Exercie and IP

Hello Everyone,

I've been given conflicting information about exercise while on IP or an IP alternative. First a practicioner said not exercise in phase 1. Then I read Tran Tien's information and he said walking, swimming, etc.?

With the amount of weight I would like to lose, I believe that the minimum is that I need to weight lift but I do not want it to have negative effects on the program.

Thanks,
Dawn

Hi, Dawn - I walk 2 - 3 miles daily and no problem. I was also doing that before IP.

The dog also needs to lose weight!

I have heard some people say that they have an extra IP item or egg if they are exercising, but I have not.

My coach told me I could start working out about three weeks into IP. I starred walking and then lifting weights. I lift about 2 to 3x per week and walk everyday. It was about month into IP and I just felt this need to move. Also you need to add an extra protein right before or after working out, believe me you will feel it if you don't.

Thank you both for the responses. We have a nice walking track at the local youth center that you can access for $20 per year which would mean walking year round would be much easier. Since I am doing an IP alternative, because of finances and that many ingredients contain sunflower/safflower which I am very allergic too, I do not have a couch or clinician to work with.

 hi dana!!!!

i agree with dana....i waited about 5 weeks...then started adding in my c25k and bike riding. so far i have not seen any hindrance to my weight loss.

i've been playing tennis 3+ times a week from week 1(but i played that much prior to IP). I've had no lightheadedness but i will eat an extra 1-2 oz of protein typically before (if it is a morning workout) and afterwards in the evening. My coach has had no issue with what i am doing so far since i have had such good results the first 2 weeks.

Hi rainbosmiles- I was just googling about C25K and ideal protein. Recently I started running a mile on pretty much a daily basis. I just heard about the C25K program and started that at week 3 of the program a few days ago.. Anyway, I talked to the person who runs my clinic and she thinks the exercise is alright and If I feel like it, I can add an extra packet.. However, I have been finding it difficult to stay 100% OP since I started working out daily. I have been thinking about phasing off of IP because of it. I feel really good about the exercise.. and I don't want to give that up. Also noticed my weightloss stalled when I started running-- maybe that has sort of helped to influence my cheats here and there? When I say cheats, i mean- a little cheese in a salad, trace amounts of non OP dressing, a few nuts. One time I did break down and ate a piece of pizza. Not sure if I am just getting sick of IP or if it is that my body needs more stuffs to keep up with the work outs. Also, I am a vegetarian so that could be affecting me. Sorry for the novel.. lol just kind of frustrated (with the diet) and excited (about my new running abilities) at the same time. :-/

i most definitely add a 4th packet on exercise days. most of the times its a pina colada smoothie because i'm usually so hot when i get back home!! sometimes i will add a few almonds BEFORE i run, but not more than 5 or 6. i keep my almonds in the freezer as i only have a few each week. i read that you should have a little carbs before and some protein after. don't give up!!!!!!!!!!!!! start tracking what you are eating this coming week, and then document when you are hungry. find the pattern.

when you can find a pattern, you can then address it.

i have also heard that when you are hungry on IP that is, when your tummy is really rumbly, thats when you are losing, so wait for that whoosh and don't give in to the hunger pains. stay on track.

keep me posted!! :)

try to feed your body something every 3.5-4 hours. i stick at 3.5 hrs and that helps me.

i never eat a whole bar at one time. i always cut it in half. half in the am, and half later in the day etc.

and if i am up late at night, 4 hours after supper, i add another 1/2 packet of protein drink. always go to bed on protein so that you have something in your tummy to feed your body with through the night.

thats my advice anyway hahaha
keep me posted :)

hugs
susan
YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey I have one question...somewhat silly (again).

This morning, I cleaned our entire house in 3 hours. This includes scrubbing 3 bathrooms, washing floors (taking 1 hour), and dusting & vacuuming. Now of course I didn't sweat, but I was feeling warm. Should I add 2 egg whites to my diet today? I'm tempted to do that this afternoon.

I have been exercising pretty regularly for the last 3 weeks or so. Right now I am alternating weights and cardio, for about an hour each time. This last week I went on a couple bike rides that were about 18 miles each. There were hills, so of course I did get a little out of breath. I had an extra protein packet and I think I'm going to start eating some eggs because....well, they're cheap. My weigh in is tomorrow, so I'm very curious as to what it will be. I'm just finishing up my 8th week and haven't really stalled yet so I want to be ok with maybe not having any loss as it seems like a lot of people go through a stall once in awhile. I am really enjoying working out because I feel so much better on IP, but I get a bit obsessed of whether I am burning up my muscle or fat...I guess I'll have a better idea tomorrow.
