The Strangest Cravings
hi guys! i thought it would be fun to talk about the weird things that we start to crave that we never really craved before IP.
I'll start... HAMBURGERS. i've been a vegetarian for 15 years and never craved any kind of meat. Now for some reason, every time i see a commercial or a billboard with a hamburger on it my mouth starts to water. it's the strangest thing. i can't figure out why, of all things, i would want hamburgers. i thought i would be missing bread or burritos or ice cream or pizza... nope, HAMBURGERS.:?: now it's your turn. i know i can't be the only one craving something strange. tell me what you crave!! |
Ha! i LOVE hamburgers. in fact, they are the only pregnancy food i craved. I'm excited b/c i just got my wf catsup in the mail, and now i can have a lean ground beef patty w/ catsup, mustard, and pickles. but, that's not strange, b/c i always crave hamburgers.
The strange cravings i'm having are the "veggies" i'm not allowed to have. I really want some corn on the cob, or peas and beans of all kinds. I'm really not craving the things i usually crave on a diet. cute idea for a thread. |
My first strange craving was biscuits. I actually hate biscuits. They seem flavorless and boring too me. Suddenly I was wanting something I logically knew I dislike. :?:
The next craving I had was less strange, I actually did like them, beans and quinoa. I couldn't shake that for the longest time. The third craving was for pancakes. Again, I don't like pancakes. They always made me sick. I was actually dreaming of pancakes at one point. :) The final craving I had was for peanut butter. I always had liked peanuts but, never peanut butter. It will be interesting this round to see what cravings come my way. |
What I am really craving is some of my Nanny's pickled beets. What is killing me is I have 4 jars here at home waiting till I reach my goal and can have them again. I also crave a Donair, my wife says I should just try and create a recipe that would taste like a donair.

I crave for a slushie on a freezing cold MB day -34) and I NEVER drink slushies!! I also crave for pancakes, I make them for my son on the weekend, oh how I miss sharing them with him. The crepes are just not the same and I haven't tried the chocolate pancake, yet.

A good substitute for donair sauce that i used to use is plain yogurt and cayenne pepper.

1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon ground oregano 1 teaspoon all-purpose flour (omit) 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder 1/2 teaspoon onion powder 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper 1 pound ground beef (bison) Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). In a cup or small bowl, mix together the salt, oregano, flour, black pepper, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Place the ground beef in a large bowl, and use your hands to blend in the spice mixture. If you want the smooth texture of meat that you see in a real donair shop, you must do this in a steel mixing bowl and on a sturdy surface. Pick up the meat, and throw it down with force about 20 times, kneading it after each throw. This also helps the meat hold together better when you slice it. Form the meat into a loaf, and place it on a broiler pan. If you do not have one, a baking sheet will do. Bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes in the preheated oven, turning the loaf over about half way through. This will ensure even cooking. This cuts better if you chill the meat overnight before slicing. I am waiting until tomorrow to try it.:D:carrot: |

my food cravings have been pizza and potatoes. i loved both of these before but now i crave them even more. when my family goes and gets pizza i tell them they are not allowed to bring it back because i know i will slip up.
but i was always a big candy eater. any kind of candy and now i don't even think about eating the candy or cakes or anything like that. it is just those dang pizza's and potatoes. |

Funny thing is, I don't crave the rice or potatoes that I'm used to. I crave crackers. Today I tried the crepe mix crackers, and they came out great, except for one problem. I baked them on wax paper. FYI, they don't come off the paper. Sigh. Right now I'm trying out chicken crackers with the soup mix, a tip I got from a Medifast user. I'll let you know how they come out! |

I watch a lot of the Food Network. One show I watch a lot of is "The Best Thing I Ever Ate"...when professional chefs/cooks tell what 'they' like to eat. The other day one gal mentioned Blueberry Ricotta Pancakes with Maple Syrup....I could eat a tower of those! (but won't!)
|
I've been craving everything that is rich and creamy.
I try not to think too much about my cravings as that is what got me here it the first place! What I have been trying, and I think succeeding in retraining myself to think of Food as Fuel and nothing else. |
