  • Quote: My surgeon and anesthesiologist had no problems with me being in ketosis for either surgery and I healed just fine (except for the stitch the surgeon managed to get right on a nerve!).

I think discussing it with the surgeon and anesthesiologist is probably the best route to go and follow whatever they recommend.
Of course, chat it over with them and see what they say. Every case could be different - depending on how much anesthetic you're getting, etc. I do know that both times DH had surgery while on IP his doctors/care team were emphatic that he not be in ketosis at the time of surgery. As in they tested his ketones morning of because they knew he'd been on this type of plan. So that's where my caveat comes from. Just wanting to make sure that this is something that gets discussed in advance and doesn't crop up the morning of surgery, then prevent someone from having their operation.

And ouch for a stitch on a nerve! Eeps!

I really do think it depends on the doctors, the type of surgery, etc. My hernia (5 inches!) took nearly 4 hours to repair along with cleaning up some adhesions from a previous surgery. I think it helped that my primary care doctor has closely monitored me, including liver and kidney functions, from day one.

And yes, that stitch hurt! That was the second surgery -removing that stitch! Not nearly as involved as the 1st surgery but sooooo not fun!
  • Ugh! Why do I save so much to do for the last minute?

I have to declutter before company arrives b/c I blew it off last week when I was off work...I'm such a procrastinator!!!

I jumped in here today to share something I observed last nite.

I was with my alumni club watching my team win their first NCAA basketball tournament game this season.

I ordered a salad I had planned ahead to order. It arrived with WAYYYY less meat than I expected (I'll order double meat next time). That wasn't the issue. I dealt with that.

One of my fellow alums also ordered a different salad. She was sitting right next to me & she is thin as a rail. Thinner than I'll be when I decide I'm at goal. Anyway, I was DONE with my salad and she was gently picking at hers & it was about half gone. My bowl was EMPTY.

I sort've commented about inhaling my salad while she still had half left & she said she had a lot more meat on hers (her meat was also deep fried, so I'm not sure there was more actual meat, per se, or just more bulk).

That observation showed me I eat very differently than she does. She has been thin her whole life. I've always struggled with my weight (and eating anything I want/as much as I want). So, even "thinner" and losing, I still eat differently.

Just an observation. "Food" for thought.
  • Quote: Morning ladies, I have my WI today & I'm nervous. I was pretty ill last week & fell off the wagon. I should hit ketosis this weekend since I've been 100% OP since I've recovered.

I had the vanilla pudding mix for breakfast this morning with 10 oz of water & some ice blended with some WF strawberry sauce & man it was yummy!

That does sound yummy. I'm always looking for new ways to change up the packets. I have some of the banana pudding and this sounds like it might be good with the strawberry sauce. I haven't thinned the pudding yet. I make waffles or cakes with it, or just eat it as pudding.

Congrats to all the "losses" out there this week. Keep rocking it, ladies!

I'm traveling this weekend and will be working hard to stay 100% OP. It's going to be a tough go, trying to find the right foods, but I am determined to do it. My greatest battle seems to be getting the veggies in while having to eat out 3 meals a day. Taking my IP foods with me, of course.
  • Thanks ladies, I've been waiting to meet the little goal, now 20 more, then only 10 more and I'll be in ONDERLAND oh please oh please I can't wait!
  • Week 6 weigh in
I lost another 3.1 lbs! Soo excited! I was hoping to be at 20 lbs loss at two months, but it seems that it will be way sooner. My inch losses were fantastic as well. IP Rocks!
  • Well done kontesanera!!!

Lisa, I have noticed the same many times with my friends that are super thin and have always been super thin. When I say super thin, I think almost unhealthy thin. I have observed them play with their food, pretend to eat, or just rearrange the food on their plate so that it looks like they ate something. I have observed them eat 1 cheese cube and state how stuffed they are. But I also heard them talk about food so much, almost obsessively.

Anyhow, I have always been a hearty eater, even as a kid, but I never had weight issues until about 3-4 years ago. I have developed some unhealthy habits during that time and became a huge emotional binge eater. So embarrassing, but I am hoping that this diet will help me change my relationship with food.
  • Monosodium Glutamate / MSG - is it ok?
    Hi,
I am trying to change from IP soup to other soups for variety.
Was eyeing a Miso soup pre-packaged option. It had MSG in it.. so wasnt sure if that is allowed on IP..
    Any thoughts?

I'd stick with alternative products from the alt thread

Nashua nutrition is a great source & the soups are a LOT less expensive!
MSG is a big problem for a multitude of reasons.
  • Geeez what a day!!
Well it's either go home and eat everything in sight or go to the thrift store until I can unload this "gosh darn stuff" from work.

    Thrift store wins!!

By the time I get home, my honey will be there and I don't binge with company.

  • Quote: Ok I am down another 2.6 lbs!!! Today I am going to try on my size 14s and see if they are still to tight in the thighs for my liking
    Great job Sarah

Quote: Good afternoon everyone. My weigh in today and I'm down 1lb. During the week (daily weigher) i was down to 218!! But today it is 220!!! I have had some odd health problems this week resulting in swollen and sore hands. The doctor told me I had an allergic reaction to something, to take antihistamine. It is getting better slowly so I reckon the weight is fluid retention. Hoping for a larger loss next week. I wasn't taking my supplements properly/at all and this is week 3 so yesterday I went out and bought my vitamins and minerals. Lesson learned. Happy Friday everyone.
Twotots, I hope your feeling better and 1 lb lose is great for what sounds like a lot of stuff going on with your body.

Quote: YAYAYAYA I hit 20lbs today!!!!!!!!!
    Way to go Amber

I'm down 1.3lbs and the scale is sitting right at 200. Hoping to reach onederland next week. I have lost 82lbs with IP and am so grateful to have found this plan. I'm 105lbs down from my highest weight over a 1.5 yrs ago
  • I was down 4 lbs at my WI today. I'm now at 22.6 lbs lost& & 26" overall!!! That's in just over a month & a half. I needed that little motivational boost.

My coach gave me then novi-cleanse to do. How did everyone else react to it?

You should have seen the hissy fit I threw last January when I gave up soy. It cut out all my favs. Yanno what? I lived.
