I ask because I am curious about insurance paying. It will if it is a diabetic drug but not if a weight loss drug from what I understand.

Its both. Its an appetite suppressant, and it also lowers blood glucose in a weight-loss independent manner. It can be prescribed for both indications.

It's only approved for weight loss. It's a controlled substance. IF insurance will pay for it, it will probably require prior approval, step therapy, or both.
