Question CAMPING food Ideas!!!!!

Hey ALL!!

My family is going camping for 3 days and I would like to know what are the best IP packets to take as well as preparing other food?

Your tips and suggestions would be MUCH appreciated.

Ps. Is it okay to have hotdogs over the fire?

I am not sure what you have available for cooking, but we have "pie irons" that I often put turkey and peppers in and roast over the fire. (and/or add other veggies you like). We have also put eggs in them so I am sure the IP Ham N Cheese Omelette would work too.

I would keep it simple, cut veggies prior and bring along deli meat, like ham and turkey. If you have a grill to put over the fire you can then put steaks, chicken, hamburgers, ect. You could maybe do turkey hotdogs?

I don't think hotdogs are allowed on P1 - way to fatty, and maybe high carbs too. Even deli meats are usually too high in fat, and the ones I've looked at have sugar added.

Like Barb said, keep it simple...cut up veggies ahead of time. Pre-measure & pre-cook meats, pkg p/meal. Tin foil dinners are always good! Have a great time!

I have Oscar Meyer Turkey Dogs at home (for kids and hubby),
1 link
100 Cal
8 Fat
510 Sodium
2 Carb
5 Protein

So you would need several Hotdogs just to get enough protein for one meal.
Can you bring hardboiled eggs along and keep cold?

Maybe take along some IP mango ready made drinks, too.

If the kids or the others on your trip are roasting marshmellows, join in with a stick loaded with mushrooms! I love mushrooms cooked over a fire. Tastes just like the ones we would put on a grill, but this is a lot more fun!

Kabobs would make a great camp dinner too.

Or a foil wrapped dinner with hamburger, zuchinni, summer squash, mushrooms and some diced onion after the dinner is cooked.

Have a bar of sometime while the famly is roasting marshmallows.

Make an egg white omelette w/ sauted vegies when the family is making bacon and eggs.

IP has pancake mixes if pancakes are on your family's menu.

Premade drinks are always easy. Chocolate drink mix makes really good hot cocoa for breakfast too.

In general cooking over an open fire lends itself to IP friendly foods, meats/veg. The hardest part is getting enough water.

Sounds fun, I wish I were going.
