W1 Day 3 feeling ugh

  • Hi All, I am on day 3 of week one. I starving and shaky. Im following the program exactly. IS this normal? IS my body starting to go into ketosis?
Im not about to cheat but I am hoping it gets better at some point
  • It sounds to me your body is using up it's last reserves of glycogen and has not yet gone into ketosis, but will soon. Once in ketosis you will not feel hungry and shaky.

DO have an extra pack or 2 per day the first week when you feel like this, as you shouldn't let shakiness continue...also if at all possible, take a day off or two and stay home and take it easy for a day or two, (stay in bed if you need to), and then you will be fine after that.

My own personal experience was that even though I felt progressively better as the 1st week went on, it's really in the second week that I started to feel really good - definitely higher energy and sense of "wellness". But even my day 5, 6, and 7 of week 1 I felt "weak" and "off".
  • Day 3 was hard for me as well, on day 7

i know i was in ketosis on day 3, but no help

i ate every hour, still ate what was allowed, but broke up the veggies into meals.

for me day 5 was so much easier

Don't forget your salt. Add a 1/4 tsp to a glass of water or just lick it off the palm of your hand and chase it with your water (no tequila!!). Your body needs to replace the electrolytes lost from drinking so much water. Also, if your hungry, try eating a few egg whites. You could always add another unrestricted packet. Totally acceptable in the first 2 weeks while your body adjusts. You'll be in ketosis in no time and feeling great! This diet works! You can do this!
  • Do you have to feel ill to go into ketosis?

Hi! I am also on W1 Day 3, following IP 100% and have been feeling fine. Does this mean I am not in ketosis yet? Is there any value to testing with Ketostix just to check? Thanks!
  • DW and I both started the same day. My bad day was day 3 and her bad day didn't come till day 5. As soon as it was over we were both fine. Make sure you get your salt and water in. Drink luke warm water instead of cold water to help with the hunger. Your body reacts different to the temp. change.

Don't waste your money on ketostixs. Everyone is different. Some people have a harder time getting into ketosis. If you are following your phase 1 sheet to the letter, you will be in ketosis and feeling good within 3-5 days of starting the diet. I had a headache on day three and then after that it was smooth sailing!! Good luck!!!
  • Eat extra packets as needed and/or a HB egg or 2 egg whites... that's what got me through the first week. Your body is adjusting BUT you shouldn't be starving and shaky.

Hang in there; in a few days you'll be feeling great!!!

Everyone is different- some people don't have many symptoms, others have them all. I was achy and tired and grouchy and slightly to moderately hungry for the first 3 or 4 days, but I wouldn't have gotten into week two if I didn't start feeling great within a few days.

Same for ketosis. Everyone is different. Don't worry about whether you've dipped into it or when you will. I wouldn't even bother getting any test strips (I never have, anyway). Just focus on following the protocol.
  • Hang in there, it will get better. Follow djs's advice above, drink your water, grit your teeth and hang in there. Some people have to get through this part before they start feeling better. I was a carb freak and the whole first week I felt like I got hit by a truck- but when I came out the other side, I felt better than I ever had.

The most important thing is do not cheat with carbs. If you have to have an extra packet to get through, or even two extra packets, then do it- just stay away from off-program foods, they will only prolong the agony.

Stay with it- I am down 37.6 pounds in 9 weeks- I can assure you that it is worth it.
  • HANG IN THERE! if you were on a low carb diet we would call this Induction Flu it could be caused by sugar withdrawal. drink your water, use your salt, and are you taking calcium and potassium?
Sunday was day two for me and i felt so crappy, I just took some Advil. some ppl wouldn't advise that, but hey, if its' gonna get me through it.. just do it! A little advil and a nap sure helped!

You ask if you have to feel crappy to go into ketosis....that's a good question. My own personal guess would be that yes, you do - you have to exhaust your carb stores in your body and that has GOT to feel crappy! If you are on day 3 and still not feeling bad, maybe you will soon? (sorry to not be comforting at all )

Anyway, that's totally just what I would guess, but I'm no expert by any means....however I am curious to know how you fare the rest of the week. In any case, have no doubts at all about your diet - if you are following 100% it will work, guaranteed, period.
