I am on phase one of IP and have lost 8lbs in 3 weeks but I'm still hungry!!
i've been using protein plus drinks and bars to replace IP bars and drinks , could that be making me hungry? what are you doing when you get hungry besides drinking water?

Some people eat dill pickles......a cup or two of hot tea (I use decaf Earl Grey with stevia & some vanilla RTD as 'whitener') .... some egg whites.... make a pure 'lettuce salad' and eat it between meals when you're feeling the need. I also find that having a nice cold glass of water with lots of ice and a strong dash of MIO somehow stunts my hunger. Hope these ideas help.

I've been using alternative products, but Protein Plus isn't one of them so I'm not familiar with it. Whenn chosing alternative products, watch out for aspartame. It seems to give some people cravings. And it's pretty unhealthy for other reasons too - just google it.

I have read that a couple of you really don't like the omelet's from Nashua. I found a post someone made here saying you could make an omelet similar to IP's Herb and Cheese using Egg Beaters, Mrs Dash and Land-o-Lakes powdered cheese. Can we have powdered cheese on phase 1? I couldn't find Land-o-Lakes powdered cheese online, does anyone know where I can find some?

Thanks, all of the info here is SO helpful. I just ordered from Nashua and saved a bunch of money. I couldn't have done it without all the feedback and sharing by everyone here. Thanks.

http://www.dairyseasoning.com/

you can also check for a store locator in your area...in my area Bi-Los sells it and they just recently put it on CLEARANCE it so might not be carrying it anymore. it is NOT a 0/0/0 item, but the calories are so low that should be ok for IP...so it is like about 5/0/0 so just a few calories

Hey, I have a question for you guys. I drink the EAS shakes and they don't really fill me up. I always feel like I need to eat some actual food after a shake. I end up eating something AND the shake :/
Anyone else? Any tips?

And please don't suggest the spinach shake thing, I know some of you do that but it makes me queasy just picturing it.

The spinach shake thing sounds awful - but it really does taste good. In fact you don't even taste the spinach. You really should at least try it.

I use the RTD shakes either for breakfast or for my before bed protein snack. I'm not particularly hungry at breakfast, so it is fine then. Ditto before bed. If I drink one at lunch time I always need a salad to go along with it. Lots of lettuce + your 2 cups of veggies.

I know I need to get more veggies in, I just hate almost all the types we're allowed to eat. That's the hardest thing on this diet for me.

Any other shakes make you guys feel full?

Keep in mind that for the program to work you need to follow the protocol and that means getting all of the required 4 cups of veggies a day in. Find which ones you do like and stick to them. Hide veggies in things (Spinach smoothie, cauliflower rice, etc...) It isn't just a shake diet.

cyndie 06-24-2012 09:56 AM

I didn't think it mattered when you ate the food in the protocol, but for me, it must. I was in an automobile accident Thursday morning. Between the accident, police, emergency room, taking my Mom to her Sister's house (she was in the wreck, too) I didn't get home or have one morsel of food until 5:00pm. :dizzy:

By then I was absolutely famished. I pretty much ate all three meals in about an hour and a half. Then went to bed. Friday morning I was up two pounds and it's taken until this morning to get back to where I was. Needless to say, I won't be doing that again. lol.:D

Ticiabean 06-24-2012 12:50 PM

This is my 6th day and Ive followed the program with the EAS shakes. For breakfast I mix my chocolate shake abd it feels like an extremely filling mocha!

I'll have cucumber slices sprayed with EVOO and sprinkled w/ Real Salt when I need something extra.

I heard that hot foods help you feel fuller and so I often use soups for lunch to which I add 2 cups of steamed veggies. This is my most typical lunch.

If still hungry, I'll have 2-3 ounces of protein in a salad. For example, I'll make a tuna salad with WF ranch mayo or WF honey dijon mayo and have that on top of a pile of lettuce with cukes and celery. Then I just have a few less ounces of protein at dinner.

Chloe222 06-24-2012 01:22 PM

Here is something so basic that I hesitated on posting it. But it's so tasty and maybe it would be helpful to some new folks:

I take a plain pancake packet, add water to make it very thin, pour into a frying pan on low heat to make a large crepe. Remove from pan, spread top w/ 1 tsp of coconut oil and sprinkle liberally with (my homemade) cinnamon-splenda mix. Roll up and enjoy!

This was so good that today I had it for breakfast and another for lunch. Ea pancake packet has only 90 cal, 6 carbs (Proti-Diet).

Note some people are sensitive to splenda and coaches advise moderation in using it - I think 5-6 packets total/day or less, and that includes WF usage (not sure but think ea serving of WF would count as 1 packet of splenda). If anyone has better info on that, please advise.

(I alternate EVOO and coconut oil on IP)

Yes cucumbers are my go to veggie!
I have some proti diet soups, but it's too hot for soup. Maybe I'll try one at work tomorrow where it's usually cold.

Sorry about your accident. I also was in a terrible accident in April. I ended up hardly eating at all that day but my weight was up for a few days. I think it was because of the total stress of the whole episode.
So glad you and your mom are OK.

Restricted bars - Alternatives???

If you want to use an alternative bar what is the most fat, carbs, sugars, etc that you should have to make it acceptable? I have been using Pure Protein bars, but only select bars.

Also just place an order with Nashua Nutrition for their Proti-Thin Vanilla Peanut bars, Proti-ThinChocolate soy puffs, and the Proti-Thin Peanut Crisp bars. They all seem pretty comparable to IP, but sometimes I can't get them offline so I would like to figure out what the acceptable amounts are.

Thanks, it was stressful, but we will be fine in a week or two. How are you doing from your accident, Pat? I hope no long term effects?

Cyndie,
Here's hoping you are both ok. Stress increases your bodies levels of Cortisol. Cortisol can hinder your weight loss. As can dehydration. I doubt you got all your water in on that busy day. I would tend to attribute your gain to those two things instead of the food you ingested. You did not ingest 2lbs of food that did not get digested or burned off.
Shawna

cyndie 06-25-2012 04:37 PM

I bought Jillian Michael's Triple Chocolate Whey Protein Shake mix. It's only 7 carbs, 100 calories, no fat and 15 grams of protein. I added a couple of T. WF Caramel SF syrup, eight ounces of water and a cup of ice. I blended it to make a frozen drink and OMG...this must be the most delicious drink ever! I kept going over the label to make sure it's OP 'cause it tastes too good to be legal.

Has anyone else used this? I know it would be better if it had 20 grams of protein instead of 15, but is this good enough for the program?

Shawna, you are right about the water. I was so determined not to have anything that was not OP, but I don't think I had half the water I usually did. Thanks for the explanation, that makes sense. I didn't know about the Cortisol, that's something new I can file away. :D

I felt the same way when I saw everyone talking about the spinach shake...I tried it only because spinach is a favorite of mine. Guess what...you don't even taste the spinach! Give it a try!

Just replace them with a brand at Walmart or somewhere similar. There is a pdf file here with the contents of the supplements so you can match it up pretty close.

CkM,

I see you are from the beautiful big sky country. I had friends that lived in Trout Creek and I used to visit there. It was so incredibly beautiful! You live in God's country. :)

I couldn't find them I saved them as a favorite and couldn't pull it up. Bummer!

Does anyone use the ProtiDiet Chocolate and Vanilla Shakes? Are they any good? This site has them as low as $7.80/box and there bars too. They don't have all the ProtiDiet products but still! That's a good price. (downfall is shipping!) realized that after I posted it.

Oh my. I had one of these today. Very good and four net carbs. Big bar too and filling.

I placed my second order with Julan Bakery and tried the zero card bread it was not very edible. The others I've had we're 2/4 carbs each and we're excellent. Anyone want a few loafs of zero bread!

I love Quest bars! They have lots of other flavors as well... so far all of them I've tried have been good. And like you said, it's a big bar, filling... I really like the chewiness of it.

I'm still taking a 'sabbatical' from protein bars for the time being, but when I decide to add them back in it will be one from the Quest line.

I get the ProtiDiet puddings. They have less calories and carbs than the same brand of shakes, and if I want youse them as a shake I just add more water. They are more versatile IMO, I use the puddings for smoothies, shakes, waffles, cakes, pudding, etc whereas the shakes are just plain old shakes.

I bought the puddings too and used them as shakes. I always make my shake in a 20 oz shaker.

Evepet - Where in Ontario are you from? I'm wondering where you found the Quest bars? Are they somewhat comparible to IP bars?

I ordered Quest bars on Amazon. But, when they came in, instead of the 5 carbs it said they have they actually have 24!! So, I am returning them. They do some kind of funny math with fiber and sugar alcohols, but are these allowed on IP protocol?

Wendywendy, I order the Quest bars from thelowcarbgrocery.com. Here's the link:
http://www.thelowcarbgrocery.com/cat...oducts_id=4280

There are several flavors available - they come in boxes of 12. Here are the 'stats' for the 'Lemon Cream Pie' bar...

Serving Size 1 Bar (60g)
Calories 170
Fat 6g
Saturated Fat 0
Cholesterol 5mg
Sodium 260mg
*Carbohydrates 25g
*Fibre 17g
*Polyols/Sugar Alcohols 6g
Sugars 2g
Protein 20g

Although this bar had 25g carbs, it also has 17g fibre coing from isomalto-oligosaccharide which is a 100% natural prebiotic fiber which comes from plant sources. The sugar alcohol used it erythritol, which is imo is one of the best - it's 0 on the glycemic index scale. So 'net carbs' in this bar are only 2g. I also like that it's additional sweetening comes from stevia. And I like the fact that this bar has a high fibre level - for the obvious reason of avoiding the big 'C'.

Ingredients: Protein Blend (Whey Protein Isolate, Milk Protein Isolate), Isomalto-Oligosaccharide*, Almonds, water, *erythritol, natural flavours, sea salt, lo han guo, stevia.

Why not use that zero carb bread for bread crumbs when you make meatballs, meatloaf, crab cakes, w/ truvia and cinnamon on top of baked mock apple pie (zucchini), etc.?

Chloe222 06-30-2012 05:50 PM

Evepet,
Do you count the Quest bar as a restricted or non restricted? How does it compare to Simply Bars and some of the others?

Hope you are doing well. Appreciate all that info above re the Quest bars. Looking for more. I found the Simply Bar not sweet enough, and I know that my sweet tooth is my downfall...but if I'm going to have a bar, I want it to taste great, otherwise, I'll just make a cinnamon splenda crepe for 6 carbs.

So you eat these Quest bars and still lose at the same rate? I was scared to death to eat one once I saw the 24 carbs. I have them boxed up but I haven't shipped them back yet. If they are OK, I'll just save myself the trouble.

It's hard to describe the Quest bar, because it has a different consistency to it. It's not 'fudgy' ... it's more chewy. I think it's the high fibre content. I remember being surprised when I opened the first one - it wasn't what I expected at all. But I like them, and find because of the chewiness they take a while to eat - which makes me feel more satisified. I was treating them as a unrestricted, but am wondering now that I rethink it if they should be a restricted due to the fat content? 6g Fat - does that make it restricted? I don't know which of The Simply Bar flavors you tried? Quest is quite different from The Simply Bar - it's sweeter so you might like it better.

This question of what each of us likes and dislikes food-wise is so personal and subjective - it's really hard to judge.

I was eating them fairly often one/day as my 'bar treat' from about from week 3 through to about week 10. So you can see my WI results in my signature line. I treated them as a unrestricted, due to the low net carb content. Although, looking at the overall nutritional info again I do think the fat content is a bit high to treat them as an unrestricted. I alternated them with The Simply Bar and Pure Protein bars. For me - much as I liked the Pure Protein bars - they were too much like a chocolate bar... just made me want another one. I really enjoy the Quest and The Simply Bar(s) but usually feel satisifed with just one.

I stopped having bars on a consistent basis about three weeks ago - and you'll notice that I've been consistently at the -2 lbs loss level since. My weight loss increased a bit when I stopped eating any protein bar on a regular basis. I'm interested in seeing whether I can keep that up going forward. I'm 61 and have found it much harder to lose weight in the last few years. Sometimes, if I find a protein bar that's a suitable match for our IP criteria in a local store, I'll buy one. But otherwise I'm not stocking them at present. As I said above in my reply to Chloe222, I'm hesitant to recommend food products because we all have such different tastes and like/dislikes. But when I decide to buy a box of bars again, it will most likely be one of the Quest flavors.
