Alright, I am officially back in the saddle. I began my IP journey last July and after 10 weeks I had lost 35 pounds. I then decided to jump ship without phasing off correctly. I have since gained back 14 pounds and I am ready to restart and hang in there until I hit my goal. My husband and I are ready to start a family but I want to have a healthy pregnancy so here goes!!

coffeebean 01-06-2014 09:58 AM

This diet is all or nothing. It does not work if you are not 100% on phase 1. It is an expensive diet if you cheat. We can do this. It is a gift given to us to help us lose weight. I have tried so many diets over the years and I could not lose weight. With my body I cannot have carbs.

Day 1 rebooting after 15 months off of P1 (I phased out correctly after hitting goal in Oct 2013). Maintenance went well until the holidays this year :) so I'm back to take off what I put on and I'm really excited about it! I think I missed Ketosis if that makes any sense, and I definitely won't miss the bloat that I've had the last couple months!!

schenectady 01-06-2014 10:12 AM

I am hanging in here today, feeling good about the program and getting to the gym 6 days a week. I have NEVER been a gym person before and I can think of a thousand reason not to go, but I know I always feel better afterwards and it makes this program easier.

This morning and last night have been tough and strange - a feeling like someone 'walking over my grave'! Throws me for a real loop and a bit disconcerting. This coupled with a real need to talk to my mom who unfortunately passed away two years ago has left me shivering. Called my baby sister who is so good at helping me re-establish my equilibrium, but she was on her way out the do to the dentist.

Maybe if I get busy painting and cleaning a room we are almost done remodeling I will send my mind in a different direction. Totally not hungry or interested in food. Strange.

Steppy1974 01-06-2014 10:19 AM

Schenectady, reaching out to those that you care about is a great way to get out of the slump you're in. Talking to others that often have the same feeling help also. It's great that you are enjoying the gym. I went to a zumba class yesterday and then was able to do some kayaking. It felt GREAT! If you are feeling down, try hitting the gym. Exercise is a great mood lifter everytime as is working on your remodling and staying busy. Sounds like you're doing great, keep it up.

Steppy1974 01-06-2014 10:24 AM

Over the weekend, I was actually able to where a pair of jeans that I have not been able to wear for YEARS! I felt like a brand new woman! Holidays were challenging for me but I made it. The toughest thing was people enjoying cocktails around me and I love to have a drink or two at social gatherings. Everyone was drinking around me and I just kept drinking on my water. Talk about tough, but I did it! I wish I had more time to hit the gym but 10 hour days, single mom, and school really eats up any time for the gym. I have managed to squeeze in some exercise while at work but only when no one is looking.

ReenHag 01-06-2014 10:25 AM

Back to school, back P1, and back in the swing of things. I have been checking in but not posting as frequently during the holidays. It was run, run, run, go, go, go at my house. Ugh! But it was nice to visit amd socialize. I still cannot believe that (even on a few weeks of maintenance) I did not want ice cream!

Joining hubby back on P1 to lose a few more pounds. DD is also joining the program with us. Here's to a healthier family in 2014!

Renee

Well back to the normal world. Katie's back to school, and im finally back to my normal days off. Honey did all the laundry (even put it away) for me yesterday. I get all day until I need to run carpool this afternoon to relax! It's about 32 degrees here with a wind chill of 24. Brrrrr! Lol

Happy Twelveth night!

lighthouse101 01-06-2014 10:31 AM

So glad that my schedule is getting back to normal this week. It is nice to have a little time off around the holidays, but my schedule is usually pretty regimented and I (strangely, maybe) enjoy that. It helps me stay focused overall with my eating habits and being 100% on P1. Looking forward to a great P1 week and a very healthy 2014!

Morning all and happy 2014. It's been an interesting 2 weeks. I was sick as a dog the Friday before Xmas, dr put me on antibiotics and prescription decongestants and I slept the 1st couple of days in the UK. So didn't eat all my meals but stayed on the program. Xmas day, for the first time since I started, I went off plan - champagne, chocolate, cake, stuffing, pretty much ate what I wanted. 26th - back on Phase 1. I did the same thing for New Year's Eve - on plan all day until dinner and party where I just ate and drank what I wanted, pack on Phase 1 NY day. Have my official weigh in Saturday but my scale says I'm down 4 lbs. It's given me a taste of what maintenance and cheat days will be like. I don't know how I'm going to cope, I fear I may be an all or nothing girl when in comes to staying on plan versus off.

The most fun I will say was buying new clothes in the sales! Size 6-8!! I don't think I ever wore a size 6.

Hope everyone is as optimistic about 2014 as I am.

That would be a warm UP here! Put a negative sign on your numbers and you get our wind chills here

SuzieV 01-06-2014 11:08 AM

I love, love, love my family, but I'm glad they are all back to work & school! Been on plan since Jan 2nd and ketosis is setting in. I've cleaned and organized the mud room/laundry room top to bottom. CRAZY some of the things we keep around. Hopefully this energy will last until I finish all the other rooms. It's a reboot for me to lose these last pesky pounds and kind of a reboot for my house to get rid of clutter.

Slipfree 01-06-2014 11:10 AM

Hi all,

Home today, still fighting this cold/flu. The weather is bizarre here in CT. Snowstorm on Friday, lowest temps in 30 years over the weekend and today it is 45 degrees with high wind and rain. No wonder I am sick.

Followed Lisa's cue and made chicken soup yesterday, but added curry and ginger. Hoping to break some of the congestion. Am not allowed to take decongestant because it affects my BP. I actually woke up feeling a bit better. :)

Steppy, congrats on wearing the old jeans again. Don't you wish you could bottle that feeling?

jendilly 01-06-2014 11:14 AM

How do you know when you truly are in ketosis? This is day 12 for me. I'm guessing I'm in it, since I haven't cheated at all. Just not sure.

Steppy1974 01-06-2014 11:23 AM

SlipFree........ hope you continue to feel better. Cold/flus are the worse!
It is really a great feeling!! My other jeans are so loose that when I put the old ones, my fiance said, "Wow! look at your butt in those jeans." I think I was walking around on cloud nine!

drd1961 01-06-2014 11:27 AM

So cold, but made it to work.

I think I could have written your post (except about the size 6 - not quite there yet ;) ) But I also went off program for the first time on Christmas Day and NYE. I too am afraid about going off plan - I saw traces of the old carb monster return and it scared me....

I have to find a fancy dress for an event at the end of this month and I am finding 6's fit. So odd for me. But fun.

YES! It was out of control eating NYE - spinach dip with Hawaiian sweet bread, cream cheese spread, chocolate, chardonnay, champagne, mini ravioli's, crab cakes, crackers oh my - triscuits, wheat thins, yummy! To be honest, I was so full I physically couldn't eat anymore, but boy did I want to!! Been religious about IP Phase 1 since but still, very scary! I know that phasing off will help, and I am eager to start - only about 3 lbs for me so hopefully will be starting that process by the end of January. But also terrified.

I love wearing a size 6, I love the way I look in my clothes but I always have this little nag in the back of my head saying - "yeah but can you keep it off???"

drd1961 01-06-2014 12:14 PM

I think we all have that nag in our heads. It is not just this diet, but any diet. I was on weight watchers 12 years ago and there were many, many lifetimers that came back at this time of year. The tendency to gain weight does not leave us once we are thin.

I had some out of control moments over the holidays too and resulting weight gain. It was a lesson for me - I am addicted to carbs/sugar, and even months of 100% IP protocol hasn't changed that. You're right, it is scary, but also good to be aware of. For me, I know now after this holiday experience that continuing to lose successfully and then keeping it off requires changes many eating behaviors forever, not just temporarily. When I started IP I found the protocol so strict, but told myself "It's only temporary." I'm feeling differently about that now! Lifetime lifestyle choices are necessary for me to keep that nag away.

mckaren4 01-06-2014 12:54 PM

Wow!
Congratulations to all you size 6 ers!
I'm impressed!!!!
Thanks for showing us the plan works!!!!

Starting today with a new resolve! I'm encouraged by all of your weight loss bars!

Our bodies require less when we are smaller...don't forget that!

Schnectedy..Great for you getting to your exercise place regularly so far this year! It gets easier... :congrat:and it is important for now only that you are doing it and making it part of your day. Trying to ramp up too much too soon can be a roadblock. Only after nearly a year have I decided it is time to relook at what I've been doing. Instead of 45/min a day 6days a week alternating cardio and circuit, for year 2014 I'm increasing cardio to 1 hr the three days that is all I do and adding 1/2 cardio hr on the days I was only doing the circuit. This means 3days an hr of cardio..the alternating 3 days total of 1hr 15 min doing cardio and then the circuit. The time increment is small enough on each day now that it should not impact my morning too much. I have learned this past 6 months not to think about all the other things I need to get started on...
Instead it gives me mental space :yoga:before the day begins to go over it all and evaluate what needs to get done and prioritize more accurately. Now finding it is really helping me get more done...and that start to my day also helps keep me on track with eating right...don't want to waste my earliest efforts of the day later in the day being tempted by something that should NOT be an everyday part of what I eat!!
(REGARDLESS of where the scale is!!)

That Picky Person inside me is really getting pushy:nono:! And I like her!

I'm betting you like the one who lives inside you too!!!

Good Morning IP'ers, it's a good day here in cold but not snowing Seattle. I have finally gotten clearance to restart my IP journey after 1 year 3 months off. I originally started June of 2012 and lost 70 lbs. Took a break in October of 2012 to reset my system. I found out I was pregnant in November and my little chubby guy was born August of this year. I have ordered all my blender replacement parts and have all my veggies and vitamins ready to start. I should get my stuff this week... Fingers crossed to get through those first 4 days.

Just got back from my first weigh in since phasing off. Its day 4 of P1 and I am only up 3.4 which will come off since I am staying 100%. I was so afraid I was doomed but after a chat and some posts from this wonderful website, I am back up to speed more committed than ever. I am looking forward to a wonderful 2014

sarita75 01-06-2014 03:08 PM

Good afternoon everyone. I have missed you all and have been thinking about everyone over the last few weeks. I am still in Maintenance and had my 1st cheat day on Saturday. It was good but the crappy food wasn't as tasty as I had remembered it. It's all good. Reset yesterday and am onwards and upwards.

Life has been totally nuts with trial last week. It was originally scheduled for 12/16 and 12/18, but got continued, effectively ruining my holiday, holiday travel plans and so on. I cried a lot about it and felt like going mad crazy on emotional eating but pretty much kept it together. My body definitely craves better things anymore.

How is everyone doing in here?

Aw, thanks! And re: chocolate - Ah, chocolate. I did have some on Saturday (and a lot of other things!) and it was delicious. That and pizza crusts are truly the things that remained delicious. But I was definitely craving some veggies!

Did anyone see the segment on losing weight on ABC news? It was about how hard it is to lose weight, but even harder to keep it off. They are doing a follow-up tomorrow but two rules they gave tonight are:

1. Don't cheat

2. Eat breakfast

I'll try to catch it tomorrow but if I miss it maybe someone else will see it.

jendilly 01-06-2014 07:24 PM

Posted this up above but no one has said anything. How do you know you are in ketosis?

Here I was progressing down consistently, but I think I've inched back up a little. I really don't want to be weighing myself all the time, but I do. I should probably hide the scale. I have been 100% on plan. So I should be losing, right? Not feeling so great about it. Probably just a bloated day or something.

Jendilly, the scale is going to fluctuate, even when you are 100% OP. Lots of reasons for the changes, sodium,TOM, etc. If you stick 100% to the protocol, you will be in ketosis. If the scale is making you crazy, skip it. Try to put the focus on what you are putting in your body. Hope this helps.

True enough. If you are a "daily weigher"...pay attention to what you are eating the day/days prior to a fluctuation. It can give some insight on certain foods, esp those higher in sodium (check the label info) ...IP foods ARE processed, and you may not think about too much about how your body responds unless you get a nudge. You can determine if it's wise to cut back on some things, or make sure you are not unwittingly choosing a full day's worth of the higher selections. Many are not at all low sodium...in fact some are crazy high and some of us "collect water" if we consume some of them.

Those are choices you CAN control. I've said before...don't take the program as a "one size fits all and IP is magic". Your body is not the same as anyone else's!
