IP Weekly Chat August 7th - 13th

Our threads aren't lasting quite a week anymore, but we'll use this one until we get 500 again. ;)

This will sound silly but it is true. Up 2 lbs today and all I did was chew Trident gum and have a diet soda. My system is so very sensitive that I can't get away with anything! Should have had a glass of wine instead...
Melissa-- so how are you feeling now? Do you really want the job or are you happy either way? I was an HR manager for awhile and did a lot of interviews for J & J. I've never liked the 3 or 4 or 5 on 1 type of interview. Seems way too unfair to me. I can think of an example in my career where I didn't get a promotion I really wanted-- instead I went back to school and got an MBA and moved on to Johnson & Johnson. A much better career move that wouldn't have happened if I got the promotion. Are there other opportunities in your company if this one doesn't work out?

I love IP because I can wear skirts again. How about you?

Hate that you're up 2 lbs! Darn it! You'll drop it quick...

I'm feeling fine, and  I am happy either way. I had planned to return to school in the fall to get my BS (I only have my AA), but now I am studying to take the IAAP CPS and/or CAP because it means a 5% raise in my company, and we've had a salary freeze for 3 years and counting. Now that my son is leaving home, I'm going to have plenty of time to study!

Opportunities are far and few with my company. We do not have a very high turn over rate. We have good pay, benefits, pension etc., so most are content to stay until they retire. That being said, this is the 2nd or 3rd time that this particular position has opened up in my 8 years (which scares me). However, my position had several turn overs in the years before I got it, and I've been happy in it for 8, so maybe it has something to do with the person.

Love that I'm starting to be able to wear skirts again - and I can't wait til they're smaller, much much smaller! :broc:

HopefulTricia 08-07-2010 08:18 AM

Melissa -- Don't remind me about son leaving!! Mine goes in 10 days for sophomore year at college. Loved having him here all summer & hate him going as much as I did last year. My older son graduated last year and lives just one hour away, thankfully. But it's harder and harder to get everyone together for much besides Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. They are both fine young men and I am very thankful for that.

damgi 08-07-2010 08:58 AM

I have to go back and catch up on the last few days, but I had to share this:

DH weighed in yesterday and was down 6.4 for a total of 16.8 in 17 days. (MEN! Why do they get to lose so much so fast...) Anyway, the clinic owner / his coach said to him "What have you been doing?"

:?:WTF! He's been following your protocol, what the heck do you think he has been doing?

I'm tellin ya, these coaches we have are so out of touch and almost useless.

Now, I'm sure she meant it other than how we heard it (or at least I hope she did), but the question just seemed so ridiculous at the time.

Thanks for letting me vent, now let me go catch up on everyone's activities for the past couple of days! Enjoy the weekend everyone!
Danielle

Oh Where Oh Where has our resident BOOKWORM gone??? I thought I remembered her saying that www.ourhealthcoop.com had the IP Potassium Calcium supplements, but I can't find them. I really need to order... oh BEVS, please come back!!! We still need you.

damgi 08-07-2010 09:14 AM

I also forgot to include that we had company last night and served them hot dogs and hamburgers (with buns), mac & cheese, wine, and scotch. We had no problems at all. Explained about our diet and they were all cool about it. I was worried that once they heard we weren't drinking they would make a quick getaway. LOL We had club soda and mint as fake mohitos and of course our nighttime IP snack and lots of water!

This morning I feel great, but I bet they have a headache! hahaha

tle1103 08-07-2010 09:48 AM

Stressful Time

Well, I am in the process of changing jobs, house hunting, and trying to sell our home that we own now. I have been through this too many times. Please keep me in your thoughts. I know I am already stressed over all of this and will need to stay focused and positive.
The weather is beautiful here in WV today. At least that helps to make it a pleasant day!

Sounds like you are working for a good, solid company if it has such a low turnover rate. That's awesome, job security is a wonderful thing!

I'm so glad your company was supportive. Sometimes people just don't get it. I generally try to avoid telling people, just for that reason. It's great that you had a positive experience! :) Oh yeah, and most important, glad you were able to avoid the cheats and stay on plan!! :carrot:

Can anyone help me .... there was a discussion on scales a while back and I lost the info I had on them. It was in about the $100 range and had a body fat reader, and other functions. Thanks

NEPatsFan 08-07-2010 10:48 AM

I have been lurking reading alot of everyone's posts. Great information! I weighed in today and lost one pound. My coach basically says in so many words not a great week. I have been on the program for 4 weeks and have lost 14.8 pounds. I don't have a lot to lose. I actually only want to lose about another 8 pounds.

Weekends are very hard for me! It has been one birthday party after another or someone calling us to go out to dinner. I did cheat last weekend and I probably worked on most of the week burning that off!

I have to really focus the next few weeks. On 8/21 my husband is throwing me a 40th B-day party. 9/4 is my actual birthday and on 9/6 we leave for Las Vegas. If I stay at only losing 1 pound a week there is going to be a problem!

I guess I am just aggravated. I just want a glass of wine....hahahaha:D

You have a lot going on in your life! Hang in there! Be sure to reach out to others when you need help. I find that sometimes I take too much on myself when others can help if I ask. Whether it is emotional support or actually doing something. You have done great with your weight loss! Be proud of that and enjoy the nice weather!

That's rough! On the other hand, a sensitive system means you'll eat healthier than most. :) I'm thinking of getting more skirts because usually it's a lot easier to adjust/downsize a skirt than slacks.

No headache/hangover -- great reward for you and your husband! :D I'm so glad that your guests were gracious about your food and beverage choices. You made food that they expected and enjoyed, and you had food that you enjoyed. My goodness, it wasn't as if you were serving IP leek soup and banana pudding for everyone!

Been there, done that, too. I'll be thinking of you and sending you positive and clear-minded vibes -- as well as the intention for several deep-pocketed, decisive, interested buyers!

4 weeks, pounds lost 19.2, inches lost 21.7. The largest shrinkage area is my thighs 10" total, almost half of the total inches. No wonder my pants look baggy.

Expect the best. Look for the positive. I may be wrong but, I think when your parents see you they will see a changed person and, given their love and concern for your health and well being, they will be happy/supportive. Of course they may have their own opinions and concerns. All people question what is different. The nice thing is you are on phase 2. You get 2 normal meals a day. AND, they should be appreciative of good simple food... that is what you get. Take some bars or snack style restricted foods if you eat them. Take some hard boiled eggs, or sliced cooked chicken breast, take some cut up veggies. These will help with snacks if you need to and are driving. Remember to keep plenty of water handy, and drink more, especially if you are eating out often and at buffets (too much sodium). Keep plenty of protein drinks available. Your parents are familiar with things like boost so, supplemental nutrition is not unfamiliar territory.

This reminds me of an old story about a town up ahead.

"Once, a man pulled up into a gas station in the country, and asked the gas station attendant, "What are the people like in the next town up ahead?" The attendant said, "What were the people like in the town you just came from?" "Awful people," the man responded. "Rude, cold, hostile, abrupt, unfriendly. They wouldn't give me the time of day." "Well," said the attendant, "I'm sorry to say it, but you're going to find exactly the same sort of people in the next town up ahead." A bit later, another driver pulled in, heading in the same direction as the
first. "What are the people like in the next town up ahead?" the second man asked. The attendant said, "What were the people like in the town you just came from?" "Wonderful people," the second man responded. "Friendly, warm, helpful, patient, kind. They went out of their way to help a stranger." "Well," said the attendant, "I'm happy to tell you that you're going to find exactly the same kind of people in the next town up ahead." ."

I have always taken that story as a reminder that sometimes what we get in life is what we reflect and/or expect. If you expect your family to be supportive, maybe, they will be.

Good luck on the trip! We will miss you!

Thanks for your wise & encouraging words, Carla... & I'll try to remember your story about the town up ahead... I'm feeling pretty good about being able to stick to Phase 2 protocol the whole trip... making final preparations today & will leave early tomorrow morning... I'll really miss all of y'all, you've been my soulmates & a great inspiration for the past two & a half months... but I'll be back, hopefully by next Saturday!..

I had a good NSV yesterday while deciding what clothes to take... the size 14 pants that were my very 1st IP NSV are now loose!.. I'm still taking them in case I need long pants, but I'll try to live in shorts as much as possible... always hot & sticky in Oklahoma City this time of year...

hugs

In some situations, you become very popular on this diet, because designated drivers are in short supply. :D

going to ask on the weekly thread too,. first posted in life after phase 1, but i think that more people come here on a regular basis than there:

what is the significance of fruit in phase 3? fruit is just sugar. i have NEVER been a fruit person, fruit and fruit juices have always given me massive headaches. should i adjust my breaskfast to include more dairy or whole wheat toast to compensate for this? i can sometimes get away with a couple of gulps of orange juice if it's absolutely necessary but i'd really rather stay away from fruit :/

thanks for any explanations/advice!

eli/dk
did my reverse crunches and the other ab workouts this morning. i am having a hard time with the second exercise. lying on back, bending legs, point toes and tap, bring up and back down...i am having the MOST difficult time keeping my back flat on the ground. my big butt is in the way and causes this curve to where my lower back can't touch. any thoughts?

I think I've given up on trying to catch up on the posts for the week. This working full time again has really messed with my time on the internet.;) That's okay, I'm loving my new job and I'm staying on track with IP so it's all good! I can't remember if I mentioned this or not, but my new job is at a chiropractic clinic. I mentioned to the doctor that I recently lost 50lbs and they were pretty interested in hearing the details. They've been very awesome and supportive so far. I'm secretly hoping that they'll bring IP into the office sometime when they witness me drop the last of my weight and maintain. This week the doctor took all of the staff out to lunch at a mexican place. The pickings were very slim for me but I managed and ordered a salad with chicken and had them leave out a few items to make it IP friendly. Everyone else indulged in chips, salsa, beans, rice, etc.... all covered in gooey sauces and left lunch in a carb coma. I on the other hand enjoyed a little less than half of a ginormous salad, had the rest boxed up to enjoy later and walked out perfectly happy. Everyone was impressed with my self control. The funny thing though is I really don't see it as having self control, this is just how I eat. It was no big deal. It's so funny how this diet changes you because at one time I would have look at this completely different and it would have taken huge amounts of will power to get through it, but now it's just second nature.

Welcome to all of the newbies this week! Congrats to all of you on your losses and NSVs this week. Wishing you all a wonderfully successful week.

Oh, I almost forgot! I made it into the 180's this week!! I had to change my weigh in day also since Monday no longer works with my new schedule. My next weigh in won't be until Thursday. The good thing is I should see a nice loss since it will be 10 days since my last weigh in.

I had the Cherry Jello last night and oh my was it sweet. In comparison to some IP products it does appear there maybe a gram or 2 more of sugar in a few products (I wish they were a little less but the $ saved might be worth the small risk). The directions also call for only 3 oz of boiling water... Based on the sweetness I think you could easily do 4-6 maybe.. i'll play w/ the Ounces but maybe I'm sensitive to sweetness too. Choc drink/pudding is good, also could use a little more water than what's recommended. So far so good, still in ketosis after using them.

NSV ALERT! Tried on a pair of jean capris that I haven't worn in at least a year and they fit and I didn't even have to take a deep breath to button them! :carrot:

And the scale finally ready in the 30's!!!!! I'm only 28 lbs away from my wedding weight and I was a size 14 for that and I remember the self confidence I had even at a size 14, what a difference that makes on the outside and the inside..... So exciting! I love this diet..

Someone was talking about not only TOM being weird on this program but also Ovulation... that is for sure. My DH and I are have been trying for about 8 months and so I'm charting OV Days and last month it pushed it back over a week so I think it may make a significant difference. This month I appear to be back to normal but I know based on a lot of posts that it can screw w/ your system for sure.

:dust: for Everyone!!!!

sillyputty 08-07-2010 01:11 PM

well just finished making a soup with some spinach all blended up... think now I can get all the veggies and salads down without feeling like I am eating soo much. Does it seem like inches are falling off in one or two areas rather than others? My waist is shrinking, but arms and calves are not... hmm time to lift wieghts I guess. Have a great week all!

Added benefits of IP

I just got back from a 3.5 mile walk/run before lunch. I wanted to get out earlier so I could cover more ground while it was cooler, but I had a lot to do this morning. So, after I worked out at the gym, drove to Leesburg to pick up a prescription, swung by the farmer’s market for produce, stopped at two grocery stores, came home to stow groceries, and responded to a PM on the boards, I geared up to hit the bike path.

I was about a mile out, running in my new (not baggy) tights when I heard a cyclist coming up behind me. He gave the requisite audible, “On your left” before he zipped by. He didn’t slow down at all, but when he got right up beside me, he said something. It took a few seconds for the words to register, and by the time I realized what he said, he’d just about disappeared from view.

At that point, I laughed out loud. It’s not every day a lean, 30-something athlete tells an old lady like me that she’s got a “great butt.” Made my day. :D

I love IP.

I'm just the opposite... my legs & arms are looking good, but my tummy & behind are still, well, a little disappointing... not that they haven't shrunk too, they have & I really am pleased that they have, it's just not enough!!!!!!!.. I have so much confidence in IP, though, I know those areas will soon catch up with my smaller parts... btw, lifting weights might or might not make your arms & legs smaller, but it will start to give them some amazing shape... I'm doing kettlebells for strength training & I'm lovin' what they've done for my arms & shoulders...

HA HA Love it Novak!!

Question--> My Aunt wants to check into IP. On the website you have to fill out a form to try and find a clinic close to you. I thought I would check on here and see if anyone knew of a clinic in or close to Aurora CO.
Thanks

OK... HOW?!!! At the end of my 4th week (today), I'm down 21.2 lbs, but only 3 total inches!! I'm measured on: one arm, chest, waist, hips, thigh..... so I guess if I double my arm measurement it's a little higher. How are people losing 20" in such little time?!!! Different measurements? Just bad luck?!!

I'm happy with the scale numbers, but want to see inches, too. I was really disappointed today that nothing moved but my hips. Ok, so I'm still happy about my hips being down 1/2".

WyoSun 08-07-2010 03:25 PM

A lot has to do with how you carry your weight. I have lost 12" around my waist, but only about 8" on my hips. That's over 5 months. I don't put much stock in my measurements anyway. There are 3 different people that measure and they all measure different. (not the exact same spot, some pull tighter, etc.) In the end I'll ask the coach to measure me for my final results. Not to discount losing the inches. It is huge, but when you have different people measuring it certainly is going to fluctuate from week to week. You will be able to tell on your clothes very soon.

You should be able to get a scale for under $40. Perhaps you could Google Taylor scales and use the description to Google similar scales.

Golfergirl67 08-07-2010 03:36 PM

Hi All, went into IP for weigh in on Monday and they have this new product called Collagene, it is wonderful and tastes like raspberry syrup....yummy. It is used in place of eating jello or pom drink. You take 1 Tbsp daily in replacement of these.

My scale is the Omron 514, which I got at Amazon. Several people on the boards have one, and I've been very happy with it. Not only does it do my weight and all the body composition metrics, it also tells me that my body is 19 years younger than it was when I started IP. :D

I love IP AND I love my scale.

Question--> My Aunt wants to check into IP. On the website you have to fill out a form to try and find a clinic close to you. I thought I would check on here and see if anyone knew of a clinic in or close to Aurora CO.
Thanks
Sheila

My clinic is in Arvada, CO (Alpine Wellness). A bit of a drive, but not too far if she can't find anything closer to Aurora.

That sounds very interesting, I have been having trouble with my nails breaking and can't seem to make the jelly often enough!! Will check it out when I go WI next time. Thanks for the info:)

Men do lose it faster!! yeah those IP Coaches are kinda useless!!

I bought mine at walmart- has many functions like you mentioned!!! It was about $40. I think it's called healthometer

Kudos to all the weigh losses, and inches lost!!!
