I was on maintenance for 3 months and then decided I wanted to lose 15 more pounds...after 4-5 pounds....I decided to try to love the new me instead of compare and despise....like I tend to.

Congratulations Darbs. You have come so far. So glad you will be around with your reasonable, sane approach to life & food. Looking forward to sharing maintenance ideas & tips with you.

It was hard to do Phase 1 on Monday after 4 days of not following the rules. I hope I can always be disciplined in the future. It is work to stay conscientious everyday.

By the way, I asked my coach to find out what the maximum suggested carb grams at lunch is, and the maximum suggested fat grams for dinner are. She said she emailed the company and got an unhelpful answer. I'm still waiting for details. I will post what I find out.

It's great to see this thread thriving. Thanks Lynn for staring it!

ETA: Wednesday morning weigh-in...135.2 (less than 1 lb over all time low). This program really is amazing!

Wow...I just read your edit! Good job following phase I. It really is exciting to see this protocol work so well.

I will be very interested to hear what your coach finds out about carb and fat counts at dinner & lunch. I've been wondering how much fat is too much at dinner.

How are you feeling? Has your injury resolved? We were all just posting yesterday about life getting in the way sometimes. Sending good thoughts your way.

I started reserching the Phase 3 breakfasts and realized that the number of fat grams in the "big breakfast" that they recommend (with bacon and eggs) is over the 10gms they recommend for the whole day. Did anyone else notice this??

Hi all!! Just checking in!! Looks like you're all doing well!!
Hey Pxlkitty...congrats on reaching Phase 2!!:carrot: You have done an awesome job!!! I just read your last post.....I thought we could have up to 15 grams of fat total at breakfast, no? That's what I've been doing anyway.;)

So maintenance is agreeing with both Hubby and myself!! LOVING the yummy satisfying breakfasts, and LOVING a little pasta at Dinner!!:D This has been such an incredible journey for me. Never, did I EVER think I would be 165 pounds again (last time was 20 years ago)!! Sometimes I do a "double take" in the mirror because I do not recognize myself!! LOL!!

I'm still trying to figure out what is so different about doing IP as opposed to other programs I've tried these past few years. On WW's I lasted about 1 month. I am NOT a counting points kind of person....too much work!! Loved Jenny Craig, but was never able to learn to eat correctly (their foods were so convenient) during the "phasing off" part (and I couldn't get down lower than 190 lbs)???
IP has been straight forward and easy to follow from the beginning, and along the way I have even learned to eat/like more veggies!! I have learned that "I CAN have my cake and eat it too" ..just not everyday like I was doing!! I have learned that MOST days I have to keep an eye on what I'm eating....and watch the carbs, so that one evening (usually Saturdays, I can enjoy something I've been longing for without the guilt)!! I am trying not to "overthink" everything. I don't measure...I eyeball....because that's reality, right ?? (this is MY reality anyway). I usually go up 2-5 lbs by Tuesday, and then it's off by Wednesday or Thursday ( I do Phase 1 for 1 or 2 days then back to maintenance).
This has been just a great plan!! LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!! Best wishes!! Take care all you fabulous maintainers!!!!

Darbs I am so happy for you, sounds like you are at your ideal spot. I am thinking that this might be the case with me too, as I am in phase 2 and am starting the add 5 lbs one week and (hopefully) lose 6 the next like I was in phase 1. It is hard to just say yep I am finished as I have my mindset at my goal and I don't want to stop until I get there. I am grateful for all of your advice and am glad you made it to the maintainers once more.

I haven't done a challenge yet, so I guess we will figure it out. I downloaded the blackberry app and am logging my food, but I don't know that it will be required... I guess we'll all find out together!

I'm feeling super grounded putting in my daily intake and also very interested in the recommended calorie intake they give you for height, weight and age, plus the breakdown of food they show on the chart. I also had no idea how many calories you burn while you're resting and sleeping! It really adds up. So for me, I'll be loggin in my food intake, even though we're all doing this as part of IP maintenance.
I'm SOooo grateful to be a part of this challenge.
Since I gained almost 9 lbs back, I've included some weight loss in my challenge as well.
Just doing the logging since yesterday has already helped me loads.
Thanks everyone :)

I had googled phase 3 and found a PDF that was obviously very old. I checked the "phases" thread and it says 15gms per day. Thanks!! I feel much better about the breakfasts I was considering...

Cap- Really...what did I eat today? OK:)
Breakfast - Original House of Pancakes with Dad & Hubby- Scrambled egg whites with tomatoes, spinach and a little feta cheese.
Lunch - IP White Choco Cinnamon bar.
Snack - Piece of Apple-Rhubarb pie Hubby & I made last night:o (delicious!) (counts as a veggie!?)
Dinner - Chili Dog with whole wheat bun, 97% FF Hebrew National Hotdog, veggie chili & FF shredded cheese.
Not perfectly IP phase 4 but not bad.

Pxlkitty - Yay!!! Congratulations on getting to goal and :welcome3: to maintenance. Job well done! I hope you will check in here and help motivate us. Maybe you can come up with a maintenance challenge and spreadsheet. Anyone have any ideas? Perhaps we could tie it in with the holidays.

Thanks for chiming in Woolberger. Yeah..it's unbelievable it's coming on to a year that we started IP!As I get to the one year start mark I really want to be at my original goal weight. I think the anniversary time will always be a good one for me to check in and make the adjustments I need to make to reset myself if I need to. BTW...I need to!
I appreciate all of your posts so much. I also admire you for taking such good care of your Dad. It warms my heart. I took care of Pops until he was almost 95 and I would trade all the free time I have right now for just one more day with that sweet old guy. There are immeasurable gifts for the spirit and the heart when we take care of our old folks the way they took care of us. Bless your Heart and cherish every moment, the good and the challenging as well :)

Hi all...

Thanks for your kind thoughts. Dad made it without incident to Illinois. Everyone involved was great. I'm off to Branson, Missouri for a conference. Any suggestions for shows or restaurants?

Lynn

Hi everyone! Sorry I have been MIA. There's been a lot going going on lately and I just have no time. But I wanted to pop in and report.

I have been maintaining my weight between 149 and 154. I will admit that I have not put a lot of effort most days into it. I have days where I eat what I want and can't seem to get enough, and other days, I don't eat enough because I am not hungry.

Here's where I am lacking...
I have not been tracking my food everyday like I planned. I need to track because I don't want to mindlessly eat anymore. I don't drink enough water. I have found myself dehydrated on a couple of occasions. I haven' been exercising like I had wanted.

I do think I make better food choices most days than I would have before. I still eat salads most days for lunch. I still study nutrition labels. I just need to track it. I have only been on maintenance for a month and a half, for me that it too soon to be left to my own devices, and I have been lucky so far.

I have got to go through my winter clothes. But I have been avoiding it because I know that I will have to get rid of some items that I really love. But they are just taking up space in my closet, I can't wear them.

Well have a great weekend everyone, I will get on here and check in more than I have been. I need this forum to keep me in check.

It's a question of whether you fundamentally change your relationship with food. I personally can't speak for myself, because I'm not fully in maintenance yet. However, this diet has worked better than any other for me, and I BELIEVE that I have changed the way I think about food. I don't like being a victim to temptation. I feel in control now. The carb addiction is gone. That said, when I start eating starch and sugars again, I might well feel out of control. But, it's up to me to push through that and gain control back. Everyone is accountable to him/herself.

So very well said Pxlkitty.
In response to those questioning maintaining after finishing the first 3 Phases... This diet & maintenance program works as well as you let it. Stick to Phase 4 protocol and you will maintain. Don't, and you will gain the weight back.

Thank you. The theory of going back on and going through the phases is a great one but I am a little scared of all of the options that we have in phase 4. Also afraid of going off plan and not mentally being able to "get back to it" you know how starting any diet or eating plan is-" I'll start tomorrow" and then you are 50 pounds heavier. I swear, that os Not happening to me. I was successful on weight watchers about 5 years ago- lost 30 pounds and was about 10 pounds from goal and I started making excuses for not going to meetings. And the options on WW are unlimited. Anyway, I gained back all 30 plus 10 and tried to do the WW program again but just could never really get back on track again. Here is to making it stick with lifestyle changes for forever!:dizzy:

Determined- you will maintain. The beauty of maintenance on this program is that it encourages you to have one day of absolute freedom on your food choices followed by a day of being on a strict, regimented diet (as IP Ph.1 is...). You retrain yourself to correct your misstep immediately rather than in five or ten pounds. You will also find out what works for you eating wise. I have to be careful of what and how much I eat- fight the bites! A bite of this or a bite of that it always seems innocuous, harmless and it is the most insidious downfall. Sticking to my meals and snack works for me- when I let myself graze I notice a change mentally in that I don't feel as in control of my food choices & on the scale it usually results in an extra pound. Welcome to maintenance and I hope that you will continue to post here often!

It is easy to get off track but you have proven to yourself and all of us that it is completely possible to get right back on track afterward. Thank you for that! And I hope that you're feeling better!
