I would report her first then ask for another clinic with a reputation that make losing your weight make you not feel like a loser. I know we cant go to different IP personal without paying for the fee again. May be just in Canada though. I hope the clinnic you go to allows the transfer.....good luck

Please find any other clinic immediately!!! I just started this week, the lady who was coming out before me was in her 3rd week and was very heavy with resulting mobility issues. She was in her 3rd week and had a lower loss than first two weeks. The coach was very supportive and no did not suggest more supplements, the suggestion was more veggies and water. I heard all this because they continued their discussion as the coach helped her to her car.
There is no way I will lose 3-5 pounds every week, but I'm feeling great after just a few days. Your coach is an idiot.
I hope there are other clinics in your area.

Sadly, this "boot-camp" style attitude seems to be a disturbing trend across weight loss programs - I'm seeing increasingly unrealistic standards and expectations. I've read and heard more and more similar stores - and not just about weight loss counselors, but from doctors and dietitians and exercise coaches/instructors/personal trainers - people who should know better.

Call me crazy, but I suspect it's the influence of reality show television. Shows like The Biggest Loser and Extreme Makeover weight loss edition portray weight loss in a way that makes it seem like people only lose weight if they're screamed at, humiliated, insulted or threatened (and ideally all four).

This isn't the first time that the weight loss by abuse theory has been widely supported. From kindergarten through 5th grade, I was publically bullied, humiliated and verbally tortured by the P.E. coach (a very fat man himself). When I told my mother about it, she was initially outraged and went to the school to confront the teacher. Sadly, when the teacher explained to Mom that he was doing it to motivate me to lose weight, my parents were satisfied with that explanation and I was told that if I didn't like it, I needed to lose the weight.

Even as a very little kid, I knew that strategy didn't work for me. Being bullied and treated badly didn't inspire me to try harder, it only made me want to hide and eat. It made me hate all physical activity (except swimming, and I'm not sure why - since this is the activity most publically acceptable to shun - maybe I was just stubborn).

I tried to explain it to adults, but they wouldn't listen.

I had hoped that the days of people believing in weight loss by torture were over, but sadly they're not.

thats horrible! i am so sorry. even if you only lost 1 pound because you cheated, they should be encouraging of you to get back on track...slipups happen but especially because you were on your menstral cycle, thats a real reason. and a pound is good you cant always lose high numbers

how horrible. i am so sorry.

Yes, call it the Jillian Micheals syndrome, I stopped watching BL because of her bullying.

I agree with the concensus here:

1. You have made great progress so far. You're to be congratulated, not criticized.

2. Your coach sucks! To me, the most important part of being a great coach is being a chearleader for a client. Your coach fails this test miserably!

I hope you don't let the insensitive and unhelpful statements of one idiot turn you off of a great program. IP certainly seems to be working for you. If you want to continue with IP, I suggest finding another coach and reporting the stupid one to his/her supervisor and to corporate IP.

Best of luck and let us know how it turns out for you!

Karen

I watched one episode of BL, I thought it was disgusting that during the 'your voted off' segment they had a 'plate of food' in front of them and when they were voted off the fridge that highlighted their name was turned off. Bullying never helped me lose weight.

I think you need a new coach, mine is gentle and sweet. However, I do know HER coach thinks she needs to be harder on her clients. She wasn't worried about my smaller weight losses because she knew I was focused and 'not cheating' she just encouraged me. Shop around for a new coach, this is about YOU finding the right fit. If I don't like a doctor I find a new one, same goes for coaches.

Bellamack 07-27-2011 05:06 PM

Geezzzz, if you are 100% OP, what does the coach want you to do? Cut off an are? I have a great coach that understands middle age women problems and I have a faulty thyroid, and although I am on meds for thyroid, I still am a fairly slow loser.

You should report this to IP "higher ups" and congrats on your weight loss, thus far. You are doing Great!

Pxlkitty4 07-27-2011 05:51 PM

I am guessing that your coach is new and that they are worried that their clients aren't doing as well as the program "promises"... My coach is more established, and said that we woudl lose "about 10lbs per month". I have done just that. If you have another choice for a clinic, go there. If not, call the IP main phone number and tell them what your coach said. We pay a lot of money for this program, and shouldn't be treated like that.

You are at the wrong place. As a guy there's no reason (other than falling off the wagon) that I should have had weight gains. It's happened twice though and not only did no one mention anything like that they are using before and after pictures of me for promotional material.

Sherwood 07-27-2011 06:43 PM

I totally agree that you need a new clinic pronto! I'd go that step further though and report the clinic and your coach to IP on their website (either Canada or the U.S.). This may prevent someone else getting abused by an unethical/unknowledgable practitioner.

Watkat 07-27-2011 06:47 PM

WOW! That is a horrid way to treat someone! I am so sorry you had to go though that!
Please get out of there. I hate to think of her treating all of her clients like this. You need to report her.

Pauley 07-27-2011 09:26 PM

My coach actually had several weeks with only a .3 loss and she shares this with her clients to keep us from getting discouraged over a bad week or 2. My doctor (who sponsors the program) was also a slow loser at times. Obviously they have a much different philosophy than the terrible place you went. I hope you are able to find an alternative clinic in your area! At least you know you will get plenty of positive support on this site.

champaignsupernova 07-27-2011 10:13 PM

Wow. I would certainly find a different coach/clinic AND report this coach. This is NOT what you are paying for- to be told you should be kicked out despite staying OP. I am sorry you have had to deal with such a poor excuse for a coach. Good luck.

kimstwart 07-27-2011 10:17 PM

Thank you to everyone for the encouragement!

I am truly moved by the responses regarding the diet coach who threatened to kick me off the program. Thank you for the support and good advice!:)
