Is diet coke really calorie free?

  • hey all....

i need ur opinion. Does diet coke really have 0 calories? i have googled this...but still can't say for sure . Some articles say its fattening while other advocate its benefits in the weight loss process.

Please lemme knnow what u think.....could drinking 3 diet cokes a day might be the reason my scale isn't moving. I do exercise for an hour and eat right

    Ciao!

  • no it's probably what you eating even if diet coke has some sort of calorie count if you added it all up it would equal the 3,000 some calories it takes to make a pound, my advice only weight your self once a week, and make sure your getting all of the water not pop you need
  • It does have not calories but you need to remember that it has sodium. So you may be retaining water. You need to check to see what else you are eating that has sodium in it. I try not to eat too much because it makes me retain all the water I drink. I hope that helps.
  • Actually, Coca-Cola answers those questions on the FAQ page of their Diet Coke website.

An 8 oz serving has a fraction of one calorie, which is derived from aspartame (or Splenda, if you're buying the new version - I still prefer the old one myself), caramel coloring, and citric acid.

As far as the sodium - according to the can right here on my desk a 12 oz can of Diet Coke contains 40 mg of sodium - that's low IMO. (I found this sodium chart on a Google search, just as a point of reference).

Back in July, I posted about some interesting studies regarding fluid intake, as well as my personal opinion on why some people believe that Diet Coke causes weight gain. Check it out

Diet Coke isn't the 'devil' that so many people make it out to be...so enjoy!
  • As MrsJim points to, there was some recent research that was linking diet sodas with weight gain - but IMO it's hard to draw a link between the two. I believe some people think that drinking diet drinks gives them license to eat anything...
  • hmm...i agree.

i have been trying to convince a friend that drinking diet sodas with a 5 course meal doesn't make it any less fattening....sigh....i am gonna keep trying...
  • Does retaining water mean like keeping water in your body so you have water weight or something?
