Discouraged

I have tried this diet several times.
I get so bored with it. I get tired of mushrooms, peppers, and cucumbers.
I am on week three and have only lost three to four pounds. First time I did it I lost nine in two weeks. Last night I was dark purple in ketosis , this morning all the way in the negative. I tested before bed , and I had nothing more to eat. I can't give up, but I feel this is not working for me. Anyone have any ideas? I do the chocolate drink twice a day and southwestern curls. I need some support.

Lizzy63 08-09-2012 08:29 PM

I am so sorry that you're discouraged! I am new at this, but there are a lot of others who will be sure to have good advice. Can you talk this over with your coach?

Pink1350 08-09-2012 08:39 PM

In the Same Situation

I feel the same way, but know that I have not given this diet a 100%. I did for probably the first three weeks and lost 15 pounds, but then the holidays happened and the diet went out the window. How do people seriously stay on track with the diet? I am a teacher and the children have snacks like crackers that I start to eat even though I know that I should not be eating them. I started to run on the treadmill, but know my coach says that I should not be exercising on the diet. Should I stop? Also, I make pancakes out of the cereal mix and make muffins with the pudding mix. Should I follow the diet like it says and stop making things out of the packets? I just want this diet to be over with since I have been struggling to be on it since December and just want to be over with it. Sorry that I am rambling, but I saw the post and started crying bc I want so bad to meet my goal weight like everyone else on the board, but have no support at all:(

rainbowsmiles 08-09-2012 08:41 PM

i think nothing is more frustrating than discouragement when you are trying your hardest and not seeing the results you desire!!

when i first started...i only liked a very very few of the foods listed on the IP sheet...and i mean very few!! i am overly picky!!

BUT...i decided to commit to 10 weeks....and i knew that if i was going to invest money, time, energy and HOPE in this mission, i knew i had to find a way to MAKE IT WORK FOR ME!

that is one of the most impressive things about IDEAL PROTEIN...is that EVERYONE....ANYONE...can make it work for them.

1. MINDSET: make up your mind if THIS IS REALLY the protocol or journey you want to take. this is not for the faint hearted nor the uninspired. this protocol takes guts, determination and a fierce resolve!!!

2. PREPARE: read read read READ these threads. honestly, i believe that there is no coach out there that can COLLECTIVELY give you ALL THE AMAZING ADVICE that comes from these golden threads!!! ask questions...we are all here to help...but PREPARE FIRST. READ FIRST. practically every question you might come up with has already been addressed!!

3. BE WILLING TO GET OUTSIDE YOUR COMFORT ZONE: you MUST be willing to try new foods with an open mind. THESE PRODUCTS and recipes that are used ARE NOT GOING TO BE LIKE THE FOOD YOU HAVE EATEN TO GET YOU WHERE YOU ARE!! But they can be the tool that you use to get you where you want to be. Try a new food each week!!! if you don't like it cooked one way, cook it another way. google a food...and type recipe after that foods name and there will be thousands of choices!!! thousands!!! it does take effort and it does take research!! but you are investing in YOU and you are worth it!

4. BELIEVE THAT YOU CAN...that is the most important lesson!! if you BELIEVE that you can...YOU WILL!!! you will FIND A WAY...to make it work.

hope that helps...and please don't give up!!!!!

khtsmi 08-09-2012 08:54 PM

Maybe we can help each other
I have tried many diets, and I have to do this. I get bored so easy. I am running out of ideas. This diet cost too much to loose so little. I don't think I have lost any this week. I don't know what I am doing different this time. Lost nine pounds in two weeks first attempt on this diet. I don't understand why one minute I am in ketosis , and the next I am not.

mishy226 08-09-2012 09:16 PM

Hi there....chin up my friend. I whole heartedly agree with rainbow smiles. The diet isn't easy at first but remember it takes something like 21 days to create habits...take it a day at a time...and see what works for you. Commit to YOU everyday. I will share my experience and maybe it might make you realize you aren't alone:)

First, I've been on this program for 6 weeks.....I first started with just the drink mixes then decided to throw in one of the bars....I found I had a problem making the drinks at work....my timing between meals was awful and I was always hungry. I decided to try the drink boxes.....my life changed very quickly. I now had something on hand right away whether I was on the train or in my office. I plan my day around when I want to eat....it is the only way I can manage my day now. I googled and searched on YouTube for recipes with the veggies I liked....I eat a lot of cauliflower....have you heard of cauliflower pizza or cauliflower breadsticks? They are sooooo good my co-workers love when I bring them in....I also eat lots of broccoli and turnips...yes turnips...never had a turnip before this program...they are wonderful when you roast them with a little olive oil and salt.
I come on this site almost every day....I never post..In fact this is my first post.....I read a lot...I look at the goal pictures and it gives me hope that if I stick to this I can do this...AND SO CAN YOU! you aren't alone....even if it's just these posts...there are so many people who share our struggle. Keep trying and reach out whenever you need toooo....you can see those ladies who post a lot.....they have all lost lots of weight....they like you and I need this site...it's what it's for friend:) hang in there!

I used to make these when I was on Atkins but I don't know any recipes that are Phase 1 legal. All the ones I know/ have seen have cheese in them.

Edit: I just found this recipe with no cheese: http://finallychelle.tumblr.com/post...ories-each-340

wuv2bloved 08-09-2012 09:25 PM

First thing those strips are CRAP! I have been on this for 66 weeks AND HAVE NEVER EVER tested myself to see of I was in Ketosis. Just follow the sheet TO the letter! It is IMPOSSIBLE not to lose anything weekly if you are following it 100%. If you are NOT losing you are not doing a few things....
1. NOT eating your veggies
2. NOT drinking all of your water
3. NOT getting all of your salt and oil
4. EXERCISING
5. Adding "extras" (maybe unless you have issues with these)
6. NOT eating 3 packets a day

IF you are doing ANY of those 6 things then you will NOT lose or will lose very little. The program was written to follow it exactly as the sheet says. However, I am NOT saying if you are using any of the recipes you won't lose because this is not true, this is thinking outside the box as Rainbow said. We all have to do what we have to do to make the program work for us. If you KNOW you are carb sensesitive then you might not wanna use all of the "extra's" but if you have no problems then by all means go for it.

Like Rainbow said and I have said it many many MANY times, if your mind set is NOT right this won't work for you. When I read your post I see excuses..."I get bored...I get tired" these are EXCUSES....eat different things MAKE it work. IF you want it bad enough you will experiment with the SAME packet of food and make something different. YOU are the ONLY one who can do this for YOU. We can encourage you until we are purple and spitting out polka dots BUT YOU have to find YOU, dig DEEP within yourself to find out WHY do you want to lose the weight? Do you just want to see a number on the scale? do you NEED to lose or do you WANT? there is a difference ya know? How do you feel? do you feel disgusted with your looks now or do you think you look ok? These are all questions you need to ask yourself. Please don't think I am being mean because I am not. I had to sit down just today with someone and this is EXACTLY what I told her. She thanked me and said I WILL NOT have excuses anymore, I WILL try new things, I WILL open my eyes ...I WILL TRY!....She hugged me and said thank you...so I am sorry if I offend anyone in any form that is NOT my intent.

No cheese...veggie shreds....I will make something with them only 1x a week...that day I typically will consume 1000 cals vs 900 cals...It does has some fat...my coach says...it's ok and I have seen a weight loss each week I have tried...plus....there is a breadstick recipe made without even the veggie shreds and it still rocked! :) you tube is my friend!

aliceinseattle 08-09-2012 09:56 PM

khtsmi and Pink1350 -- I feel you both! Am on day 6 on my first week and have been following the diet pretty strictly and I also haven't lost anything. I guess what's great about this forum is even if you're feeling discouraged, you'll always find someone who's like you and you realize you're not alone. In the meantime, there are also so many members who will gladly encourage you and tell you not to give up. Hang in there because I'm hanging in there with you! :)

I'm in my 3rd week and am just starting to get into some routine. Add radishes and turnips. I put dill pickles/dill picles relish on salads and in tuna and chicken salad (yes i am using the WF mayo) add chopped green chilis. I saute mushrooms at the first of the week and keep them in the fridge so I toss them on top of protein and on vegetables. Do the cauliflower rice thing with chicken, vegies, and soy sauce. Add 2-3 oz of lean burger/turkey seasoned with cumin to the chili packet. I just received the WF pasta sauce this week so i will try doing a portabello mushroom pizza w/o cheese this weekend. Throw 2 oz. of cooked chicken in the chick soup, real mushrooms in the mushroom soup. Add a real egg white to the omelet mix with real vegies. Maybe in a month or 2 i will try pureeing some of my vegies. As for the keto strips, I have registered a trace everytime i tried but i have lost weight and inches and I am drinking between 80-100 oz of water (ex. IP packets) daily. Hang in there!

Big Daddy 08-10-2012 07:30 AM

i am in the same boat in some ways. i lost 22.5 my first week. and has been down heel from there. i thought every week would be like the first wwek. my last WI i only lost.1.4. but hay i had to tell myself -1.4 is better then +1.4. so i am rocking on from there. mind over matter is the name of the game.

i set a goal for myself when i started this. being from Baton Rouge i am a huge LSU FANatic. and season football ticket holder. and guess who's job it is to feed 300 or so people when we tailgate. that would be this guy right here. so i said self i need 80 off before football season starts. well my dumass jumped that to 100 off by OCT 6. i am down 60 so 40 more to go. in closing i would say set goals and fight like **** to meet them and if something gets in the way. smash there like a boss.

1) mind over matter. find what matters to you and use that. it helps.
2) set goals small or large.
3) like Nike says just do it. you have to do this for you or it will not work.

i didn't think i had the resolve for this. but i have provin myself wrong time and time again so far. get it girl. handle up on this you got it in you weather you know it or not.

LOL, I haven't heard that saying before, funny! But it was a GREAT motivational speech WUV.

Thank you for everyone's advice. I just have to get this mind set to just finish it. School starts up again, so I will get back to my regular schedule and get through the diet like I did when I first started.

Amen! That's right sister! Stay true, stay pure, do not deviate. I get tempted every day and take a secret pleasure in denying myself... Feel victorious over urges to eat foods that will lead to my destruction. No to diabetes, cardiomyopathy, CHF, morbid obesity, lack of energy, HTN, etc...
It's not easy and I may fail but today I am the master of my domain! 17 lbs in 10 days! IP!

I'll throw out two things that I needed to get me stable on the program:

1. find a routine that works for you. I find the weekdays easy because I have a good routine in place. I prep the night before so my meals are planned out and I'm better able to think of ways to add vegetable or preparation variety. The weekends are a bigger challenge because I don't schedule, do things on the fly and without a plan.

2. One tip that has helped me is to remember this is only temporary. We are really restricted in terms of food options now and you may need to miss out on the special foods in a celebration or holiday now but it isn't always going to be restricted. And the faster you get it off now, the sooner you will be on your way to mainenance where you can have a fun day because by then you'll have learned ways to keep it off. And along the way you may find a lot more good things about this program than what you can see now.

Don't Give Up!

I've been on Ideal Protein for 4 weeks and have lost 20 lbs. During that time I had to go to 2 BBQs, 2birthday parties and out for a lovely meal with my hubby. Nothing is easy that's worth getting. Hang in there...be creative...Use a bunch of different spices. Make mushroom sauces, muffins, let you imagination soar. There are tons of different veggies to eat. Don't get locked in the same old same old...concentrate on making food NOT important in your life. I was 240lbs. Losing 20 pounds in just 4 weeks has inspired me...try to find your inspiration..it's worth it

I think for anyone trying to lose weight, it's all about getting in the right frame of mind. I have to remind myself that I didn't gain the weight overnight, so most likely, I won't lose it overnight either!

All I have to say is wow! You are all awesome! What motivation. And even though I have been 100 % and pretty motivated I feel like I really need to get my butt in GEAR!

Just thanks for being awesome...

I am 57, still teaching, have 9 grandkids, and finally...after eating myself up to 240 pounds, I got the right mindset. For me, it was the doctor saying simply "diabetes" "not diabetes. It was a no-brainer. I watched my scale go up. I watched it go up. Now...it is my responsibility to stay healthy and alive. Yes...it is about mindset. I have struggled with depression, anxiety, stress...you name it. Finally, I decided I'd better get myself out of this jam. I've lost 20 lbs in 4 weeks. I have a lot to go, but the point is I'M DOING IT! I have a lot of living to do. I hope that many of you don't have to go to the brink of disaster as I have. Save yourselves...climb on the scale..take one last look and say "this stops now." It's not easy...but don't wait until the doctor gives you bad news. It's NEVER EVER TOO LATE! Ideal Protein has saved my life. I'm not giving up without a fight.

Thanks for your posts! Very inspirational! I have been on for three weeks, lost 11 lbs. Never lost so fast before but seems like should be more for the sacrifice...

But it does feel good to be "off" sugar and carbs. I have started to lose the cravings for them.

It is so good to have this forum to hear how others are coping. I am going my sister's way with IP breakfast and then IP drinks since they take longer to consume. I started to try and fit the IP products, like the soups and hot meals, into my life but they don't fit. I think it's going to be okay...I'm looking at many months before I'm done.

when i first started...i only liked a very very few of the foods listed on the IP sheet...and i mean very few!! i am overly picky!!

Wow! This is something I want to refer to daily! I'm in P4 and it continually takes work. Thanks for your words of encouragement!!! :)
