Big Mac in a Bowl??

Can someone plz tell me what the big mac in a bowl is!!! I want to make it but i cant find the recipe anywhere on this site!! Oh, are there any other clever recipes that I'm missing out on?

Princess Jessica 07-14-2011 08:49 AM

The big mac in a bowl (the way I make it at least) is a bowl of shredded lettuce with lean ground beef (or turkey, but beef obviously tastes more like a big mac), some onions diced real fine (uncooked), some Walden Farms thousand island dressing, and a few slices of dill pickles. Pretty much just the ingredients of a big mac transformed into salad form. I love it.
I don't think I am missing anything there... but you could add other stuff if you wanted.
Have you looked through the "recipe' sticky threads at the top of the page? They are great. There is also a thread somewhere around here called "fun with ideal protein packets". It has some great ideas. I will find it and bump it for you.
Oh, and look for a thread on pudding cakes as well, those are great to mix things up. I just bumped that one a day or two ago, so it should be in the first few pages. :)

Princess Jessica 07-14-2011 08:52 AM

There, I bumped both of those threads for you, so they should be near the more recent ones. And the sticky threads are always up top. Enjoy. :)

I've had this everyday this week so far... YUMMY! I'm no longer craving BigMacs nor do I feel like I'm being deprived. LOL! Gullible or VICTORY? Me thinks ... VICTORY!

niknakjack 07-16-2011 04:55 PM

I don't know what to call this but its yummy too.

1lb ground turkey or beef sauteed in pan and drained
1 box frozen thawed spinach drained
mix into burger w/ 1/4c yellow mustard or to taste
1/4c heinz sugar free ketchup or to taste
then add chopped dill pickles to it
fill the rest into single serve containers for the rest of the week

add pickles to the rest after you reheat the next day

this is yummy, when I'm not on IP, I add cheddar cheese to the mixture and eat it in a pita

Is the Walden Farms Thousand Island better than the Bacon dressing? I had to throw out my salad and the bottle of Bacon it tasted so bad. Anybody? I don't want to buy it if it taste like crap...waste of money. thanks

Wrecky 07-18-2011 09:31 PM

I very much enjoyed it.

I guess its a matter of taste, cuz i love the bacon dressing. As for the thousand island one, it's the closest thing you'll find to a helthy big mac sauce. The big mac in a bowl is simply awesome, i could live off of that stuff :dizzy:

Wrecky 07-18-2011 09:37 PM

I agree!

mirax3 07-18-2011 09:37 PM

That sounds delicious! How many calories is in it?

No need to count the calories on IP. Just make it the IP friendly way.

It has been a couple of weeks since I made this, I think it is time to thaw the meat! ;)

Okay after the last few days reading this post title, I checked it out last night. It sounds wonderful and flavorful, so I though I would check out the WF dressings today when I went shopping.

My question is this. The store I was shopping at had WF Thousand Island. It has no sugar, no carbs. But it does have 40 calories per serving & 4 grams of fat.

My phase 1 sheet indicates if I use anything other than what is listed on the sheet (i.e. WF) it needs to be 0 fat, 0 carb, 0 sugar.

Is everyone who is eating this on phase 2? Or is there a different version of th WF Thousand Island that meets the criteria?

Thanks... I was bummed when I couldn't try it :?:

Big Mac in a bowl, pudding cakes...oh my

hyrysk 08-01-2012 11:46 AM

I use WF Russian dressing. It has a little more spice flovor than the 1000 island. My daughter requested that for dinner last night. We have had it once a week since we have been OP.

niks42 08-01-2012 12:32 PM

The WF Thousand Islands that I have has no fat, calories or sugar. I have never seen a WF with fat. Here is the info that I have on the WF Thousand Islands and it is the one I ordered on-line and is AWESOME on big mac in a bowl;

Mac in a Bowl_how to count onions/pickles

I've made this twice now, and it is yummy :), But am wondering does the 1/4 c onion and 1 pickle count for the 2 c of allotted vegetable or should I be having 2c of vegetables in addition? It seemed really filling and not sure it is is due to the WF 1000 Island dressing (I used 2TBS), or the added salt in the pickle.

Pickles and onion count as part of your 2 cups of veggies :) The only thing that doesn't count in your veggies is the lettuce.

I have been dreaming about this salad ever since I made it 2 days ago :) It is addictive!!!

I made mine a little differently though:

5 oz browned ground beef or turkey (measure after cooking)
1 cup diced dill pickles
1/4 cup diced onion
1/4 cup diced tomato
1/2 cup chopped mushrooms
2 cups lettuce
WF Russian dressing

Not EXACTLY the same as a Big Mac, but I love love love pickles, and the mushrooms added some nice texture.

Yep! I let the pickles take up a whole cup because I LOOOOVE them :) The tomato is technically on the "super restricted" veggie list so that's why I only use a small amount, enough to get the taste :)

Hgamroth 08-05-2012 08:40 AM

I add some chopped spinach to my lettuce to get the veggies up to 2 cups. My hubby loves this meal!

the wonder cat 08-05-2012 09:03 AM

instead of lettuce, I serve it on two cups of shredded green cabbage.

Halfagain 08-05-2012 11:34 AM

It's cabbage season here - and I was given three heads of it. So I've baked one head so I can freeze some - but ground beef and some baked cabbage with some of the WF tomato basil dressing reminds me of cabbage rolls (suppose those who do cauliflower rice could throw that in too :-) - I have not ventured that far yet.

I'll have to add miracle rice to mine next time!

greeniris 08-05-2012 11:46 AM

Iceberg lettuce is the only 'free' lettuce. If you use romaine, spinach, or any other lettuces, they count toward your 2 cups of veggies. Like the idea of using some shredded cabbage in the mix too. Thanks for the idea wonder cat!

My VIP & I love this dish! We both said it is a 'keeper'!

Are you sure about romaine lettuce? I've never heard that and I'm on my 24th week.

My coach said iceburg and romaine. I wonder why there are such discrepancies between coaches? I'm glad she said this b/c I rarely eat iceburg. There really isn't much nutritional punch in iceburg so I usually only eat it when there is no other alternative.

Veroli 08-05-2012 01:26 PM

I add veggie shreds (my coach allows me). I love this salad!

scorbett1103 08-05-2012 01:31 PM

Same here, my coach said unlimited lettuce, not specifically iceberg. If you look at the "vegetables" list on the official IP Phase 1 handout, it DOES mention arugula, cabbage, collards, cress, watercress, field salad (the "spring mix" salad with other greens besides lettuce), and swiss chard as greens that must count towards your two cups of veggies. Romaine, butter/Boston lettuce and iceberg were all stated to me to be part of the "unlimited" lettuce.

Welcome :) I should add that Spinach is considered a veggie, not a lettuce. That was a bummer to me as one of my favorite foods is a spinach salad, but now I just savor when I can have it :) And for whatever it's worth, I've been eating nothing but Romaine since I started the program and had the 10 pound drop in my first week so it must be working :)

Sum38 08-05-2012 09:32 PM

Yum! I need to try this one later on this week. Thanks!!
