IP Alternatives Help

Hi all,

I really love IP, but does anyone have any suggestions (other than the ones listed below) for alternatives that can be used? I am afraid the cost is becoming a little more than my budget can handle and I don't want to quit :( So here are some that I have found already:

1. EAS AdvantEdge Carb Control ready mixed drinks
2. Muscle Milk Light (the 100 calorie pre mixed drinks)
3. Sugar free/fat free puddings (these make awesome milkshakes when mixed with water)

Any other ideas? Thanks so much to anyone and everyone!!

I like the Pure Protein bars. $4 per bar is ridiculous in my opinion. You can get a case of Pure Protein at Sam's Club that brings the cost down to just over $1 per bar if I remember correctly. They are 200 calories instead of the 160 range that IP is, so I try not to have one every day.

I haven't tried the pudding mixed with water. Do you only use it as a shake or have you tried to make pudding cakes with it, or actually eat it as pudding? Thanks for the idea!

I have bought some bars that are almost exactly like the cookies and cream ones we can get through the program (Supreme Protein, Cookies 'n Cream, 9 - 1.6 oz Bars)

I only tried the pudding as a shake because I wasn't sure if it would mix right. I also make sugar free jello too (but not as a shake) since a whole box I believe is 40 calories and I very rarely can finish off the whole thing in one setting (I usually eat half one night and half the next). There is also no carbs in jello so this makes a good late night snack :)

Don't forget to watch for aspartame in your jello if that is of concern to you.

Thank you all for the responses! I have found all sorts of stuff and thought I would share this for anyone interested. I have been buying the Blueberry/Cranberry/Pomegranite drink because of the collagen and it really does help with my skin elasticity. Well, for $13 I found powdered collagen that you can mix with any drink mix you choose!! And there is 30 servings to one canister so that is saving monies big time!!

I buy the vanilla shake RTD, from Dr Bernstein clinic. 6 for 12.99. I bought 7 cases, cost me 84.00, shipping was 26.00. so If I paid IP prices would have cost me 210.00..... A big savings. I am in Canada, so hard to get some things. The lifestyle drink is almost the same too but way to expensive. Dr Bernstein took 3 days delivery to my door.

I checked the nutrional values,

cal: IP 110 : dr b 100
pro 15 15
fat 4 4
sugar 1 1
sodium 240 230
fiber 2 1
carbs 3 3

Something like this helps the pocket book alot. Most of the time I find many people want to do IP, but the cost long term is just to hard with the economy the way it is. And heck, I want to save money to buy new clothes lol

I tried the pure protien shakes from cosco, not to bad, but a lot to drink. I bought the case of 18 I think it was, and was happy to be at the end. I wont buy them again. I also use whey isolate protien SIX STARS, vanilla and I think its really good. Taste like Ice cream, its on sale often for 29$. There are many brands of six star, some are for bulking up and higher calories, I dont take those for sure lol....The one i get is 140 cals but 30 gr of protien, 1 gr sugar 0 fat and 4 carb. I use half a scoop unless I am coming from the gym, then I use a full scoop because training and working I need a little bit more to stay on my game lol
Its called Six star pro nutrition whey isolate elite series, the french vanilla, yum yum. I did try shoppers drug mark life brand, was at a different branch didnt have the one I usually use, and god it was so bad, mixed ok but taste like chaulk. I am still trying to use it up lol

Can someone please tell me if the Dr. B oatmeal is restricted? Here is the nutritional information.

There is a clinic two blocks away from where I live.

locks 09-09-2011 10:26 PM

You can either order it online and it is a small jar called Collagen Powder (http://www.google.com/products/catal...d=0CHsQ8wIwAQ#)

Or I went to the Vitamin Shoppe and got mine from there. Saves a ton of money and it has no taste. I usually drink mine with a bottle water that I have mixed with Crystal Light Orange Sunrise Drink Mix :)

Hello. Can someone please tell me if this shake would be ok for me to order. I am trying to find alternatives and don't want to order the wrong thing. Here is the nutritional information.

Hey Nads, I am no expert but I bought some cookies and creme shakes today and they had 1g of sugar so I wondered if that was good or not too. That is the only thing I can see on the product you posted is that it has 1.5g sugars but I know I only plan to drink my shakes on days that I workout (like today was the first one and it tasted like a cookies and creme milkshake). I wonder what everyone else thinks about that sugar amount???

~Michelle

Nads 09-10-2011 04:13 PM

Thanks for the reply Michelletroy. I was also wondering about the sugar amount. I don't want it to stop my weight loss.

Ok I just looked at my IP products (like the puddings, drink mixes, etc.) and they all have over 1g of sugar so I think we should be just fine with that small amount :)

locks 09-10-2011 05:31 PM

I think you would be ok with that one. It has some fat in it though. I found one sweetened with surclose, And it tastes great. There are so many kinds, its hard to pick.

I have a couple questions related to my switch to alternatives:

What are sugar alcohols and are they bad?

What's wrong with aspartame and will use of it slow my losses?

sandralosingweight 09-13-2011 08:53 AM

Hello everyone,

I discovered a great alternative which is very affordable, I bought it from Walmart for about $22, it has 600g and a serving is 32g, so we get about 19 serving out of one box. It is called Weider 90% Protein and one serving gives 120 calories, 25g of protein, 1g of fat, 2g of carb.

I started using this product making pudding out of it, I bought one vanilla, and another raspberry, it does not taste too bad.

wheekers 09-13-2011 12:46 PM

I use all alternative products and have done very well.

Here's what I found on aspartame:
When the taste of an artificial sweetener such as aspartame stimulates the tongue, the brain programs the liver to prepare for the arrival of new energy (sugar) from outside.
The liver, in turn, stops the manufacture of starch and protein from reserves in the body, and instead begins to store the glucose (energy) that is circulating in the blood stream.
Foods having a sweet taste without the accompanying calories (sugar-free usually = low calories) stimulate the taste buds, creating an urge to eat and thus overeat.
It is the liver that produces the signals and the urge to eat. The cephalic phase response triggers the release of insulin, which stores sugar in the blood stream.

You're welcome :)

Just to let you know, they might have the same product at Costco, 2 for $33! I've seen this online, but I still have to check on this one once I go to Costco.
