Weight gain :(

  • I am 99.9% sure I know the reason for my weight gain but looking for other insight on the issue.

I spent the entire day in the sun this past Monday...that AM, I was 158.0. I got some sunburn, nothing life threatening but it was very red. Woke up the next day with a +3 weight gain!!!!!!!!! I know it is water retention...clearly not a 3 lb of fat gain since I have been 100% IP since 4/1, haven't cheated once.

It just really sucks to have the scale move in the wrong direction...even when I had no loss, the scale did not ever go up.

I have increased my fluids to 120+ oz. daily and I am still only back down to 159.5!!!!!! This just really sucks!

Has this happened to anyone else? How long will it take for this water retention to go away!?!?!?!
  • First off, great job so far!

    Second, don't weigh yourself everyday!

Third, your body is trying to heal itself by retaining water. Drink plenty and it will flush out!
  • I had the scale go up 2lbs myself. no cheats either. I decided to increase my water to a gallon.. trying to follow the "drink half your body weight rule".. WI this week was down 5.6.. so it will happen...Just keep the faith..
  • You should really focus on fat loss/muscle gain rather than the scale. Due to hormones, I see my real weight now for about 4-5 days/month. The rest of the time, I retain water. This is just the way it is. Inflammation leads to water retention, not fat gain.
  • good water intake...ibuprofen for swelling and pain...and LOTION! Dont use aloe vera gel b.c it dehydrates you further and sucks out moisture (hence why the skin feels tight when the aloe dries). It feels good and that's why it's so common for people to use but its not good for healing a burn. lotion lotion lotion. (I'm an emergency room nurse and our burn doctors will all tell you this)
  • You injured the largest organ of your body (your skin) so you are dealing with inflammation/injury, which causes water retention. DO NOT WEIGH DAILY if you can't emotionally disconnect from the scale. Being out in the heat may have also dehydrated you a bit, which will also cause some water retention. It will all flush away in time, but not overnight especially if your burn is still healing. Treat your burn, drink plenty of water, and RELAX!
