I don't think the sugar free jello is allowed because it is sweetened with aspartame. You can use knox if you're looking to make a rhubarb jam - that's what i did - it has no sugar, no aspartame and does have some protein. it will thicken the rhubarb and it is quite nice on a crepe.

re: the birthday cake for Jordanna - you can buy the IP chocolate pancake mix and make it into a muffin - you basically reduce the water and bake it - i don't have the correct amounts where i am right now but i'm sure someone else out there does. It's really good.

I think someone here said 90 or 100 days for your pancreas to reset. I can't find it in any of my IP written material or when I google it. I don't know. Anybody know who said it and where the info came from?
I did find this about insulin resistance & higher protein/lower carb diets on the internet:
Once blood sugar and insulin levels have returned to normal — usually about 1 to 3 months

pitakitten 04-21-2010 06:21 PM

hello, its my 3rd day

Hi everyone,

I am glad I found this group. I had joined a while back but never started the diet till this past monday so the 19th was my frist day. so far all I am feeling is starvation and lack of conentration. Reading some of the threads, I am thinking taht maybe its because I am not taking the salt intake very seriously. Could that be it or is this feeling of stupid competence in my head going to pass in a few days.

cheers (not that I can drink)

Great job on week one! Don't worry about every week. Just focus on following the program on a daily basis and the weeks will take care of themselves. I know it is hard to believe. The diet works great and even if you are having your time of month (TOM) it will be corrected in the week that follows. REMEMBER, the program is an average loss per week of 3 -5 pounds for women so, if one week is 6 and another is zero you are still averaging 3! Take it a meal at a time, a day at a time, or, sometimes a minute at a time but if you stay on the program, weigh ins will be just fine.

I wouldn't worry about keto sticks unless you see yourself starting to plateau when you aren't on TOM. The sticks are inexpensive to buy at a pharmacy if you want them but I went 3 months on the program before I felt a need to see if I was still in ketosis. (I had just started to add things like onion, tomatoes and green beans and wanted to see the result)

If you add processed foods keep in mind they are supposed to be ALL ZERO value not just zero carb and sugar. If you see zero sugar on a label, read the ingredients too. Anything under .5 g of sugar can be labeled zero even if it isn't. also avoid maltitol. It is a sugar alcohol so they can say zero sugar but, maltitol has the same glycemic index (effect to insulin) as table sugar. AND, bear in mind anything with fat or protein adds calories so, you could slow down a bit but stay in ketosis when you add a meat stick.

Last, watch for sodium intake. You don't want to slow down because the added sodium is causing water retention.

YOU MIGHT TRY: Prepare several chicken breast tenders from scratch. Grill, broil, or bake them. You can season them to taste like what you enjoy. Then keep a few handy for a food craving. it is added protein but it will be lean and appropriate for your program. It is always better to add an extra IP packet or protein item if it helps you avoid a cheat and falling out of ketosis.

YOU NEED to stay true to the program and in ketosis for 90 to 100 days to get the full benefit of the program - resetting your pancreas.

He's a healthy thriving crazy little boy!

Anyway what does this have to do with Ideal Protein well a few things actually:

1. I can't wait for all my family and friends to see me down 50+ lbs!
2. I need some serious willpower to get through all of this!! The food list is getting more and more amazing as the days go on...have I mentioned that both my parents and Hudson's tummy mummy are Red Seal Chefs?

I was packing up loot bags this morning and of course I picked out all my favorite candies to put in them...why would I do that to myself lol. Then I spent half an hour talking to Hudson's tummy mummy about what kind of cake, cupcakes and ice cream she's making for the party....suddenly my vanilla pudding coffee concoction didn't seem all that yummy!!

Sigh - Diet Gods grant me some willpower :)

J~ you'll do fine! I have all the faith in the world in you! I got through three kids birthdays all in two and a half weeks, If I can do three, you can do one!

I had my WI today. At the office, I lost 1.4, but at home I lost 2 lbs. I really thought I had lost more just by the way my clothes are fitting. Oh, well, maybe next week I'll have a bigger weight loss.

Hi! I said it. It is based on the info I got from my coach, my regional director, and from some other clinic information I researched.

DO NOT.... I repeat, DO NOT, skip your sodium!!! Do not skip any of your mineral supplements! You will feel horrible and with the way this diet works it could be a problem. At minimum if you are eliminating a lot of water and flushing those necessary electrolytes/minerals, you could pass out!

WHEN THE IP protocol sheets say COMPULSORY for oils, minerals, supplements, and water, there is a VERY good reason! Avoiding/neglecting them can cause minor impacts like headaches, constipation, fatigue, dizziness, aches, fogginess, passing out, to severe health problems. Another reason this diet is supposed to be medically monitored.

ON THE UP SIDE, you will lose a lot more when you stay hydrated and feel alot better to keeping your minerals/electrolytes balanced.

Week 6 weigh in

Weighed in today and lost 3.4 lbs:) I was happy with that. She also took my measurments which were way more exciting. Here they are...

- 5.5 chest
-5 waist
-3.5 hips
-1 arms
-2.75 thighs

17.75 inches lost and 25 lbs, also 3.4% body fat. I love Ideal Protein:carrot:

OK... have spent the last 2 hours trying to find where I read the pancreas info. I can't find it. Found a lot of other stuff, interesting studies on pancreas regeneration and things that indicate changes in medical studies at approx. 90 days but nothing specific to this.

I searched Dr Chanh's book too. Indications of healing of the pancreas but not a specific time frame.

I did find information on Dr. Chanh's website about Is ketosis dangerous and adverse side effects. Also found symptoms of ketosis in the Cleveland Clinic journal. Also, in his book is information about the importance of nutritional supplements.

http://www.trantiendiet.com/site/spip.php?article242

http://www.trantiendiet.com/site/spip.php?article244

"Symptoms of ketosis include general tiredness, abrupt or gradually increasing weakness, dizziness, headaches, confusion, abdominal pain, irritability, nausea and vomiting, sleep problems and bad breath." [Cleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine 68(2001): p.761]

Next time I see my coach, I will ask him what support he has for the 90 to 100 day thing and see if I can get a copy to post or a reference of some kind.
