Your coach may be trying to make it more livable longer-term for you.
My friend's coach allowed an occasional slice of bacon (once or twice/month) in lieu of oil.
Just know these would be coach's "house rules" and not protocol.
My suggestion would be to learn the plan really well, run the info through nutritional analysis so you know what you're doing and make educated decisions.
