  • Quote: Miracle rice?? Where do you buy that?

    Back on the IP wagon!
    LOL - Where else!?.... http://www.thelowcarbgrocery.com/cat...2_137_413.html

I found a LOT of useful products there!
  • I've been looking at the miracle noodles but haven't picked any up yet. I'm going to look for the miracle rice tomorrow.....I'm lucky to work 10 minutes away from the lowcarbgrocery and I'm heading there tomorrow (need more WF maple syrup).
  • I like the miracle rice pudding. For lunch I just ate a miracle noodle salad with WF peanut butter dressing. I added shredded fennel and bean sprouts for the veg part. I couldn't really detect the noodles but they are a bit of a rice noodle texture.
  • After proteinwell.ca closed I ordered from Nashua Nutrition, but really didn't like paying for the shipping and customs. But when I go to thelowcarbgrocery.ca I find the site really difficult to navigate, and I don't know the brands.

Would someone mind posting what they've ordered from the low carb grocery (or any other Canada friendly site) so I can make some good decisions when ordering? Thank you!

If you want to see what I've ordered there, look at my blog - link is in signature line below.
  • Okay, so I feel a little silly for asking this since no one else seems to have this problem, but here it goes.

I read here how to use xanthan gum in shakes and puddings for a better "mouth feel" and thought I would try it. I added 1/4 tsp to my RTD chocolate shake and since it didn't mix well I tried again, with a second shake, using my immersion blender and ended up with a gelatenous glob on both the immersion blender's blade and the bottom of my cup. Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong?
  • Nilouve, you've probably used too much. It takes very little xanthan gum to thicken liquid so try adding half as much next time. If it doesn't get thick enough then you can always add a little more until you get it right. I made gravy on the weekend and added a 1/4 tsp to 2 cups of liquid and it was thick enough that I had to add a little extra water.

Thank you Evepet! Your blog is a god send for me. My parents are going to try the ip program using alternatives. I'm doing the program 100% IP so had no idea which direction to send them to buy alternatives without ordering from the states and paying shipping etc. I spent hours going through the alternatives threads but found a lot is ordered from the states. Knowing what we can get here in Canada and where to get it is soo helpful. I do have a question though, is there alternative products for the omelet and any chip type products?

I haven't been able to find a packet omelette replacement that's available, other than a source from the US. Someone here asked once if they could use Eggbeaters egg replacement, and the answer was that it would be ok but to remember that you'd need at least 3 servings for each omelette to get the correct level of protein. http://www.eggbeaters.com/nutrition-...upc=7027200216 As to chips, if you look at thelowcarbgrocery site, check under 'Pro Energy Diet Products' - they have some chips that are a decent alternative. The net carb count is > than 8gm though, so they should be considered as a Restricted. Also note that they don't have enough protein (only 10gm/bag, whereas IP products generally have between 15-18g/packet)... if I was going to use them, I'd add a bit of extra protein to that meal or snack.

Thank you, evepet, based on your example with the gravy I did use about twice more than needed. Much appreciated!
  • Thanks again Evepet. Great information.
  • I have 4 pairs of Reitmans jeans and 3 dress pants that I would like to bless someone with, someone who really needs them. They are size 11 comfort fit so actually for a size 13. I am 5'5" and wear heals so some of them are quite long. They are all in great shape as I never put them in the dryer. If you are willing to pay the shipping you are welcome to them or pick them up. I live 20 minutes from Edmonton. Pm me for email address.

  • I like this idea of a clothing exchange
  • I am fortunate to be in a position where I still have all my size 7 and 9 clothes and don't have to replace them. I will, but I don't have to. Clothes can get very expensive.
