Default Kale Chips and Turnip Fries

Ok,

I'm sorry if this is elsewhere on the thread.

I just made the kale chips - OH MY GOSH - how often can we have these!?!? I tweeked the receipe and I'm only cooking them at 200 F to dry them out and I put way to much salt on them. But I'm LOVING them for the crunch - Y-U-M!

How often are we allowed to have Turnips? I'm making the big mac bowl and turnip fries tonight - we'll see how the boyfriend likes them both.

Anyone?

I do kale at 400 degrees after spraying them with olive oil, and it is hard to describe how delicious it is while still warm/hot and dipped in a salsa.

Hi there, I'm not on IP, but I'd be curious to try the kale chips and possibly the turnip fries. Could you share the recipes?

I snagged this one from a poster (sorry I don't remember the name) but I did mine at 200 F because the first batch burnt...also this time I put WAY to much salt on them, lol.

I'm anxious to try it with the sprayed olive oil and with Salsa! yummy!!!

Can anyone tell me how often we can have turnips?

Kale Chips
adapted from Stacie Billis at ChowMama.com

1 bunch organic kale, torn into 1/2″ pieces
3 tablespoons organic olive oil
1 tablespoon organic apple cider vinegar
2 teaspoons sea salt

Preheat oven to 400° F. Whisk oil and vinegar and toss kale in the dressing
until thoroughly coated.

Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Place kale on sheet in a
single layer and sprinkle with salt.

Bake for 15 minutes or so, until crispy.

Tip to keep them crisp from CheekyWit:
I can keep kale chips in a ziploc bag for at least 4-5 days still crisp --
the secret is to make sure they are very dry - remove them immediately from
the pan you used to cook them in - lay them on a cooling rack until they are
no longer warm - put them in the ziploc -- close the bag leaving it open about
an inch -- normally they stay crisp - on day 2 I usually close the bag - hope
this helps

You can have turnips as often as you like

Rutabagas are occasional though.

ACK! I think I have a rutabaga instead of a turnip. They said Turnip - but when I googled the difference I have a rutabaga lol.

Oh well, it's just once...I'd consider that occasional. Thanks for letting me know

My grocery store doesn't know which is which either. They label it whichever. Haha.

I made some kale chips yesterday and they turned out well. I did not like the turnip "fries", though. They were kinda bitter tasting, despite the seasoned sea salt and olive oil that I put on them. I wonder if smaller turnips might be sweeter or less bitter tasting. Also, they never got crunchy-just soft.

Does anyone have a suggestion for what to do about the bitter taste?

Thanks,

Karen

...interesting about the Kale Chips...I'm finding that I loose less on the weeks that I indulge in them...does that make sense to anyone?
