Chicken broth?

  • I have been fighting a cold and I think it's starting to win -- my throat is on fire. Does anyone know how to deal with chicken broth? I was thinking I'd really like some to sip on today.

Is it completely off limits? How would I count it?

I was told to only use a little. I was suppose to look for one that was low in carbs (under 2 per cup) and one of the lower calorie low sodium varieties.

Then, SIP it. Make it last as long as possible. I was also told I could make up an IP chicken soup and thin it out with the chicken broth so I was getting more protein per cup if the broth was all I was able to tolerate.

You might also try the raspberry jelly in a warm liquid state as a drink. I found it really helped soothe my throat.
  • I have the mushroom soup mix -- maybe I'll mix a bit of chicken broth in it and sip.

    Stupid summer cold...
  • Have someone swing by your health food store and see if they have this. http://www.traditionalmedicinals.com/throatcoat

The Slippery Elm in it is a bit strange feeling but WONDERFUL on a raw throat.
  • The Throat Coat is an excellent tea. I'm lucky because my regular grocery carries it. It will help your throat tremendously. Also a Dr once told me to gargle with salt water, and I did find it to be very soothing. Since we have to take in our sea salt, if you can stand it, mix some up with some warm water, let it dissolve, gargle then swallow it. Then you get your minerals at the same time. But I can completely understand if that grosses you out. I hope you feel better very soon PS: I use organic chicken stock about every 3rd day with my IP soup, and it has not affected my weight loss - yet
