5 pounds at a time

Ok. Here I am again, back after some months. I did well earlier this year at losing some weight, got pretty excited as I thought I was nearing the point of trying to actively conceive my first child and BAM!!! I find out I need surgery to remove fibroids and then a double whammy when I found out the surgery was more extensive than originally thought.

But anyway, here I am almost 6 weeks post op and the dr has released me to do light exercise (walking). I have been making all sorts of dietary changes to prevent those Devils from growing back but I am just ready to start really tracking again. Writing things down for accountability works great for me.

So here I go again. Focusing on smaller goals at a time now. I just weighed myself and today I am 165.6 lbs. So instead of focusing on my ultimate goal, I will just focus on 5 lb goals, more gratifying. All in all I would like to get 15-20 pounds off before trying to conceive so...

HERE is where I will do it!

I better get a few BEFORE pics so that I can see the progress not only on the scale but in pictures.

We all know those last 10-20 pounds can be a beast and I know that with limited exercise capabilities this will be challenging, but I'm up for it.

How I plan to get there.. Paying attention to calories in/out. I love my polar activity tracker. When I really tracked my food along with my activity, I did pretty well with losing a pound or two a week. I will record things here.

Start weight: 165.6

Goal #1: 160.6

You ready ?

TheSatinPumpkin 11-16-2014 08:36 PM

Rock It!

Mrs Snark 11-17-2014 08:03 AM

Get it, girl! We're ready!

You ready?!? :)

ivanabskinny 11-17-2014 03:27 PM

I love the idea of 5 lb goals. Best of luck

BUNDLEOFJOY 11-17-2014 08:00 PM

Hi !!! Wow.. I am excited to see you gals dropped by!:D

Alrighty!! I got my groceries, got my treadmill pulled out (for dr approved light walking) and a stretching exercise video that I think will be gentle enough to not hurt my recovery.

Cooked up some leafy green vegetables to make sure I'm including veggies in my meals and ....it's showtime!

Activity tracker ...check!
Food log ...check!

I just threw out the foods that will keep me from reaching my goals. No point in those things sitting in the cabinet calling my name everyday. No thank you! Since my energy is not 100%, I plan to get my exercise in early.

Tomorrow I will be back with my meals and exercise. Preparation is key. I am glad I took time yesterday and today to get things in order.

Time to burn this first 5 pounds off!

Now...

I'm Ready!

Mrs Snark 11-18-2014 07:29 AM

Nice, sounds like you are all set up and ready to go!

Go You, Go You, Go You!

:cheer2:

BUNDLEOFJOY 11-18-2014 08:49 AM

Good Morning !!!

Off today so able to sleep in a little.

8:45 am - 164.8 pounds

Time to go do a little exercise ☺️ I'll be back!

Exercise- Ttapp - basic plus workout.

Had a little soreness but felt better later after some Advil.

Ate a egg and veggie cheese sandwich topped with mixed greens for Brunch. It was delicious!

Was out longer than I thought for an appointment today so by the time I got home, I was hungry and it was dinner time. The doctor called to tell me that I need to up my iron intake ASAP because of low blood count which explains my tiredness. I told her I'd up my iron pills, eat dark leafy greens, beans, and a serving of black strap molasses/daily.

Her words, "Eat a couple hamburgers.."

I told her that I would since I don't eat meat that often, so I went and found some organic hamburgers at my local organic market and had one for dinner with kale and bean chips. Pretty good. I will do what ever I have to do get my blood count up. This is definitely important! Cals today ~ 1500.

Time for bed. I will be looking through a couple of recipe books so that I can get some ideas of some new things I can cook. I bought some easy frozen type meals to take my mind from worrying about extensive food prep at this point.

Well, off to go and dream about those delicious new meals.

Until tomorrow ...

BUNDLEOFJOY 11-18-2014 08:59 AM

MRS SNARK!!!

I quickly clicked on your blog link and OH MY GOSH!!! You have done an amazing job!! Such a beauty! Love the progress pictures ! See that's why before and after pictures are so important to remind you of how great you're doing. I did this years ago and it was so important because sometimes I'd look down and swear I didn't see progress, and then I'd pull out my pictures and BAM!! Undeniable progression !

Can't wait to read your blog later !

Ok, now I'm off to take my BEFORE PICS and THEN exercise! Thanks for the reminder :D!

Mrs Snark 11-19-2014 02:07 PM

Thanks so much for the nice compliments, you're too kind! I agree that progress pictures are so helpful, and while I was less than thrilled when I took the first one, I was glad I had done it. I'm glad you're going to take them!

Hope you day went well!

BUNDLEOFJOY 11-20-2014 10:10 PM

Yesterday I got my first walk on the treadmill in. Slow and steady. Just 30 minutes but was glad to get it in. Really sucks to see the minimal calories burned but hey, I'm not running anymore so I have to just deal with it and cut the Cals from my food. Boooo!

Had some minor cramping last night but I will keep at it! ;)

On to today -

This morning sipped on delicious herbal tea until I felt hungry.

Brunch was a delicious pumpkin smoothie with hemp protein and greens
Banana chips for snack
Dinner: 1 egg /3 white omelette with Go Veggie cheese and greens
Croissant

No exercise for me today. Every other day for now until I build my strength up. Every step is a step closer to my goal!

Mrs Snark 11-21-2014 09:06 AM

Great job! I'm a big fan of the treadmill and I think walking is overall excellent for your health!

Your herbal tea reminded me that I have some nice peach herbal tea in the cabinet that would be good this afternoon! Yum!

BUNDLEOFJOY 11-22-2014 09:22 AM

Gooooood Morning!!!!!!

Haven't even got up to wash my face yet but I'm here posting before the day gets crazy!! Got a few things on my mind that I have to post!

1) first things first, I now this may sound crazy but I think I need to shock my body for at least 1-3 days to just get the weight loss moving. I can do this a couple of ways but the best way for he would just be to "cycle" my calories a little. What I mean is, take my calories down a notch for a couple of day and then just bring them back up to the appropriate level. Ive done a version of this before when I needed to drop a few EL BEEEES (lbs..lol) but I would just create the deficit with my exercise. But for now, while I'm only burning 100 damn calories - obviously that method ain't happening.

So I will really tighten up on my calories. Eyeballing them was ok before but I think I am going to really have to strictly measure and post now that I don't have high intensity exercise to reign things in. It's allllll good. Adjustments, adjustments. Just keep tweaking the h*ll out of the plan until it's your OWN and it works for you. ;)

2) Timing of meals - no, I'm not trying to have SET timing but as far as eating later in the night time hours --- NO GOOD! Sometimes I feel snacky at night but it's not true hunger and I must cut that out. I'm not eating twinkles and chips or anything but it doesn't matter. I feel better in the morning when I don't eat close to bed time. Plus I know I loser faster and see a definite change in my belly when I cut out the lip smacking before bed. I know what it is though... If I have a snack, I can go to sleep faster and I think that's why I do it too, but this will be cut out. Let's start working on that today!! Definitely no eating within 2 hours of bed time, but will work up to longer than that. It would be awesome to just say that I don't eat after 7pm and call it a day but I'll work on it. I just feel icky in the morning when I do that. My tummy is just not happy with it. So I must stop it.

Well that's about it for now, but I had to get that out. I just feel like I need to step my game up to get the ball rolling a little faster. I have to let my body know what the heck we're doing here ...lol. In the past, exercise just played such a huge role ...I just FELT more like I was in "weight loss" mode after a good run. It not only made me feel like I was in the midst of dropping weight, but also curbed my appetite as well. It's a feeling that's hard to explain but anyway I can make this happen with just walking for now but I have to tighten up on the food and that's exactly what I intend to do ! I'll start posting more meals but I'll warn you that I am a strange eater, but I just do what works for me.

So this past week was the Pre-Game Show... It was good. Just got me thinking ALOT... Revising the game plan... Ain't nothing wrong with that.

All I know is - WE'RE GOING TO WIN!

Let's do it ;)

Mrs Snark 11-22-2014 09:27 AM

Alot of people do calorie cycling, or intermittent fasting, and find it very useful and feel great on it. I think you know what's good for YOU. So do your thang.

I'm interested to see what your version of "strange eater" will be. I feel like I am a bit of a strange eater as well, so I'll compare for strangeness. :)

BUNDLEOFJOY 11-22-2014 09:28 AM

164.8... Holding steady

Yea I'm trying to see 163 like tomorrow or Monday and I'm not playing around. refer to my last post for the game plan. I mean helllllllo, my body needs to at least let go off some excess water weight - Sheeeesh!

No worries, We (me and you - all of you Lovelies who are on this same journey ;) ) will make that happen.

Will be back throughout the day to update. That may work better.

Brunch egg and veggie cheese on rice toast with greens

Dinner - steak sandwich (trying my best to eat red meat at least twice a week u til I get this iron deficiency under control

I did not eat after 730pm. Went to bed around 2am. I wasn't hungry but did think about snack. Slept pretty good :) Gotta keep this up!

Thanks for hanging around Mrs. Snark!

And if I have time here and there I will take a picture of a few of my "meals."
They really aren't that strange to me but to others they are sometimes a little odd. Lol

BUNDLEOFJOY 11-23-2014 11:27 AM

Ok. I'm up ready to make a list of things that I think I may need this week. Definitely want to keep my dietary fat down this week to see if that helps Shake things up so maybe I will incorporate more beans this week. This beans will help with the iron deficiency. I think I will incorporate quinoa, beans, w/ veggies, and maybe some different kinds of rice into my diet this week. I bought these things before my surgery so may as well get to cooking. Gotta go pick up some more dark leafy greens from the organic store.

Maybe I will look up a recipe now! Yes, definitely a good idea. We need a little more structure this week! I will at least worry about Monday - Wednesday right now. Ok. Off for some herbal tea and some possible recipe ideas. Will be back!

Beka 11-23-2014 03:49 PM

I love the idea of 5 lb goals, especially when you're so close to your final goal! I'm also about 20 lb from my (right now) goal and I certainly celebrate every 5 lb loss!

Oooooh! I see you are Soooo close to your goal weight too! We can do this! ...5lb little pounds at a time !

The last 20lbs come off so easy for Some but can be a challenge for others. For me, I think my body likes it around 160. If I don't watch my weight at all i think it would just stay right around that SET POINT. Grrr! But I'm NOT having it. 150's here I come :)

Beka 11-24-2014 08:27 AM

My goals have changed a few times. I guess that's pretty normal. When I was 260, 230 felt impossible! Then, I just wanted "onederland"... I'd be happy with 199. And then I wanted to no longer be "obese" (184.9). And then I wanted to be my driver's license weight from ten years earlier (180). Once I reached that, I set my new goal to 160 which would be a 100 lb loss, but the top of the "healthy" range for me is 155... So that's the current goal.

Once I get there, or close, who knows if I will want to continue or start maintenance. In any case, I'm happy with myself now and I want to continue ENJOYING THE JOURNEY to fitness.

My weight loss was slow (over the course of 2 years), so I'm not in any hurry.

BUNDLEOFJOY 11-24-2014 10:18 PM

I am so so happy!! I've been LOST without my activity tracker the last few days. I had the tracker but could not find the darn charger, but YES OH YES, I found it! Now I can track my calories eaten vs calories burned accurately. I'm just weird like that. I'm a numbers person and love to see exactly what I am doing so I know exactly why I'm losing ( or not). I'm charging this bad boy up now. Can't wait till tomorrow. I am almost tempted to go to the gym. All I know is - I want to burn more than 100 calories, so tomorrow, with my activity tracker and heart rate monitor on my body, I will either increase that incline or walk long enough that I at least burn 300 calories. To be honest, I really want to burn 500 but I'll just see how I feel tomorrow. Im greedy like that. I want it all. I want my success now! I'm definitely not trying to compromise my healing from my surgery tho.. I will just listen to my body and go from there but I'm just so pumped about my little polar tracker. Love that thing!

So yesterday I went and bought a plethora of teas ..oolong, mint teas, raspberry leaf, and some flavored green teas. I am doing so well saying NO to coffee. I think the teas (certain ones) help with my appetite as well. Another plus!

I didn't find a recipe I wanted to make. Instead I bought a couple cans of Amy's Kitchen Chili because I had a taste for some of that. While I was in the store I was thinking that maybe I should pick up a few of her other meals and just have 1 of those on the days where I have no idea of what to eat. That would probably help a lot actually..just have one of those for lunch or dinner.

Tomorrow, I think I may pick up an eggplant to make a eggplant sandwich. Has anyone had that from cheesecake factory? So delicious. It has eggplant, roasted red pepper, red onion tiled with mozzarella cheese and garlic mayonnaise. I should attempt to duplicate it! I love doing that. I can make that sandwich relatively low calorie ...well at least lower than the cheesecake factory's! It's on.

Today long work day but I'm off for the holiday starting timortow, so I am hoping and praying I can get this scale moving this week. :D

Mrs Snark 11-26-2014 11:51 AM

I loooove Amy's chili, om nom nom nom nom! I eat alot of Amy's meals because there are a fair selection of vegan options and all of them taste great!

Glad you found your polar tracker, very exciting!

Have a great Thanksgiving!

BUNDLEOFJOY 11-26-2014 09:16 PM

So it's the day before Thanksgiving! A lot going on but had to check in...

Tuesday -
Exercise - treadmill walk with inclines (yes) - 60 minutes
Calories burned - 451

Food eaten:
Cup of pineapple chunks
Pre-made salad I picked up while shopping at Trader Joes
10 gluten free ginger snaps also found at trader joes.
2 oz rotisserie w/stuffing and kale
70% Dark chocolate with sea salt and almond

So I didn't track my exact calories in the midst of getting ready for the holiday but Don't worry, I will after the holiday :)

Today, I got on the treadmill again. 45 minutes, 400 calories burned. This is good, huh? Not the 100 measly calories Ive been burning. I don't plan on cooking a lot tomorrow and don't really want to splurge too much so Im not too worried about overindulgence. I say that now, and then my aunt will come over with a 7up pound cake and all h*** will break lose :stress:

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

I love Amy too! Im so uninspired right now to cook at all, that I toyed with eating mostly Amy's meals ! Lol. I'm just sooo tired all the time!

But instead, I will try to cook up all the quinoa, beans, forbidden rice, and veggies I already have and make some thangs happen!!! :^: Whew! Let me go run and watch the Food network to get inspired!

Happy Thanksgiving, Mrs. Snark!

BUNDLEOFJOY 12-03-2014 06:41 AM

Just checking in :). Feeling pretty good. Thanksgiving went ok. No 7 up pound cake disasters so everything was lovely. Now that my family has left, I will have more time to post. TOM is going away so I think I will weighin Friday or Saturday morning for the official checkin. Right now, just cutting back on the carbs and trying to get my protein up a little more.

Brought a salmon cake and a protein bar to work today. Plan to get in the gym this evening. Saw one of my sisters over the holiday and she noticed she was gaining weight so she challenged me to lose 15 pounds by the end of the year. Lol! Of course this is a big goal, not unaccomplishable because We've both done that sucessfully before but obviously we are just motivating each other to push harder that's all. Any weight that I lose I will be absolutely ecstatic about.

I'm still focusing on 5 lbs at a time and I'm hoping to see 161 this weekend ! The first 5 lbs needs to be gone ASAP! No time to play around, this mama is trying to have a baby next year!

Mrs Snark 12-03-2014 11:54 AM

Glad you had a nice holiday! I think having a buddy (and a sister would be a great buddy!) to encourage you and egg you on is great motivation!

I can't believe we are already firmly in December! Yikes!

BUNDLEOFJOY 12-06-2014 07:58 AM

162.8

I can dig it...

Down 3 pounds, about 2 pounds away from the first goal and almost out of the 160's! Yea, it's starting to get a little stuffy in here! Time to say good bye. I must push harder to get out of here!

After thanksgiving, I backed off the carbs so to get rid of any left over cravings. I bought a bunch of salmon because that was what I was craving and cooked up salmon patties. This week, I had salmon patties with lemon dill tartar or eggs for brunch and dinner Pretty much everyday. I just ate what I craved. Simple!

Walking for 1 hour a day burning roughly 400 calories. I've been doing most of my exercise at home versus going to the gym, but I'm thinking it may be time to get a little weight training in there as well or at least Start back doing my TTAP videos for some toning. I can see my waist trying to come back. ;) that's what I'm talking about! PROGRESS!

BUNDLEOFJOY 12-06-2014 06:13 PM

2 cups kale spinach lasagna - Rice toast

Blueberry wine

Cals eaten today 1427

Almost time for bed. Trying to get in bed early tonight so I can get up early to exercise before work. I can just feel the success coming :D

I NEED to see 150s this week. Bottom line !

Mrs Snark 12-08-2014 09:59 AM

So close to the 150s, I can see it coming down the tracks, BEEP BEEP! here it comes! :)

BUNDLEOFJOY 12-14-2014 09:31 AM

Wow! I really got to check in more than once a week! I've been so darn busy, I haven't had a lot of ME TIME. That's about to change starting today! I have a running list of things that I have been trying to get done ! Grrrr! But anyway, this week was an awesome exercise week. I was waking up at 330am to exercise before work. Yes ma'am..330am! I just wanted to make sure it was done before the day got hectic. Crazy, I know! As I increased my exercise I definitely have been sore near my incision site from surgery but I guess that's normal.

So my DH comes home and tells me he wants to do a food/exercise plan with me.:D. Okayyyyyyyy! I have a book for every food plan and exercise plan known to man. I got them all! Atkins, Protein Power, Dukan, Smoothie Diet, Jillian Michael's Making the Cut, Fat Flush, 4 day diet, Fat Smash, Fat Smash Extreme, Juicing, Power Eating, ...whew.., I will stop there. Well anyway, we have done a few "detox" / " get your a** back on track" type of plans to jumpstart weight loss and that's what he wants to do. He's not even really overweight, but he wants a flat stomach, so he's motivated . I think it's great! Just another motivator to melt this fat off me! I don't have to watch him eating food i can't have right now. Score!

He wants to do a plan that will last roughly 3-4 weeks..right into the new year. We did a Smoothie plan earlier this year to really promote more fruits and veggies in our diets and we loved that. Actually we still do smoothies now. I've been reading a book called Trim Healthy Mama which sounds like it May be good for maintenance. So I'll keep reading to see how I feel later.

It was cute seeing him rummage through all my health and fitness books. All of a sudden, he saw "lose up to 15 pounds in 3 weeks" and says THIS ONE!

It was a Fat Smash book. I wish there were more books out there that had specific meals written out like this one. As long as there's isn't a bunch of crazy cooking involved, I'm in. If anyone has any suggestions, let me know! On this plan, we can eat the same stuff (he'll just eat more obviously) and we can do this together ! So now I have an official partner !

This plan is old! I have to re -read the book to remember everything but it's really just healthy eating. But the portions are limited. That's what I remember anyway. When I did this plan when it first came out, I remember getting great results in s short period of time. Afterward, I was used to eating multiple meals a day so I transitioned very easily. Just add more of the foods back, but still eat multiple times a day to keep your metabolism going. Add weight training with the cardio and I maintained that weight for a long time actually. So I guess I should thank DH for stumbling on it. ..no not yet... ;)

Anyway, This will be different than what I've been doing because right now, I just eat when hungry and sometimes that's only 2 times a day ...and a snack. Maybe this will help. I'm hoping it has a lot of anti-inflammatory foods on the plan because I was really going to start looking into those type of foods to assist with my inflammation / help my uterus shrink down to the correct size. It was the size of a 5 month pregnancy before surgery, and since my surgery was so extensive the Dr said it would take a while to get back to normal size.
So why not eat foods that may help...anti-inflammatory foods, ya know ?
Well that's what Ive been thinking !

See, this is why I need to make time for ME! I have written a novel because I haven't had time to post. This is my first day this week that I get to lay in bed. So I was excited to update here. I will weighin and all that Jazz later. For now, I guess I will read this plan again to get myself reacquainted.

BUNDLEOFJOY 12-14-2014 10:03 AM

What. The. H!!!

What is going on here!my DH and I just got up and weighed in for the start of the plan. Reminder, I pretty much did the most exercise I have done since surgery this week and the FRIGGIN scale just said - 167.2

167.2?

Are you kidding me? Is this some sick joke?

My eyes saw a treadmill every morning by 350am and this is the thanks I get ? Wow, I could eat whatever I want, not monitor calories and would have done better.

Oh my! Ok ok, I must regroup. I did have an increase in sodium yesterday but ...

Obviously I'm a little speechless right now.

Im off to go take pics and compare them to my other ones from a few weeks ago.

This is going to make me want to weigh daily or at least a few times a week so I can monitor things.

Somebody hold me.

BUNDLEOFJOY 12-14-2014 11:00 AM

Day 1 of 21 - 167.2 :(

10:45 - 1 hard boiled egg and a scoop of green superfood in water

Running out the door for errands. I have to get in 55 minutes of cardio sometime today.

1:00 - reduced fat cheese crackers. Don't worry watching the sodium
Heading to grocery store for veggie salad after my workout. Downing water ;)

5:00 - Kale salad

6:30 - Red pepper / Orange pepper slices with feta fill dip

1 glass of blueberry wine

Black beans and sautéed spinach

1 cup rice chex

Exercise - 60 minutes

Mrs Snark 12-14-2014 12:47 PM

Sodium, check. A bunch of exercise, check. Both can wildly affect the scale with water weight. So don't worry so much, it sounds like you KNOW you've been on plan, so this is where you exercise your MIND, and don't allow the scale to mess with your head. The mental is as important as the physical. :)

You got this.

Up early. Actually posting from the gym. :)

Almost in the 150's!!! I'm claiming it this week!

Ok. Off to hit some weights ! My dr cleared me last week for light weight training so time to up the ante! Bye bye jiggly arms.

Got a delicious green smoothie ready when I get home. Sorry I wasn't around last week. So busy with the holiday and Drs appt.

And thank you Ms Snark for checking on me. You are part of my motivation because I know someone is watching ! ;-)
