seasalt,why???
I started IP today. The only thing I am having trouble with is the sea salt intake. i don't use salt so I find it disgusting. Do I need to take all of it and if so what is it for?

welcome to the program! the seasalt is necessary and from what i've been told, it's to help regulate our blood pressure. also, i too am a "salt hater" but actually LOVE the sea salt, it tastes so much different (and better) to me, give it a chance :)

yes, the diet is very low sodium so you need your sea salt... hopefully you will acquire a taste for it. you can also dissolve some in warm water and just drink it down all at once i do that if i have a headache or feel light-headed.

I've rarely added salt to my food before IP. When following recipes, I had always just completely omitted the salt if it asked for any. However, I'm forced to use it on IP. Blegh!
I have definitely gotten used to it, though. I split it up into 4 - 1/8tsps a day. Any time I have vegetables, at least one of those 1/8ths gets used up, usually 2. I've also gotten in the habit of putting a little into every cup of water I've been drinking. That has actually helped me a lot, because it's little enough to where I can barely taste it, and I notice I use up 1/8tsp in every 3 cups of water. I tried getting away with having half the amount of salt, and I'm not kidding, within a few days I was fighting about 50+ charlie horses a day. My coach told me she did the same thing, and unfortunately I didn't believe her until it happened to me! So yeah, you definitely need the salt! |
I hate using salt as well...but I am doing it anyway. My question is are all sea salts the same? I thought I read somewhere that you had to buy a special kind...but I'm just using what I found in the spice aisle at teh grocery store.
