Good morning. We have tomorrow off for the first time ever, so today is the last work day!

Did my weights at home, now off to swim. Hope everyone has a great day. Enjoy healthy eating!

calypso58 04-17-2014 07:07 AM

Happy Thursday everyone! After a 2.8 loss yesterday, I moved my goal from 145 to 128. 15 more pounds to go!

MellyIP 04-17-2014 07:24 AM

Calypso congratulations on meeting your goal and deciding to push it further!! I hope I feel the same way when I get to mine!

I had a little NSV this morning with my jeans. Since tomorrow is a holiday we can wear them to work today instead. I was worried because I hadn't put them on since washing them earlier this week - so I was afraid of the dryer tightness but.... No more dryer jeans!!!:carrot: aka they fit perfect as if I had worn them all week! I even texted my boyfriend to see if he had tried to trick me and let them air dry haha - he said "you're such a girl"

I hope everyone has a great day today! Can't wait to check back in @ lunch :cheer2:

Wow, you're doing great! I should probably move my goal lower but I really like seeing that I'm under it - little things make me happy. ;)

Great NSV! Just wait - soon you'll be washing those jeans in hot water and drying them on high heat hoping they shrink! (They don't much, by the way.)

3sisters 04-17-2014 07:46 AM

Good Morning!

MellyIP, we are very close in start date and starting weight....though I'm an inch shorter :) My goal weight is higher too, but I am 60 now - not that that is an excuse! - but I just didn't know what was reasonable for a goal weight. If....er, when.....I get to 145 I may reconsider and set it lower. How did you decide on your goal weight?

I'm wondering how many of you weigh at home? My first 'official' (weekly) weigh-in is not until Monday, but I have to say......I saw ONEDERLAND on my scale this morning!! Yay!! So motivating! I know it will slow down, but have to get this initial 'quick' weight off (the bloating from the carb binge that I had the day before I started IP) before I can really attack the fat stores. And I'm amazed that I can already feel the difference in my waist! After just 3 days?! Can't wait to officially see where I will be on Monday and change my ticker :) Have a great day everyone!

dcs0826 04-17-2014 07:51 AM

Happy Thursday IPers! Had my third weigh in yesterday and lost 5lbs which I was very excited about. Close to my first mini goal of getting to the 220s. Next mini goal is getting below 220, then onderland! Hope everyone has a great day

MarylandMom 04-17-2014 08:27 AM

Good Morning! Just got to work and am sitting at my desk with a full bottle of ice water trying to drown out the irritating naysayer voice in my head that says I'm going to fail at this diet too, just like all the other ones I've tried. I am on Day 25 and feeling great. Have lost 14.6 pounds. I am doing IP with alternatives so I do my own "official" weigh-in on Monday mornings. So far, I am down 14.6 pounds. However, I do cheat with some "unofficial" weigh-ins just to gauge how the week is going. Yesterday, I was up 1 pound, and this morning it was up another .5...so 1.5 pounds gained since Monday's weigh-in. WTH???

I know there are lots of variables that make weight fluctuate, but still frustrating nonetheless. Here's my question: Have any of you had this happen but then still had a decent loss several days later at your official weigh-in?

The mental component of this journey is so hard for me. I know that I need to just keep going and push the negative thoughts out of my head, but if I have to see a GAIN on the scale after just 4 weeks, I know I will cry!

dak1lls 04-17-2014 08:45 AM

Maryland Mom, let me just say that it is very common to go up and down throughout the week. It can be many different things....ahem, how to say this delicately?.....food still making its journey through the body? Water retention? That is why it is good to weigh weekly, so you don't see those daily fluctuations and stress yourself. Trust the plan....it really works. Don't let that little voice of doubt derail you and cause worry.

Dcs! Congrats on being so close to your first mini goal!

3sisters, it is so difficult to figure out a goal weight. Each of us are built so differently. I think you are picking a good goal and it is so easy to readjust as you near that, and see your new figure emerge. You will be amazed at how the fat melts away and as many others have said, you will find that you are much smaller at a heavier weight than ever before.

Calypso, you are so close to goal! Yay!

MellyIP, it is so funny how the little things mean so much. Throwing my pants in the dryer has been such a cool thing! I have ALWAYS hung everything yo dry, fearing my clothes would shrink and no longer fit. What a good feeling to toss them in the dryer.

Do you guys find that the inches are coming off in only one or two parts of your body (that are measured) or do you find it comes off pretty evenly? I swear, the inches on my hips just will not budge! It's like they are super glued on! I don't even care about a scale victory this week, I just want to see that hip number drop!

This was my warm laugh for the morning! Inches do NOT come off evenly for me. I am now a size 10 on the top and just squeeze into a 14 on the bottom. Now that I need to get new lingerie since I am falling out of the old things, I have to go to a padded underwire to have any shape on top.

So, you can guess that means I still have natural padding on the bottom. Yep! Curves to be more polite. Will never be a stick but I do know it is genetic. When my mother married at 19, she had a 21 inch waist and 40+ inch hips.

Nope..one week it would all come off one place, the next a different place. I felt like one of those lumpy cartoons.

dak1lls 04-17-2014 09:47 AM

I lost in my hips and thighs the fastest, but my arms and waist were slower. I am still self conscious about my upper arms. My SIL had the opposite happen, her hips and thighs took the longest to begin shrinking. It was at the very end of P1 that she started to go down more rapidly in sizes on her lower half. She is still larger on the bottom, than the top, but as you said that is all genetics. I used to always picture myself as that little old lady with skinny legs and a round belly some day. lol.

Melly, Great NSV! Ruth Ann stole my line, :) but in a couple of weeks that hot air dryer is going to be working overtime!

Marylandmom, take a deep breath. As one of the Oct. Newbies told me recently, this is not a race. You are well on your way and 14.6 pounds in 4 weeks is amazing. Week 4 is notorious for scale mischief. Your body is trying to catch up to the changes. I know it is hard to see the scale fluctuate, there were weeks of slowdowns for me. My coach said no weighing at home for a while, because stress can cause water retention. I just had to trust that the protocol works. Please consider that the scale reacts to many things, sodium, TOM, C, water retention.... No need for tears, the scale is just one measure of your journey.

I wish my hips and thighs were going faster! My waist is going fastest which is great, my bust is behind it but that is also ok because I have huge breasts, then my thighs. My hips are just hanging on which makes for a very odd dilemma, smaller pants are needed for almost all areas but I can't get them on my butt lol. I've always been an hour glass shaped person and I am hoping to retain that, but I'm headed for the pear lol

AmberLS 04-17-2014 11:16 AM

Lisa, I wanted to say thank you for your kind words last night. I only read them this morning as I was attempting a mommy time out. I sent the girls outside to play and I locked myself in my room. I only got about 10 minutes but it was better than nothing. I should have got 35 as I am supposed to be allowed one minute for every year of age lol.

You are right I tell parents all the time, almost daily that kids behave differently at home than at school and it's been true for a long time for me, my daughters teachers had never experienced anything remotely close to the behaviors I had expressed, and honestly she was doing better at home. But whatever "broke" in January is a mystery. Now everyone is experiencing the behaviors I experience. I guess yesterday was particularly hard because it was our first huge melt down in public, I mean we've had little ones but they've been much easier to circumvent. She's usually very sweet in public, she's very shy and reserved so she stays hidden by me. I've never quite experienced that kind of thing in public as none of my other kids had any behavior issues. I guess it's time to take a look at what we're doing at home and see if we need a change. I know wine is the easy way out, and I don't think without the phone call I would have debating going that route on my own, but it was strange timing, friend called right at the end it was terrible timing. LOL I am much better today. Kids relaxed pretty early so it was a quiet night.

CarbLover443 04-17-2014 11:37 AM

Well, I just weighed in and measured. Down 2lbs but, for the 4th week in a row, ZERO change in my hips in FOUR WEEKS!!! AGH!

Tisado 04-17-2014 12:17 PM

Where does the weight come off?

I no longer have a butt. I wear the same size bra although the girls hang differently. TMI
Plenty of flab in my middle section. Shirts are anywhere from XL to XXL but the new jeans are 10s.

blows my mind how differently everyone can carry weight. I'm wearing XL tops and size 10 but am 5 inches taller. I also lack a butt! In the 80 lbs I've lost, I went down one band size and one cup! That is all!

Hello Everyone, This is my first post in the daily chat. I just started IP yesterday. My coach is pretty new so she really didn't have the best answers to some of my questions. I have been reading through the posts on this sight and see that you all are a wealth of knowledge. Is it ok to use the Skinnygirl Monk Fruit extract as a sweetener?? It says it is 0 cal 0 fat 0 carbs. Also how many of the Omega III's should be taken each day?? It is exciting to see from the results that you all are having that this plan works extremely well!!

ems70508 04-17-2014 12:35 PM

Anyone take the IP Enzymes? Started today to see if it would help moderate my big C issue. I do the CALM regemine twice a day but thought a pill would be easier to manage.

I ate IP Maple Oatmeal ( a norm for me) this AM and took my enzyme after. I have felt terrible ALL morning. Not sure if it's something else or the enzyme....

LakeLover 04-17-2014 12:50 PM

Good day, all! I had my first big cheat - and it did NOT go well. I was making something (I'm not gonna tempt you with even the name!) and I ate some. Suffice it to say it was very sugary. Well, within a half hour, I felt nauseous, dizzy, and sick.

Suffice it to say I learned my lesson and am back on the straight and narrow today!

I hope you all have a wonderful IP day!

You should take 2 Omega 3's each day at dinner. I don't know about the monk fruit, but I would think it would be ok since WF is sweetened with monk fruit extract.

Good luck!!! I've learned so so much from the people here!! I just jumped in and started asking questions! There's also a ton of info in the sticky notes (first post of the page).

Hi NaeNae 2113
I use Monk Fruit sweetener (not Skinny Girl) - my counselor said it was okay because it is 0/0/0. I prefer it to Splenda.

ems7058 - have never taken the Enzymes but anytime I take a supplement it has to be on a full stomach or I feel sick.

Lol. My butt is gone, gone, gone. Now when I sit it hurts because my tailbone is sticking out. I read somewhere that women over 40 tend to lose muscle in their bottom half much more than younger women. So, I am hoping all my time on the treadmill will pay off and build some butt muscle. I NEVER thought I'd complain about losing my butt!

I don't know... I'm 50 and losing the hips, thicker upper thighs took a loooong time. I've always had a fairly small waist - no more than 31 inches even at my heaviest but ..."baby got back!!" I am pretty proud of my (still) nicely rounded, yet smaller tush. Wishing I hadn't lost so much off the girls though - they are a bit saggy and went from D to B+/C-. Using 'cutlets' to keep the tops rounded - I know - TMI! What I noticed is that my knees are too bony to comfortably stack when sleeping on my side - need a little bit of cushion to tuck between.

Nsv?

Today I am trying hard hard HARD to keep my eating "clean". I had a slip up with breakfast with my 2 yo (took a small bit of his bagel) and bit of a banana. I feel like I am starving when it is my body screaming for sugar or carbs- so I ate a whole head of lettuce ion 3 separate servings topped with EVOO, lemon and Perfect Pinch season and a grind of sea salt. I am now starting on head #2

OMG I am just driving myself crazy. BUT I am mowing through lettuce vs. jelly beans, cookies and stuff like that.

I don't take the enzymes. I add 1tsp of inulin fibre (like benefibre brand) to shakes and soups to keep from getting "backed up".

I know it sounds silly, but I have always wanted a round backside. I started out with a pretty flat butt anyway, but as I got heavier it certainly got wider! I joked with DH that I now understand why some women get butt implants or that Brazilian Butt Lift. Myself, as a 50 year old grandmother I suppose it would be inappropriate to do that. ha ha! My knees are the same when I lay on my side, and I know others have mentioned the same problem. I have seen those body pillows and figured those would be perfect for that.

Speaking of the "girls", mine are a lost cause. sniff, sniff. My SIL bought those "cutlets" as well. I was thinking of doing the same.

No matter, I would take all of these little issues any day compared to how I felt before losing the weight. :)

Mareeree 04-17-2014 03:13 PM

Oh my goodness, you guys are cracking me up!! I actually went to Victoria's Secret for new bras because my 22 yr old daughter told me I looked like a boy, because I looked so "flat". I spent a lot of money, but I feel so much better with my new bras - they really helped with the "girls" after losing so much weight. It was definitely worth it!!

lisa32989 04-17-2014 06:01 PM

Driving home from work today my head wanted to eat.

I can't call this hunger. I had drank an IP chocolate RTD less than 2 hours earlier.

But the craving was definitely there (:devil:have a bar! Have a bar!)

I had to tell the inner child, "No. you are not hungry. This is a craving. It will pass. Besides, hunger is NOT an emergency" (thanks Beck Diet Solution for the craving buster!)

I came home and made some decaf coffee. Living thru it like a champ. It IS possible to live without giving in to cravings!

I was at a training all day. The presenter brought LOTS of treats, both sweet and salty/crunchy. Lunch (provided) was fajitas. I had brought a bag of lettuce so I made lettuce wraps with a little meat and the veggies. This is perfect b/c we are unexpectedly going out to dinner tonite and where we're headed, the salads don't have 6-8 oz meat (more like 4) so I'm glad I had some earlier.

The treats don't call to me anymore. I honestly didn't want them. Mostly because I know how they make me feel (sugar & gluten both cause inflammation for me). I brought the chocolate drink b/c I figured there would be treats. It worked to combat it but then I think the inner child wanted a "reward" for having treats right under her nose all day & not imbibing. (Really interesting that I literally didn't want the treats...I wasn't avoiding, they just don't appeal now that I've learned how they truly make me feel).

She DOES get a treat. She gets to know that the adult kept her on plan and she'll be breaking that plateau soon! This is WAY more of a treat than any Easter goodies or salty (carby) snacks! Her treat is just going to be a little delayed gratification. Only children need instant gratification. Adults can wait.

3sisters, I came up with my goal weight by remembering what I weighed when I was happy - for some reason that number on the scale imprinted in my mind, I can still see it. I wasn't tiny, but I was happy and confident. However it's not set in stone, that was 4 years ago so my body may look different this time around.

I ate IP Maple Oatmeal ( a norm for me) this AM and took my enzyme after. I have felt terrible ALL morning. Not sure if it's something else or the enzyme....

I started taking the enzymes when I was getting GERD symptoms and I was working on getting off the PPIs (generic prilosec).

Now I don't need them daily. I use generic Calm (Vitacost brand) at nite before bed. I've read extensively about rampant Magnesium deficiency in our population (esp from people who have taken PPIs) so I feel comfortable using the Calm. It's probably less expensive than other options, as well.

So I had my first weigh in today and I have lost 11lbs. I also lost either 1/4 or 1/2 inch every where else. I am excited but can not want to actually start seeing the results. Plus a had a NSV with having to tighten my belt the other day.

I weigh myself every morning (and even write the weight down). My daily weight goes up and down. I have had up to 2 pound fluctuations day to day. However, if I compare any 7 day time period, there has always been a loss. I don't get upset anymore when I see the "gains"; I know it is predictable that a loss is going to follow. I use this forum for support and inspiration. Remember that the daily number on the scale isn't the only reflection of if you are staying OP. Our bodies don't always lose as predictably as we would like, but if we stay OP we WILL lose :carrot: Hang in there!!

I took the enzymes for 2 months, I didn't take as many a day as it says on IP food log. It seemed to help, I never felt sick and had no problems with C but now I am out and taking different supplements, I've just started having the C problem the last couple days.

I have had this same situation more than once and always ended with loss at the end of the week. My lowest loss in 8 weeks was 2.6lbs which was still good and that was the week I went up and down. I swear I gained and lost the same pound 4 times. It happens, weight fluctuates. Deep breath and remember it works!

I never took enzymes, but for a short bit I did have to take extra magnesium and lower my calcium dose to take care of the big C. Now that I'm on maintenance, I'm not having any problem even with my regular dose of cal mag - no extra magnesium needed. My coach & I found that my body worked better with the Alternative plan using 1 fruit, 1 dairy 1 starch a day while I was losing.

Oh how I'd love a fruit!!! LOL it's what I miss most, it's almost always what I'm eating in my cheat dreams. But I planned this precisely to be off when all the fruit is ripe in the summer and fall!!!
