  • Quote: I know our coach just says to make sure to take the bbq covered skin off. Which sounds bad enough......Guess they haven't read them. I will be doing that next time I am at the store. Will be interesting to see if they do that at my grocery stores. Assuming they probably do, but worth checking.
My local supermarket INJECTS the meat with broth that has starch in it. Nevermind the sugar and starch they put on the skin to make it crispy.

I just buy chickens when they go on sale and roast them in the oven once a week
  • Quote: Awe I felt bad for you when I read this! Poor Lisa the bearer of the bad news. Stupid food industry! At least you know if you are in a pinch you can still go to this as obviously you have been using them and are still doing well. I am sure you don't have to swear off them forever and especially for your vacation. You just might be doing sunday roast chickens (note that is plural) a bit more often now to get you through the busy weeks. I think a lot of coaches say these are ok. I know someone who has them on this diet. Same coach as me and they suggested it. So maybe they need to rethink this....
Welll seee here's the thing with my coach...ahem.
When I was discussing with him the fact that I'm taking a road trip, and I said, can I just have an extra packet if I can't get some affordable protein - I can't afford $10+ dinners per night per person, ya know? He said no, (which I think I could if I'm desperate!) but he is the one who suggested the chicken...which I've been buying and eating for years anyway. But he ALSO said that in a pinch... They get the all beef hot dogs from the Costco hot deli.
    Ahem!
I've been a diabetic for a lot of years and reading labels even longer than that. My COACH suggested I eat a 1/4 lb hot dog! 70% fat?

On the other hand, I never even considered the grocery would ruin a perfectly good chicken, so I never even looked at the label! I read every deli sliced everything, and one with no filler/sugar/additives added is close to impossible, but I've found a few.
  • Quote: My grocery stores inject with a sugar containing solution
I hardly ever eat these anymore after that was pointed out (and bought a home rotisserie, which doesn't help for road trips). Used to love them. It makes me CRAZY how the food industry puts sugar in seemingly EVERYTHING!
It depends on the store. Costco is the worst I find. Thier's are also soaked in a brine.
But our local Co-op store has really good ones with no extra ingredients unless you take a "honey"type. Only problemis that the sell out really quick.
  • Quote: I was joking about the ruining my life. But it is upsetting. I thought that was one thing I could count on for when I'm traveling.

Actually, thank you for the information.
I have to double check but I think the chicken from whole foods doesn't have sugar in it, I will check it out this weekend.
