Spinach

Questions about the spinach....does the spinach in the bag count? My coach told me that does not count as a vegi, only if it's actually spinach, like in a can.

never ever heard that before. I would prefer the fresh over the can any day...

Spinach is spinach. Raw just takes up more volume than canned

How would fresh spinach in a bag not "count" as real spinach?!

Brandis 06-03-2012 09:02 PM

Both are real spinach. The fresh is better for you, because it's not heated and pressure cooked, then stored in a can that's likely leaching BPA into the food.

I wonder if packaged candy would be okay but not canned candy as the packaged doesn't count cause it's not real like the canned? LOL. Kidding!! Sounds like this coach doesn't know what she's talking about!! Candy is candy. Spinach is spinach eh?

omg I can't believe she would tell a person that. I have FRESH spinach from a bag or the plastic container every single day, sometimes twice a day for a salad. It counts for me as in helping to lose 74 pounds! I know others use it in their drinks to get their veggies in by throwing in a handful of FRESH spinach. She may want to do some rechecking.

That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever read on this forum! Who even uses canned spinach??? She could have at least said frozen!! Anything in a can is full of sodium. Fresh is best!

Where does your coach think the spinach in the can came from??? Sheesh....

Fresh will always be better for you, and far easier to measure and also tastes better. Your coach needs to read a book or even better visit a farm and realize where foods come from. You should ask how they get the egg whites from the carton into the shell....

Well I feel better! My 1st week I ate alot of fresh bagged spinach and asked if I could count it as part of my 4 cups of daily vegi's, but was told no. I am glad I know now that it counts towards it. :carrot: Thanks!

Yes it absolutely counts. I found it really hard to get my 4 cups a day in so i have 1 cup in my omelet every morning and often have spinach salad with my supper. So much easier than trying to choke down a head of cauliflower every day lol

Bwahahahaha!!!! My "city" grandson couldn't figure out how lettuce from my garden looked, "just like the store stuff"....must have your coach as his teacher. I better ask him if he knows where milk and eggs come from! LOL

while we are talking spinach...To use in an omelette do you saute the spinach? And in a smoothie do you put in a blender buy itself to puree or with the liquid? Thanks!
