NSV this week

I better notice my NSVs (Non Scale Victories) this week, because I think the scale victory will be minimal.

My body seems to have been burning the fat on my neck and upper upper torso. There's much less insulation on my upper ribs and collarbone, and Ladies and Gentleman, we're seeing the emergence of the jawbone!

Well, I mean really! What did you expect? That you'd melt from your toes up? Let's get real here, lady.

Oh. Ummm. Have you checked your toes?

svelting, I ADORE your new avatar!

My latest dilemma - I put my hubby on IP two weeks ago (plus two days). I figured it would be nice if we went through the stages together. He has already lost almost 14 lbs!!! :faint: He is totally going to leapfrog me and I am going to have to put him on phase 2 and 3 WAAAY ahead of going on it myself. I am the one going to the IP clinic, so I'm going to have to figure out the new phases all on my own, sans help from my coach. I've got all the protocol sheets and explanations, so I'll manage, but boy, I never expected this. :p

Hi, pookee, Sorry, but I have to comment here and add to your suggestions.:) I'm a 52-year-old grandma of 6, and I used cloth diapers with my own children to save money. My oldest son refused to be potty trained until he was 4. He didn't care how big a load might be hanging down to his knees or ankles. I practically had to tackle him to get the poopy diapers off of him. My second son trained himself completely by the time he was 18 months. He screamed over the least drop of urine in the cloth diaper. So at 4 the older one trained himself in shame when his baby brother outdid him. Just saying that cloth diapers aren't magic, but they do work with the right child. You could always use disposable until you think it's potty training time and then put the child in cloth diapers or thick training pants.

LINDEN, thanks for your kind words in yesterday's thread.

So excited today!! Down 16 lbs in less than 3 weeks!! Feeling so much better the past two days too! Starting eating my meat at my lunch meal and I think that is the key for me - at least for now. Before I felt like I was spending the entire day counting down the minutes until dinner.

Question for you long-timers, did any of you ever move to Phase 2 and eat 2 meat meals per day vs. protein packs? I think I feel much better with actual food but I also like these results. Or, if you did not move to Phase 2 early, did you occasionally eat an extra meat meal if you were out, away from home, on vacation, etc? I'm thinking ahead for my reunion weekend so I can eat two meals per day and just have 2 packs (1 for b'fast and 1 for snack).

Thanks and have a great Friday!

I officially started Phase 2 after I lost 80% of the weight, but yes I did occasionally have meat instead of a protein packet when I was out during Phase 1. I usually ate grilled chicken when I did that. My friend who did the diet with me did this all the time and her losses stayed steady.

I hear ya on the figuring out the phases for DH ahead of my schedule. I think he'll be there before me so I have already started the research. :book2: I admit this pain is self inflicted. (I know some of you probably are wondering what is wrong with him that he can't research himself) I love the internet and I LOVE this site! :comp: You all have been so helpful. So I actually semi enjoy trying to figure out how to get his skinny butt through the rest of the phases.

So yesterday DH and I spent the day with family and friends, several who hadn't seen us in a while. We got the "You look great! How much of have lost?" followed by the "You don't need to lose anymore", "Stop dieting", :blah: So very annoying. At first I commented that they don't see the belly pooch that we have locked inside the shorts. Then we both just gave up and didn't respond. Silence is golden.

Have a wonderful day!

So the bra saga continues. Remember when I was posting about not losing inches really quickly? It seems like I lost 4 inches from my freaking ribcage. Who loses only in their ribcage? SHEESH. SO I went down 2 band sizes, and was wearing the wrong cup size, that is bigger too. 32 bands in bigger sizes are hard to find so the poor lady at VS was trying every trick in the book. They don't carry my size really. I had gone to Nordies first and was not impressed with my lady and didn't believe her. I had my choice of one that wasn't cute, and wasn't black, she would have to order it. Not happening. So I cruised the mall, and did not find ONE that fit besides that one at Nordies.

Off to the specialty store today. It's gotta be cute AND black. Then I will order a bunch of stuff online once I get a handle of styles in that size.

Feeling a little better this morning - this cold just might be on its way out. I was a little concerned that my body's not strong enough to fight it off well, but maybe I'm just being too dramatic.:^:

I found a really pretty shirt on the clearance rack - a lovely dark purple with embroidery across the top. I bought the 1X size. What a mixed surprise when this morning, it feels too big?? I may have to deep seam the sides and the shoulders so that I can wear it comfortably. I have to keep pulling it up! My size 20 JMS capris are starting to get good and loose around the waist, finally. AND my scales this morning said 205!!! I was 209 just Wednesday morning!! :goodscale

Maybe no one remembers, but I was so excited yesterday when I said that I was wearing a size 16 pants - I was SOO wrong - I looked at the tag a bit closer - they were 18. But that's ok, I still know they've been out of my reach for years, and now I can wear them again. I am so ready to break out of the 200s and into ONE-derland!! :dancer:

So may I testify to the fact that getting your "breakfast" in during the first hour really does make a difference? I feel better, actually, and it does seem to jumpstart my day nicely.

Took my good old beagle dog, Duke, with me on my walk last night - it was fun but not as long or productive as I would have liked. He had to stop at almost every post and bush to mark his territory. But it was nice to have company!

Have a great Friday, all! :D Oh, and I love this smilie - - :lol3: Isn't it so funny??

Isn't it strange how we're all losing differently - I swear I've lost like crazy from my upper body (particularly my shoulders and boobs) but my waist and hips are so slow!! I'm looking so out of proportion - my bottom half is larger than my upper half! Guess I shouldn't complain, since I'm still losing! Hang in there - surely we'll even out eventually. :D

Hey all,
I'm totally new to this whole thing, but I thought this site could be the support I needed to finally shed the weight and keep it off.

As of now, I've been currently living overseas for the past two years and I have seen my weight fluctuate so much, I'm at loss of what to do. Before leaving the states after college graduation, I weighed 139lbs. Starting at 200+lbs, in my last year of college: I joined a gym, walked my dog everyday for an hour (sometimes jogging), did sit-ups, crunches, yoga and basic belly dancing, and of course I ate smaller-healthier portions. So its easy to see how I lost the weight.
But sadly, being overseas means a change in diet, the amount of time and availabily to exercise when free, and of coure the stress load from work. I know I've fallen off the horse, blaming the stated reasons and myself, and I've tried so many things to get back down to the size I was before I left. I'm a confessed yo-yo dieter and I want to stop.

I would like to reach my goal of 130lbs.
I'm interested in any and all (healthy) suggestions and/or opinions.

Please and Thank you.

HopefulTricia 08-27-2010 10:48 AM

Great NSV today. Rode my bike up the big hill this morning that made me so sick a few weeks ago. I was afraid to do it, but just kept breathing slowly and praying!
Rode 6 miles -- good thing since I tried the pancakes this morning for the very first time. Too many carbs compared to my beloved ready made vanillas.
Chelle--Today is day two of phase two for me. Needing to move on because I leave on Sept 5.Phase two is easy breezy -- just like phase one with an extra meal and one less IP. I have done this some days anyway when I've been away before. Still have some weight to lose-- hope phase two doesn't let me down. Sounds like it's been good to you! Guess I need to go check out the after phase one board. In case I don't get to say it before you leave, I hope you have a wonderful trip-- and I will try to post before you go.

Oh yeah... in a week from now im leaving on vacation to visit family...lots of planning to do to stick with the program but my family is quite supportive! It should all work out!

Kudos to all of you :) its nice to see our bodies changing even if its an hassel to get bras...or reg clothes to fit...

First Day

Good Morning All,

I was so excited about starting IP today, I was up at 3 AM, my mind racing about my hopes and also my doubts. My short-term goal is to fit back into some of my clothes by the holidays. As I understand it, I am not supposed to exercise to hard in the beginning of this program, so I will take daily walks during my lunch break. I had the chocolate drink this morning for breakfast around 8am. It's now 11H22am and I just had a Crystal Light with the pills (vitamins etc..) Lunch will be Tuna + Spinach + Lettuce.

talk to you all later, I will post at the end of the day and let you know how it went. I am really glad I found this forum. Thank you for sharing and taking the time to read my post. :crossed:

Good Morning Flora,

WOW CONGRATS!!! You give me hope. You're right, indeed, finding clothes that fit because you've lost weight is def. a nice problem to have:).

If you don't mind me asking: what are Miracle Noodles? Never heard of it!

Keep up the good work!

Ketosis and ketostix (or ketosticks)

I haven't used the ketostix. Here's what some others have said -- they've followed the Phase 1 program exactly and had the symptoms of ketosis (no cravings, low hunger, metallic bad breath) but never "peed purple" on the ketostix. Do you have the symptoms I listed? Are you losing pounds and/or inches? If yes, there's nothing to worry about.

Trying to remember ... did you post about weighing daily? If so, have you transferred to a new "obsession"? ;)

Does anyone know where less expensive yet comparable vitamins can be purchased? The IP ones are too expensive for me. In addition to the required ones, I am also taking the Anti-oxy and the Omega 3. Any direction would be greatly appreciated.

Hello everyone!
New to this forum and new to Ideal Protein. Thought it would be good to join a group. I'm on my 3rd day of this diet and so far it is going good. I've tried all sorts of diets before and I know this is going to be the one that WORKS for me.

I love to read all of the support on this board!

Thanks, Bev, for sharing this with me. Your results are fabulous and I hope to follow in your lead! I'm 5' 3.5" so just about your height as well! How much did your friend lose who ate the two meals fairly regularly? I'm thinking that option will help me keep my focus - especially when my mind starts to wander!!

no, it was not me with the weighing in obsession. For the most part, I have the ketosis signs............except for about one hour ago....went out to do my groceries and i had a sudden craving for fast food like you would not beleive....it took everything for me to drive home without making a  pitstop....it was at the point where i was praticly in tears...like that is up with that!! but i managed to make it home..thank god i had a ready made pudding in the fridge, i hurried and grabbed that and savored every bite.....now for the vegies...wow...this can get really hard at times. :o

I can have a salad without hearing about it!!!!

Ok, so I am having my first lunch on IP: tuna + green salad, and am sitting in the kitchen with my co-workers. We're talking carbs galore here: everyone is having fries; it's Friday, so they wanted to go a little crazy I guess (McDonalds regular frieds, Kojax thick fries etc..)

All of a sudden I am the center of attention because I am having a salad, and because I am not interested in tasting their fries. They kept offering every 2 minutes, and clearly stated they wanted to see how long I woudl hold my ground.

Here's the funny part. I didn't tell anyone I was on IP, I was just trying to @#!@#! enjoy my salad. Regular people can't have salads? What is this? Any suggestions, anyone encountered this kind of behavior from friends/family/coworkers. I am thinking of switching my lunch break to 1pm, when most people have eaten their lunch and left the kitchen.

:bomb:Ventingly yours,

I know what you are going through. I went camping with my SIL and brother last weekend and she spent the entire weekend trying to make me drink Sangria and offering me Smores every 2 min. I got really mad at her because she knew that I was doing IP, yet she was trying to "jokingly" sabotage me. I told he it was the equivalent as trying to force me to smoke a cigarette or something.....not funny!

In the past when I was trying to lose weight I didnt tell a soul for some unknown reason... but this time I decided to tell my whole team - friends and family... and surprisinly ppl are very nice, checking what I eat... asking question staying away with tempting food - planing something else than going to the restaurant... and even my family will adjust when we visit...I was quite surprised by the amount of support i was receiving so im not affraid to tell anymore.

Mel.. your SIL is just mean...there is joking and joking.. but im glad you held your ground! Good for you!

Thought I'd share a little store I really like. It is called Fustini's They sell high quality infused olive oils. If you happen to live near Traverse City, MI you can go in and do tastings but I stock up when I visit a friend there. My favorite are the olive oil infused with either garlic or chipolte. The chipolte is great if you are doing an oil and vinegar salad dressing and I even use it when I'm cooking veggies.

Morning Everyone,
Well I have my WI tonight, I am excited to see the results!! I am also one of those who are lucky to have a good support system. My husband and kids are very supportive. Well school starts next week and with Harvest close I was making goodies for everyone and had a little week moment and had a teaspoon of cookie dough. uggg I will have to find things that don't temp me or maybe just get them store bought treats. I lovvvveee coookie dough, so that might be the trick. lol Hope you all have a great day!

No brand names to offer (I'm in Canada) however, there's a summary of what's in the 3 main IP supplements in the thread linked above and a downloadable PDF in the IP - Food Alternatives thread, message #119,

Omega 3 caps are just about everywhere these days. I found one I like at Walmart, it's the store brand.

Are you switching your protein meal to lunches? Funny, I never considered it. I always have my protein at dinner! It would make it easier at work without people commenting on the IP products though. My coworkers know I'm always eating weird and on some sort of special diet, so they are pretty lax about giving me grief.

Does anyone know where I could order the miracle noodles without having to order 10 or more packages? I'd like to try them before I make that much of a commitment lol.

Hey all,
I'm totally new to this whole thing, but I thought this site could be the support I needed to finally shed the weight and keep it off.

Hi KattoS! This is a good site for support for lifetime eating changes. When you get close to your goal, look at the life after phase 1 for comments from people maintaining their loss.

As to yo-yo dieting, I have a few thoughts. You know the saying, every pound has a story? I think for permanent weight loss, we need to consider the reasons we eat poorly and gain. And it's a little different for everyone. Do you eat when stressed? Do you eat when depressed? Do you eat when lonely? do you eat when you feel guilty or ashamed? do you eat when your feeling overwhelmed? When is food your "go to"? also, What thoughts or beliefs do we have about food? Thoughts like "I could never be happy without sweets." or "I could never go out with so and so without drinking." If we want permanent weight loss we have to change our thinking, identify our personal problem spots and find solutions.

Some psycho babble stuff, I know!:)
Three other thoughts about changing our thinking that have been rolling around in my mind as well.

1. We have to appreciate and care for ourselves. Shame, hating the way we look never lasts for the long hall. It leads to starving ourselves, then pigging out. You have to love yourself enough eat well and make positive changes not just to look better, but for health and to live longer. What do you like about yourself? What about life are you excited about that makes you want to live longer and enjoy life to the fullest? Do you believe you deserve to be a thinner healthier person? Better to eat to lose weight because you deserve to be healthy and active, then to punish yourself with less food because you've overindulged and are "fat." Self hatred and shame are terrible long term motivators, especially for women.

2. Kill the perfectionist in you! I mean this primarily for maintenance, after phase 1. I am surrounded with people in my family who are either jogging every day and eating perfect and losing weight like crazy, or eating anything and everything and not exercising at all, talking about when they'll eventually "get back on track." If they have a few days or weeks that are "off" sometimes it takes a whole year before they are back "on." If all you have time for is 10 min of exercise 2x this week, then do it, without feeling like it's a waste. I say this mainly for the maintenance phase, as phase 1 of this diet isn't for vigorous exercise. Actually, for phase 1, you have to be pretty uptight about following protocol, too. So this advice is mainly for "real life."

3. Don't let your life be about weight. Don't let movement on the scale or compliments about what you look like be the only thing you have to be excited about. When it doesn't happen, (and sometimes it won't) it can be a real killer. And it will make you want to quit. Enjoy who you are and where your at and let weight loss be the icing on the cake.

I have not "arrived." I am working through this issues continually. That's why they are so readily on my mind! :)
