I've been on Jenny Craig in the past, but dropped out due to the cost, even though I thought the food was pretty good.
I'm pretty sure that you have to at least join the current special (which right now is 6 weeks for $36) to be able to buy their food. They used to have specials such as 20 pounds for $20 (plus the cost of food, or course), so you might want to watch for that one, as it would be the cheapest way for you to try the menu items.
You could also ask the question on the boards at jennycraig.com, as their message boards are pretty active and people are really helpful. Most people really like the food; the expense is the major concern.
I don't know how the Jenny Craig centers compare, but I called them to get prices for Jenny Craig Direct, which ships the food to you. You are required to buy 2 weeks worth at a time. Jenny Craig has two options - shelf stable, and frozen. You have to buy 2 weeks worth at a time. The shelf stable version was about 199 for 2 weeks, including shipping, and the frozen option was 276 for 2 weeks. The Jenny Craig subscription fee varies, but the intro special is usually $36 for the first 6 weeks. You also need to buy fresh dairy, salads, etc.
If you go to their online site, they have a couple "sample packs" of their shelf stable items that you can try out without actually signing up. They are in their online store. They have an entree, a few of their snacks, etc. plus a day or two's sample menu-so you can get an idea of what you would be doing if you joined.
I personally think it is a nice risk-free way to try their food first without signing a contract.
I joined today. I had done it many years ago and had bought a lifetime membership back then. I like the food which is surprising because I am a "foodie" and like to cook.
I just have NO time and am have no energy or focus to plan meals, shop whatever. Right now I just want someone to do it for me.
I have two kids, full time job and am finishing grad school this semester. I really want to lose 50 lbs and am setting aside 6 months to do it in.
Let me know how it's going for you.
So far so good. Not hungry. Food is good and EASY. With my lifestyle, easy is the ticket for now.
Today:
BF French toast w/syrup and cup with assorted berries
snack: multvitamin bar. tastes like choc covered peanut butter.
lunch: pesto pizza. I'm from NY. Cant stand frozen pizza but if you like pizza on a 6" cracker...... salad with ranch dressing
snack: cheese curls --great!-- 1/2 c cantalope.
dinner: chicken fettucini alfredo. really tasty and filling.
tonight: an orange and maybe some berries with whipped cream.
I'm going to my 1st appointment Friday! They'll go over the plans, options & see if I can do the program on my budget.I plan on joining with the 20 pounds for $20.You have 90 days to use it.You can buy what you can afford at the centers. They prefer you buy all of your food from them to insure success, but they don't make it mandatory. At Jenny Craig clients buy between $50-$150 per week depending on what you buy. They say you can plan on around $100 of JC & $20 at the grocery for fruit/veggies & diary.
I will let you know what I find out.
I thought there would be more JC people here.
