Julian bread

  • Can you really have Julian bread in phase one in place of packet?
  • I doubt it's allowed but.... I might buy that after I'm done, their things look yummy!
  • There have been threads on this before, and it is not Phase 1 appropriate, but is something for Phase 3 and beyond. ALWAYS talk with your coach though. If you need a bread fix you can turn any soup into flatbreads or savory waffles (these turn out goood)!

    You are right- not phrase one appropriate. I started using in phrase three and have julian bread toasted almost every day now as part of my breakfast along with peanut butter, greek yogurt, berries and morningstar sausage.

  • I am on the alternate phase 1 plan and use their bread most days, not all. The Zero bread is NASTY, tastes like cardboard. I threw out one loaf and have two frozen in my freezer that I will chuck of feed to the birds, if they'll eat it. The 3-4 net carb breads are good. The cinnamon raisin, sourdough and another I've tried but can not remember. In the Alt P1 plan I can have two slices of bread a day, this is much lower carb than anything I could find locally.

    So if we notice the birds are avoiding flying south this year we know whose fault it is!

    For others who are in phase 3 and 4; I have a cookbook I have had for awhile and have been looking at recipes I could use in maintenance as I was going through phase 1. It is called The Glycemic Load Diet Cookbook; the recipes are by Dana Carpender.

    I made some bread yesterday from one of her recipes; even got to dust off the old bread making machine. It uses a bit of ww flour,protein powder, ground flax and other stuff.

    It was to die for! She clearly states only a bit a day, one thick or two thin slices. I had my slice and knew right away that I had to let it cool down and freeze it so I wouldn't eat more.

    Hubby who works very hard physically and never has to watch what he eats came in from work as it was cooling. I told him it was "my" bread but he said it smelled so good he wanted to try it anyway. So he had a slice. A bit later he asked me what was in it, he said it had filled him right up and he was going to wait before he ate supper. That was the effect of the protein powder and flaxseed I think.

    I highly recommend this book, so many things in it that are good for maintaining. Plus it sure kept me entertained through phase 1.
