Default Still not in ketosis

I have been on the Ideal Protein diet for about a month now. I have lost 10lbs so far. I went for my weigh in a few days ago and found I did not lose any weight, burn any body fat, and am still not in ketosis. This is very frustrating for me since I have been sticking to this plan, with no cheating. I have watched the veggies I am eating as well and nothing is changing. I did ask my diet coach if this is normal so soon in the game and she said not really but it could be my body still adjusting. My questions are...is this common? Can the soy in this diet actually slow down a persons metabolism that has a thyroid issue? I am just trying to make sense of this and am wondering if this will work for me? Any suggestions?

I'd move your post over to the weekend thread of the Ideal Protein section of 3FC. Most of those posters don't venture out beyond that section so they will never read this here.

If you have thyroid issues, I'd do some reading. I cut out both soy and gluten. The conventional medicine docs don't know much about it but it is very common knowledge among naturopaths or those with advanced training in Functional or integrative medicine.

How do you KNOW you're not in Ketosis? If you're following the plan 100%, I'd guess whatever means being used to measure that is inaccurate.

Additionally, 10 lbs in a month is pretty doggone good.
The biometric measurements used in the clinics are known to be widely inaccurate.

Lastly, did your coach tell you they expect a slow week around week 4 or 5?

If you eat 50g of carbs or below, you are in ketosis. If you measure ketosis with ketostix, they are not accurate because ketones left in the blood may be diluted too much when you drink as much as IP recommends.

You have lost 10 lbs, which is great. Most of this was glycogen and associated water, but still a part of it was fat. The way fat/muscle is measured by your coach is not accurate. You would need a more scientific measurement to determine body fat percentage. But if you stick with dieting, you are sure to loose fat. Take measurements and pics, they will tell the story.

As to slow loss and potential thyroid problems, yes. Very low carb diets can actually enhance thyroid problems. If you were hypothyroid before the diet, you may want to adjust medication (if you take some, that is). Otherwise, there are some links on the recent post:
