The rule is absolutely no alcohol of any kind while on phase one. I originally thought I would have wine too (while I go to Vegas over Christmas) when I first started the diet, but three months in....not going to touch it....I see the light at the end of the rainbow. If I stay away from everything I could reach goal by the middle of January. If you want to lose weight fast and have phase one behind you...stay away from it. (BTW....I love wine, beer, margaritas, used to drink quite a bit).
But if you are going to make the mistake....red wine has the lowest sugar content for the most part.
