're not already going back in the building. : )

I found some cute outfits at Ann Taylor Loft, but need some black heels still. I start work in TX today. The coworkers who flew down with me are super nice. Staying OP could be a challenge. I'm going to follow the maintenance structure. Finding the lower fat/higher carb meal could be a challenge here, but when I'm faced with a lack of options, I'll just default to meat and veggies.

I'm excited to start my new job, but tired. Waking up early with the two hour time difference was rough!! Still tired and drinking coffee before we leave for the office.

How is everyone else doing?

Any suggestions for travel meals? I'm I have a fridge and microwave in my room, so that might help.

KookySuki 08-11-2014 09:17 AM

I'm trying to make my diet as discrete as possible and don't want to interfere with what others want.

Slipfree 08-11-2014 10:31 AM

Hey kooky,

Heard it is super hot in Dallas! Do your best food wise. Salad W/ meat is always a go to meal for me during the summer. If there is fruit in the salad, I eat around it. Some Yogurt for your fridge might help.

Hope you catch up on sleep soon. I feel your pain, getting up at 5:45 soon is going to be a shock to me. Haven't been falling asleep lately until 3:00 am.

Today, just focus on the positive parts of your wonderful life transformation. You saw what was not working in your life and you changed it. I am in awe of your courage!

KookySuki 08-11-2014 08:48 PM

Thanks Slipfree! After my first day at my new job, I can say that I'm happy with the decision to work for this company. I'll give myself a C for my food intake today. Lunch was a TX BBQ place and I had a grilled chicken salad...not the healthiest one that ever existed, but the best I could do. Dinner we went to a Tex Mex place and I had chicken fajitas and a half of a small skinny margarita. I think we're on our own for meals tomorrow, so I might be able to do a P1 day. There's a Whole Foods pretty close to our hotel. So I might go there to pick up some healthy stuff for my room. I'm very determined to do the best I can on this trip, but I know I won't be able to be perfect living out of a hotel for two weeks surrounded by unhealthy options.

I am really happy with the direction my life is going with work and where I'm going to be living when I get back. I feel fortunate for this opportunity.

Hope everyone had a nice Monday!

Slipfree 08-11-2014 09:22 PM

Hi everyone,

Kooky, glad you had a great 1st day! Yay :yay: for the positive life direction.

Missing the rest of the girls: Hiker and Schenectady have not heard from you lately, hope all is well.

want2bskinnyagain 08-12-2014 03:25 PM

Kooky: Glad you are enjoying the new job so far. I would stick with salads or steak and veggies.

Schenectady: You are right about positive comments being good for the soul, and they are also good for my motivation.

Kawaii: Glad things are going well for you, getting closer to goal!!! You are doing an amazing job, love your profile pic, you look amazing and so happy.

Slip: Did you find a cricut? I am a card maker and scrapbooker, those machines are awesome, I am sure you will get lots of use out of it.

My trip was great, lots of sun, pool time and shopping. My friend is a size 2 and looks great in anything. I was just excited to try on clothes in the same stores she was in. A year ago I would have just stood around while she tried
on clothes because nothing would have been close to fitting. I know I am
never going to be a size 2 but who cares, shopping in regular size stores is
very exciting.
Back op today. I was up 5lbs this morning but it will be gone soon I think. I did forget to have breakfast this morning. Oops. DD and I went for a jog, then I took the puppy for a walk, then hopped in the shower. My friends just started a running plan so I am going to try to start one too, she said when she started running last time she lost inches off her stomach. Hopefully I can get
out 3 times a week, and lose inches as well! Hoping to get into a routine before I go back to work in 3 weeks.

Slipfree 08-12-2014 03:48 PM

Want2b, you look awesome in the FB pictures! I think we judge ourselves too harshly. The trip looked fun.

I did buy the cricut machine. It does not include directions so I need to read them online. Have been too busy getting ready for the tag sale and cleaning my hoarder basement! Work is going to seem like vacation after this summer!

Good for you with starting to run! I would like to walk or run more but my foot is still giving me issues. Thinking about trying yoga when school starts. My incoming class is said to be challenging, so I may need some stress relief, lol!

want2bskinnyagain 08-13-2014 01:34 PM

Slip: Thanks for the compliments. When do you go back to work?

Official WI today, up 2.6lbs from before vacation. I am ok with that, back on track now. Have newphew's wedding in 2.5 weeks, after that I am going to be super strict with myself until Oct. Then going to phase off no matter what the number on the scale says. Getting excited about that!

What is everyone doing today?

Slipfree 08-13-2014 02:29 PM

Want2b- school starts on Aug. 25th. 2.6 pounds isn't bad at all. I gain that after one free meal. Darn water retention!

Just posted all the info for the tag sale online. I will be so happy when it is done!
Parting with my dresses and coats is kind of a double edged sword. I am glad that they are too big, but I loved them.
