Wuv2BLoved, why is it that I have to stay away from Diet Coke? To be honest, I don't get it. I've always drunk a lot of diet coke on previous diets - and most of the time I was losing. She said it had carbs but I don't see any source of carbs. so I just don't get it. But I can't argue with the successes I see on here so I am staying away from it.

MayKatCooper, my son is 1000 miles away in Ottawa Ontario. I'm at the top of Lake Superior and pretty much everything is far away.

JackieGee let me jump in here on the Diet Coke issue. The normal sweetener in diet colas is aspartame (nutrasweet) and effects our insulin release as if sugar has just been consumed. Ketosis works on the basis of insulin not being released and therefore Diet Coke and those things (diet gums, artificially sweetened jams and jellies etc) are NOT to be consumed. Splenda, sucralose, does not cause that insuline spike and is the sweetener used in our IP foods and in Walden Farms foods. Orbit chewing gum is the only one I'm allowed to chew and no more than 2 pieces a day. Diet Rite Cola is made with Splenda and so can be consumed as can Mio the new drink additive. Hope this helps and makes the reasons for the rules help you toward true success! Smile. Kathy

Thanks Maykat for explaining that to her, because you did much better than I would of! :)

There is also a Diet Coke with Splenda available in cans (12 pack) that I have found here in Tennessee. It takes a couple of days to get used to, but it is good and better for you than aspartame. I have 1 can/day and it has not affected my weight loss.

Thanks MayKatCooper for the explanation. I haven't been able to find the RC cola so maybe it's not available in Canada. But I will look for the splenda coke. Right now I'm just trying to be satisfied with water.
I'll probably get over my addiction soon

In further answer to the Diet Coke question... I am an advocate of Dr. Mercola's health e-newsletter. He has appeared on our US National news shows and I like very much his advice and counsel in most areas. He includes clips, interviews etc. in video format. This one came today, August 3, 2011 HOW TIMELY IS THAT??? Smile.

At this link you will be able to view the entire 10 minute+ newscast. It is quite informative. WOW! Hope it gives everyone the added motivation they need to avoid products with NutraSweet (aspartame) as Ideal Protein protocol instructs us to do. Smile.

Hi I have been on program since June 6th. The first two weeks was absolutely the hardest for me. I honestly didn't know if I could do it. I have had 2 weeks where I went off.....not a whole week but a couple of days. In all honesty, I'm glad I did it although I didn't feel the best afterwards but I enjoyed the moments with friends and family without the worries. As of this morning, I am down 27.4lbs & 30". If I keep it up I will be at goal or very close to it by my 20th wedding anniversary on November 9th.

I have been reading for a couple of weeks and thought maybe I'm ready to join! It really seems like a great group to belong too!!!

Hi!

My name is Amanda and I have been OP since July 27th. My first week weigh in was this morning. I am down 4lbs and 6 inches! The first week was pretty good, but really excited about the program and already feeling better and not as bloated. I am sensitive to grains - so this is perfect! Not nearly as hungry or tired this week either. The only thing I'm truly missing is my red wine - haha!

Super glad I found these boards the day I began - they have been really helpful! My coach is awesome but it's nice to have a ton of coaches and cheerleaders! ;)
Look forward to reading and learning more about IP!

Hello, My name is Tracy and I just started IP last Sunday. So far so good with no cheats!! I get a little hungry sometimes but I know that this will improve after a few more days! I love this communitly and have learned alot of new information. Oh something my coach shared...when he needs something sweet he gets ice from the snowball stand and puts WF strawberry syrup on it and makes his very own snowball!!

Day 4

Hello everyone!

I am new to the board but I really love reading everyone's advice. My first weigh in is next Monday! Starting to feel better in my clothes. I have not gotten on the scale at home. I want to be surprised at my weight in. I hope everyone has a great day.:D

colley 08-10-2011 03:16 PM

Hello everyone, I don't think that I ever posted on this thread, don't know why, post on the daily once and a while, but I'm Colleen and I've been on IP for just over 8 weeks now and absolutely love this program. I find it extremely easy, especially when you find out the right information..... i.e. whats restricted!!!!
