Length of time between meals...

Hi, My coach told me to eat every 4-5 hours and I just saw someone post they were told to eat every 3-4 hours. How many hours were you told to wait before your next meal/snack? TY!

I would do what you feel comfortable with, but my doctor who specializes in thyroid/fibromyalgia and the associated weight gain issues recommends 3-4 hours to keep your metabolism humming. He says to set a timer for every 3 hours and eat when it dings. :)

I also heard on here 3 hours and then I noticed that I do get hungry after a few hours so I try to make sure to munch on veggies if I haven't eaten in a while. Also, since I have an extremely long commute home so I have a boiled egg right when I get home so my tummy is happy while I cook dinner :)

Hope this helps :)

New Englander - Wow! 61 lbs in 4 months! I want to be YOU! ;) Seriously, though, doing this well - have you EVER strayed off plan? It's encouraging to think this is really achievable if I just stay on plan!

I think some coaches may tell you longer just because it seems like there isn't enough food to spread out over the day, lol. Thank goodness for water and veggies!

Those really are amazing stats!!

This is a great question because I can usually make it from breakfast to lunch, but lunch to dinner is HARD. What do you usually eat in the afternoon for your afternoon snack?

yoginitnr 03-18-2012 09:49 PM

I eat every 2.5 - 3 hours as I am starving!!
830 breakfast (shake)
11-1130 veggies
1230/1pm lunch (salad, 1-2oz protein, protein pack)
330/4pm (protein pack)
6-7pm dinner (6-7oz protein, veggies and salad)
9-930pm restricted lemon poppy seed with large mug tea... Ah best part of my day.
Losing 2.5 lbs at the lowest, generally 3+ per week

Good info! I think that I may try this as well...I just get too hungry between lunch and dinner. I was afraid to add the 4th protein pack, but I think that it would help a ton!

Thank you. I've never strayed off the plan...just plugging away and waiting to reach the end of the tunnel...Note to self: It's getting BRIGHTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOO HOO!!!

Thanks for all the feedback. Initially I was told 4-5...and I was told to have my nighttime snack 1 hour before bed so sometimes I would have it 5+ hours after my dinner...Recently I got into a route of eating every 4 hours and noticed my weight loss improved...(and this includes my nighttime snack). But I feel the change in my timing really made a difference. (And I do stay 100% all the time...my only oops was having two restricted in one day...and boy was it worth it) ;)

I just started yesterday and my dr told me to eat every 3-4 hours. I might go a bit over since i forgot my snack at home :(

threenorns 03-19-2012 02:51 PM

every three hours, it's "ding!" time.

Busymomx4 03-19-2012 03:03 PM

I don't understand how anyone can eat every 3-4 hours when its recommended that we eat all our food at one meal (protein, veggies, lettuce), that's what my coach told me anyways. She also said that it doesn't matter how long you go between meals (within reason) as protein stays a long time in your body.

I have a coffee at 6 but breakfast (shake) at 8:30
Lunch at noon (restricted, lettuce and veggies)
Snack at 3:30 (pudding)
Dinner at 7:00-7:30

I never eat after dinner and i'm ok with it cause i'm never hungry (sometimes i have to on the week-ends as everything is delayed and don't have a pm snack and find it really hard).

Hi there, I was referring to time between meals i.e. breakfast, lunch, dinner and PM snack. There is a set time between meals. "experts" say your body will go into starvation mode if you wait to long to eat therefore when you do eat it will store the food as opposed to burning it off...but that's a whole new topic...So, for this topic it's just a matter of how long do you go between MEALS!!! :)

I wanted to ask considering we all receive various information from our "coaches"...
