caloric Intake while on IP

OK, so yesterday was a WI with my coach. We were talking about when I can get my BF onto IP and my concerns that how much he does physically on a weekend (building a house) that IP isn't quite right until he's done the house and can have less calories. Really, he can't afford to take 2-3 weeks to get used to the diet and then go back to how much he does physically every weekend.

She told me that with IP and the meat and veggies intake I should be approximately 2200 calories a day. I was shocked  and I couldn't wrap my head around that number (2200).

I was confused as the shakes and snakes shouldn't add up to much and neither should the extra veggies and 8oz or less of meat/protein for supper.

Am I right?

WOW! No way, really? I'm totally confused too. Now I don't even remember what I thought I heard. 1200/1400. ?? Well something for me to find out too.

Bretley 06-09-2011 06:00 PM

I would occasionally add up my calories and was sometimes as low as 600 but sometimes around 1100. I did not eat many occasional veggies or restricted packages so that might make a difference?

Porthardygurl 06-09-2011 06:43 PM

Yah i was trying to figure out the calorie count with 4 packets a day plus one restricted? and how come they dont allow restricted for 3 weeks? cuz dont you need more calories when you start off?

LaLibE 06-09-2011 07:34 PM

I keep track of my calorie intake on myfitnesspal.com - there are days that I don't even hit 800 calories in a day... I don't know how 2200 would be possible. This is following protocol 100%. I use 2 unrestricted packages per day, 1 restricted, 1 serving of meat between 5-8oz and then 4 cups of veggies. Definitely doesn't normally reach 1000 to be perfectly honest. All the IP foods are on that site so it's really easy to track

I agree Elissa. I track every bite. Some days I was getting only 450-500 because I wasn't eating meat for dinner. I added another pack and still adds up to around 650-750. I know meat has more calories, but not 1500 more! I think the coach needs a new calculator....LOL

Thefireresides 06-09-2011 08:06 PM

My other half is currently taking his dive master and our coach adjusted his plan. He gets five packets and an additional 3 oz of meat plus two egg whites with lunch. He has lost 14 lbs his first two weeks

Momto2cs 06-09-2011 09:12 PM

Yup. Most days are 800-1000 calories.

I still manage 1-2 hours of intense exercise every day. I think he would be fine with an extra packet.

longdivision 06-09-2011 09:23 PM

because i am a vegetarian, most days i only get around 500-650 calories. this includes 1 daily restricted. your coach is wrong about the calorie count. not only is this diet low carb and low fat, it is also very low calorie. with meat your probably rarely go over 1000 per day. Linden use to say that you (regular IP program meat eater) will get around 800 calories a day if you follow the protocol correctly.

pselias 06-09-2011 09:39 PM

I wonder if your coach was talking about how much caloric energy you would use per day. My coach told me I would be eating 800-1000 calories and that ketosis would burn another 1200-1400 calories worth of fat energy. (not entirely sure that is the proper terminology, but it's what makes sense to me)

Thanks ladies....she's very sweet but I think I know a bit more about this plan because of this forum. She is very new and has only been doing it for 3 more months then I. You've made me feel better about it lol. I just can't see 2200 calories every day and I eat exactly what told.

Thank you all for your input!! :)

UHHH NO. It's more like 700-800. That's way some people tell you not to work out much. And it's not allowed to breastfeed on this diet. It's barely supporting regular life

Perpetualdiet 06-09-2011 11:33 PM

I track the calories and carbs I take from the IP packets - I NEVER hit above 400 (usually 340-380) from the packets alone. The salad and veggies might add another 200 (MAX) and then the meat max 300 if cooked in a lean fashion - we should be hitting 800-1000 a day.

blkbmr06 - when you don't eat meat - you eat another packet? Do you feel that you lose more weight doing that?

I'm vegetarian so that's one of my choices. I sometimes eat boiled eggs or black soy beans. I will eat Salmon but it's restricted. My weight loss would probably be less sporadic if I did have a lean protein at night, but I'm satisfied with what I am doing.

I do love a good typo! I was going to say that your coach doesn't know beans (or protein, or fat, or carbs, or anything else). But if she's adding reptile to your diet, I think I'd give her a bye.

HAHAHA! I know, I noticed it when I read it the next day and laughed. I was so eager to get on here to get some sort of agreement that she was wrong I didn't load up my computer and just used my iTouch, which has a small screen and touch keyboard. I know, excuses excuses. ;)

No, she's not making me eat reptiles. :D

TWoww 06-10-2011 10:13 AM

For anyone interested in the calories, I was always ultra worried because mine would be between 600-700 until I added the cal count of 2 tsp of evoo and my Omega 3-6-9's, this boosted it up to a larger number:)

latrilee 07-03-2011 11:06 AM

Your coach was correct your intake of calories is based on the fat your body is burning in ketosis as well as what you actually intake for your meals...if you ask I am sure she can show you the calculations that add up to the daily calories...She just didn't explain it properly...Good Luck

ChynaKC 07-03-2011 09:11 PM

Yeah, she definitely has to be mistaken!

bikbmr06 Do you know if you can eat tofu as a protein on IP? I was also wondering if you knew the calorie content of the soy burgers?
Thanks.
