Chipotle

  • Many of you have asked whether Chipotle (meat and veggies only, obviously) is an IP-friendly restaurant. I went yesterday and spoke with the manager. She gave me some very interesting information!

Veggies are safe -- just salt, pepper, adobo, oregano and some other seasonings (I don't remember which, just that they are IP safe!)

Beef is safe - same ingredients as above

Chicken is not safe. Surprisingly, they marinade the chicken with salt, pepper, adobo and honey!

I did not ask about the barbacoa or carnitas (sorry!), but I hope this is helpful for those who enjoy Chipotle!

    Good to know, thanks!
  • Interesting about the chicken! Thanks for sharing.

  • Shoot, I had the chicken on Saturday night! Thank you so much for sharing this!
  • Thanks for sharing!! Reminds us to ask before making assumptions that it will be ok!

Looks like the pork is OK too, depending on what kind of liquid it is braised in. I'd check with your location.

Might have to get some of that this weekend, although my 2 faves (guac and corn salsa) are still off limits.
  • May have spoken too soon. It seems they use LARD in the pork. Prob way too fatty for IP.

Best to stick with barbacoa or steak.
  • Sigh
I'm on day 4 of IP and had chicken with lettuce like 3 teaspoons of pepper sauce and green onions/peppers from chipotle. Ugh. I weighed myself tonight and I gained 2 lbs. I thought I was safe.
  • Julmango, I found this while looking at the link, Meinola provided. I would say there might be hope you got chicken without honey. I would check if your location has this type of grill mentioned.
"In Chipotle restaurants with a plancha grill we add a drizzle of honey to our Chicken marinade."
  • woot - woo! I'm very excited that there is a restaurant that is IP friendly! (and right down the street from my house...)

I question how all the veggies are safe. The onions/peppers are prepared in a big skillet - therefore the onions would carmelize and therefore not be IP compliant.

    Just a thought.

I love Chipotle, but haven't been there since I started IP.

Is this the time of day you had weighed initially? We can fluctuate 2 lbs per day easily. You certainly know that isn't 2 lbs if fat
  • Thanks for asking and sharing! The chicken would have been my choice but now I know better!
