Default IP Rookie Question - Why do some people lose weight faster on IP than others?

I have a habit of looking at people's weight status and noticed that some people lose weight much quickly than others. I understand that, in general, if a person has a lot of weight to lose, then s/he will lose it faster compared to someone who has 20lbs to lose for example. I also understand a person may already have more muscle mass than another person and, therefore, lose weight faster.

I started this program this past Saturday at 180lbs and my goal weight is 140lbs. I'm finishing up my 4th day and have lost 2 lbs. I look at other women's stats that have less to lose than me (ex., start weight at 150 with goal weight of 130ish) and noticed they had/have faster weight lose results than me.

I know everyone is different. I'm just wondering why I can't be so lucky as those who can drop 5+ pounds in the first week and 15 pounds in the first 3 weeks.

I think that overall, everyone will lose at a different pace. Some just lose fast whereas others "slow and steady". I had 25 that I wanted to lose. The first 2 weeks I lost 3.4 and 3.6 and following that I averaged at 2.4 each week. The first week or so, some see higher losses due to extra water weight. Try not to compare yourself to others, and try to remember whatever amount you lose, it's a loss and that's what really matters . You can do this!!!!!

I agree! Just follow the protocol and it will work for you!
There is no miracle secrets but IP works!
Good luck, you can do this!

This isn't exclusive to IP.
People lose at different rates on any weight loss plan. We all have different metabolisms.
If two people were weight training, one person would get stronger faster than the other. We're all different.
It's all good.

I think you are judging yourself too quickly, day 4 is just the beginning and already you have lost 2 pounds. You have 3 more days to your first week, you may lose more yet.
Don't compare yourself to others as no two people are the same nor are their daily circumstances the same with the exception of the IP plan. Comparing yourself to others could derail your success, celebrate your commitment to the plan and every step towards a healthier, slimmer you!

IP recommends staying off the scale between official weigh-ins so we don't drive ourselves crazy. Scale watching doesn't speed up the process but it can create stress which increases the hormone, cortisol, which can stall weight loss.

There are too many factors to list when it comes to how much an individual person loses. But a few examples:

- someone who has 40lbs to lose is going to drop weight more slowly than someone who has 80lbs to lose. The closer you are to your body's best weight, the slower any extra will come off.

- perimenopausal and postmenopausal women may lose a bit more slowly than others because of the hormonal differences.

- An individual's body chemistry is also going to affect the way they lose weight. Any number of hormonal imbalances can throw things off, a naturally slower metabolism will slow things down too.

The nut of it is, you can't possibly compare your losses to anyone else's because YOUR body isn't like anyone else's. What you need to look at is whether you are losing every week, and sticking to the plan. Your journey is going to be full of personal victories - so set mini milestones for yourself and celebrate every time you hit them!

All of the points Scorbett made plus I think it may have a lot to do with what you were used to eating before you started IP. If you were eating lots of fat and processed carbs and very few veggies you will see a quicker weight loss at first than someone who had been eating a healthier diet.

But what on earth is even the point of worrying about this, focusing on this - even thinking or dwelling on this? Serious question - why?

The "perk" of IP is the rapid weight loss IMO. I'm just tired of not being in shape and overweight. So when I see others' stats on how quick they've been losing weight on IP (even the ones whose starting weight was/is less than mine and still lose weight faster), I question what I'm doing wrong or if I'm not doing the program correctly. That's my point of worrying.

I agree! Day 4 is just the beginning. I don't want to get your hopes up, but for me, the scale dropped dramatically on day 6. I thought it was a mistake, but it wasn't. Just keep going, and whether fast or slow, just remember, down is down. Good luck!

Gosh, I completely missed that it had only been 4 days for you..

STOP WEIGHING YOURSELF DAILY!!!!

Weight loss is funny - it is NOT a steady, downward drop. There are a hundred and one factors that will affect what the scale tells you from one day to the next . What you want to watch is the TREND of your weight loss from WEEK to WEEK.

I weighed myself daily for a week just out of curiosity to see what things looked like. Know what it told me? I would be at my lowest weight on Friday morning, and by my weigh-in the following Wednesday I'd be back up a pound or so. Did I gain a pound of fat in those few days? Of course not! But that's just the way my body worked. And yet every Wednesday, the TREND on the scale was always in the right direction - or if I hit a week where I had no losses, I usually shrunk a few inches instead.

You haven't been on the program nearly long enough to be worried that it isn't working, just relax (stress causes you to retain water!) and let the program do its thing. If you are following the sheet it WILL work!

Comparing your losses to others is no way to determine if you are doing anything right or wrong. Here's how to determine: follow the sheet. Ask questions about the sheet. We all have biochemical individuality which means we'll all lose at different paces.

I could compare myself to someone the exact same weight, height, and age, starting the diet on the same day and we would STILL lose at a different pace.

There are people who started at the same time I did who have lost 100+ lbs already. If I spent my time fretting over them, I wouldn't be focused on my own health and wellness.

REALLY. Stay off the scale and relax. Learn from the people who have been doing this a while. From experience, they know what they are talking about. Stress increases cortisol, a stress hormone, which will stall weight loss. We just don't want that (I'm experiencing it from an injury right now...not fun but I'll live thru it).

Spending your time fretting over why sounds like "poor me". We are dealt the bodies and metabolisms we are dealt. Instead of stressing about that, be truly happy you found the IP plan. This has been the easiest diet for me to stick to ever. It isn't always simple. It takes forethought and planning. It takes making decisions about cheating or not cheating. But if you stick with it, results will be yours! Let go of timelines and just let it happen

And what has the worrying gotten you? What can it get you?

Nothing.

The question is almost like asking, why are some people taller than others, why does her hair grow faster than mine ... it's useless and basically speaking, there's no concrete, right or wrong answer to the question.

My point is essentially the same as Skewbie, Scorbett and others - stop worrying. Relax. Just follow the sheet and you'll be fine.

You are only 4 days into the plan!!!!

Think long term.

You absolutely CAN find success on the plan - just give it time and dont compare yourself to others.

Your weight will fluctuate daily too, so don't focus too much on your weight loss to date. Think more about the weekly results. I have been on IP for 4 weeks. I started at 198lbs and lost 4lbs in the first week, 3.8 in the second, 3 in the third, and 3.2 in the fourth. But, I will say this, EVERY weigh-in I've had, I walked in there not expecting to have lost as much because my daily weighing has my weight all over the place. Another thing to note, you may just now be getting into ketosis, so your weight loss may speed up throughout the rest of the week.
