Yes Alice - up 2.75 lbs. I made a mistake, on Sat. I had too much of a free day, it would have been ok if I'd stopped there. But on Sun. it was my mother's b'day, I ate lunch off and then had birthday pie w/ her. Well, even that might have been excusable but last night, after a perfect day, I lost it. I had a hamburger and some animal crackers w/ peanut butter. I was feeling bored and lonely. On Sun. I didn't want to weigh after my free day and then I didn't want to weigh Mon. because of the birthday dinner. I think if I'd gone ahead and weighed and faced the music it might have helped me stay in check. SO, now we'll see if it is fat or water, if it will take me all week to lose it back?

On Sept. 29 it will be my anniversary for starting BFL. W/ the lbs. gained this weekend I have lost a grand total of 16 lbs. this year. I am setting a goal to have lost 25 lbs. on that date. It is going to take some doing, no free days and upping my cardio and not missing any workouts. I am setting this lofty goal because it would mean so much to me to accomplish at least that. I feel like I could have done so much better this year. I will NOT reach my under 200 goal no matter what I do for 2003. But, it is still my goal for say May of 2004. Just got to carry on.

aleka 09-02-2003 09:48 AM

ledom, losing 16 lbs. in a year is still quite a goal to achieve. :bravo: I know you will achieve your 25 lb. goal just hang in there. We all have to have one of those days where you just eat what you want, then dust ourselves off and start fresh.

judi 09-02-2003 08:27 PM

Tuesday

Ledom, ALICE IS RIGHT!!! Losing 16 pounds IS an amazing achievement!!!

I made that mashed cauliflower instead of potatoes last night for dinner and the DH said he even liked it better...well, I wouldn't go that far but it was pretty good.

It was a warm day here but it really seems like fall. That is OK though, it is a record for the least amount of rain for us.

ledom 09-03-2003 08:05 AM

Alice and Judi - thanks for your kind words. Well, I will take it - I just know I could have done better. Anyway, I am down 1.50 lbs. this a.m. so I am recovering from the weekend.

Your cauliflower dish reminds me of the one thing I made and enjoyed on Diet Center years ago. It was a tofu/cauliflower "potato" salad. It was really good.

Do you girls ever buy broccoli slaw at the grocer's. I have just discovered it and love it. It is so crunchy. It has made salad making so easy for me. I buy spring mix lettuces, top it w/ the b.slaw and turkey, put on spicy mustard, udo's and red wine vinegar and I am ready to go. No chopping, no muss, and no carbs!

4myloves 09-03-2003 09:21 AM

Once again, I miss a few days posting, and you ladies run off and leave me in the dust!!! :)

I did indeed get the job that I interviewed for last week! I start on October 6th. Sometime between now and then I have to find a place to live in southern Arkansas. I thought for certain it'd be Texarkana, but now I'm also looking at Hope and Magnolia. Ledom, do you know anything about those areas?

I had lost 2 pounds at my WW weigh-in last night. Yea. This week I'm going to try it actually writing down what I eat and see how I do! On Monday, I started my walking routine again. It's been raining off and on here, and it's still HUMID, so I've been using Leslie's 2-mile tape.

I'm glad you all sound as if you're doing well! Ledom, go back and read the advice you gave me when I was upset about how much I had gotten up to! If I'd lost 16 pounds over the last year, I'd be a lot happier now!!

Alice, hope you're enjoying your fall weather!!!

Judi--good luck on South Beach! There's a thread somewhere on the fourm "Fat Chicks on the Beach" that you should check out!

I'll check in later!

Cheryl

Good morning,

I had my physical this morning. Everything seems to be ok. I can't remember if I mentioned in any of my posts a few weeks back that my sinuses were acting up and I was having a problem breathing. Well...it has cleared up quite a lot, but I had her check it out anyway. I have an allergy as opposed to a sinus infection. She said since it happened while we had those 2 weeks of humidity and torrential rain, I am probably allergic to mold. So...she gave me some Allegra to try and some sort of nasal spray. I have to see her again in 3 weeks to see how everything is going.

Cheryl, congratulations on your 2 lb. loss and getting the job. :cp: When will you start looking for a place to live? You must be so excited about your new job and moving someplace new. Good luck to you. I love Leslie Sansone's walking tapes. I have a whole library full of them. My favorite are WATP with the weighted balls. I do the 2 mile walk whenever the weather is awful.

ledom, congratulations on your weight loss! :high: Hope that you're feeling better about things. I buy that broccoli slaw all the time. During the winter I make a vegetable soup in the crockpot that calls for coleslaw mix, and I always use the broccoli slaw. I also use it when I make coleslaw. It's delicious.

judi, I started using cauliflower as mashed potatoes when I was Somersizing and I love it. Another thing I do is make "potato" salad using cauliflower, celery, hard boiled eggs, mayo, and some spices. I tried making "hash browns" with the cauliflower, it was good, but it stunk up the kitchen. :snooty: Another thing that is good for mashed potatoes, if you can find it, is celery root. I can find it in only 1 grocery store, and it's where the fresh ginger and other root vegetables are found. It's rather a narly looking thing, but you peel it like a potato, steam or boil it, then mash it. I kind of like it better than the cauliflower because it has the consistancy of mashed potatoes.

Have a great day ladies

ledom 09-04-2003 09:10 AM

Cheryl, I don't have any idea what it is like to live in either of those 3 towns. I hear Magnolia is pretty and many of the old buildings have been restored. Texarkana is the largest so you would find more things to do. Congratulations on getting the job - that's wonderful!

Not much new here. Scale inching downward again. I am wondering if I can forgo a freeday this week? There is a blip on my graph for the last two weekends, maybe my goal is to at least flatline this weekend.

Not much new - I'm TOO busy trying to keep up w/ work!

judi 09-06-2003 08:47 AM

Goodmorning!

Good job on the weight loss Cheryl.

Glad everything is ok with your check up Alice, always a good feeling, eh? I hope the sinus thing clears up.:(

Ledom, I saw UDO's in our health food store, next trip I am going to pick it up. Sorry to hear you are so busy.

Well, I am starting week 2 of South Beach. I lost 5 pounds but it is always that same 5 pounds.:p This week should take me into the new fat range...I calculated out how many weeks it would take to break thru 200 Ledom and it will take 49 weeks (WAHHH:fr: ) at 2811 calories and by adding a brisk walk (4.5 for 30 minutes) I could lose the weight in 38 weeks. Blahhhh!! Also I can't walk 4.5 mph, the best I can do is 2.5mph, maybe 3 mph.

We are having some friends over for brunch this morning, I am making a seafood quiche, potato's obrien, croissants, a jelled ambrosia salad and lemon poppy seed loaf...all diet food:s: (I wish)

My D had an ultrasound and they saw the baby which was quite a neat experience, but they wouldn't let them take pictures with their digital camera.

The weather has been glorious but we can't telax and enjoy here because of the concern for fires. All the brush is like tinder. All back country travel is banned and most parks and trails are closed.

That is about all the news here. Everyone enjoy the weekend:)

aleka 09-06-2003 11:28 AM

Saturday!

In the wee hrs. of Thurs. morning we had a terrible thunder storm which knocked out our cable and internet service. The cable co. supplies both. We got our TV back later that same day, but it took them a bit longer to locate and fix the internet service. We didn't get that back until early evening on Friday.

judi, congratulations on your 5 lb loss!! :high: Glad that Phase 1 on SB Diet is working well for you. Phase 1 did not go so well with me. Eating just protein for breakfast makes me sort of sick to my stomach. So, I've just decided to go directly to Phase 2.
I saw a news story not too long ago about all the fires in your neck of the woods. Is there a possibility of any beneficial rain?
Your D & BF must have been thrilled to see the ultrasound. The picture would have been a nice keepsake to have. Hope you had a good brunch. The menu sounds very dietlike.

ledom, glad the scale is inching downward. :cp: Did you skip your free day this week?

Hi Cheryl

Have a great weekend!!

judi 09-08-2003 07:43 PM

Good afternoon!

Alice, we did have a glorious rain for a couple of days which did help. I never thought I would be happy to see rain.

I have added in blueberries to the diet a week early. I shouldn't have them until week 2. I see former president Clinton lost 30 pounds on the diet. Way to go Bill!

The DH has gone back to university to take Hebrew...at 55 years old. I am so proud of him, he will go twice a week. He is out there registering with all the young things, he phoned me and told me a few oldsters (er, aged like fine wine) are taking classes too. His classes start tomorrow, I took Hebrew but don't remember anything except it was hard and I really didn't want to take it but had to for my degree. He wants to and has learnt a bunch on his own this summer already. We went to Israel on our honeymoon and want to go there again. IT would be so great, this time we won't be distracted by er, "other" things and would really be able to look at the biblical places.

I am making a barley, mushroom and onion soup today. It is a kind of cold and grey day so it is a good soup day.

Not too much new, I went way OFFF and felt sick on Sat. I didn't even enjoy it. When will I learn???:?:

How is school going for your D, Ledom?

Hello the Cheryls!

ledom 09-09-2003 07:26 AM

Hey Girls,

First off this weekend was the 1 month (4 week) anniversary of my newest challenge that I have started calling the Do or Die Challenge. It is the challenge that I am graphing my weight. Anyway I am down 8.50 lbs. I have high hopes for the next month. I am ready to start winning this game! I'm noticing a pattern in my graph - weekends stall my progress! I am trying to tone down freeday. Of course I could eliminate it but I just wonder if I wouldn't be setting myself up for a binge later in the week. Must figure this out.

judi, thanks for asking about D. She has gotten this year off to a great start, she seems to be having a lot of fun. She has decided on a theatre major - she loves it so if she's happy that makes me happy. I have to tell you the life of an actress doesn't appeal to me, so much rejection. She tried out for a play and didn't get a part though she got a call back and was pleased w/ her audition. She was so disappointed, for a whole day anyway. I thought it was emotional rollercoaster just being a bystander but I am going to have to learn how to deal as it is part of the lifestyle. I am proud of her. She is excited because their group is planning a nyc trip now.

Big weekend coming up - the Lucinda concert on Mon. and before that a kayaking weekend w/ the state canoe club.

Still busy w/ school but really getting settled in. Our first gallery exhibit opens today. It is a good one, a collection of lithographs by Native American artist R.C.Gorman.

aleka 09-09-2003 09:45 AM

Good morning....

Sunday DH & I were discussing taking down a dead Birch Tree at the end of our driveway. He said he'd take it down someday. Well...someday arrived Monday afternoon when part of the tree fell onto our driveway. We both heard a thud and went out to investigate. He got out his chain saw, cut down the tree, and we cleaned up the mess in our road and our driveway. When he cut down the tree he disturbed a bat :p that was sleeping. Talk about a rude awakening! After the bat shook the cobwebs out of his/her brain he/she flew into the woods across from our house.

ledom, congratulations on your weight loss!!! That is really impressive!:high: You are really doing fantastic. You will figure out what you want to do about the free day. Personally, I would need the free day as something to look forward to. That's wonderful about your D wanting to major in theater. Whenever my GF & I go to the summer theater we see college kids majoring in theater perform. They are really very talented. I wish her the best of luck. How did the exhibit go?

judi, glad that you did get some rain. Did it help at all with the fire situation? I did hear that it was rumored that Bill & Hilliary Clinton were doing the SB Diet. Good for your DH for tackling Hebrew. It keeps your brain active to learn new things. Hope he does well in his class. Sat. I made homemade vegetable soup, the 0 pt. soup I made when I was on WW. Now that fall is fast approaching I have the craving to make more soups and stews. There is something about fall.....

Cheryl, how is WW going for you? Do you like the new flex-points?

Have a great day ladies.

4myloves 09-10-2003 01:25 PM

Hey ladies!

My, what interesting lives we've all been having lately!!!

Alice--the new WW system seems pretty much like the old one to me--they've just raised everyone's points ranges and disguesed it as a new program :)

I walked religeously last week, and wrote down (almost) everything I ate and GAINED 2 pounds! Go figure. I am very disgusted! Still walking and writing everything (for real this time) down, though. Eventually something's gotta give!

Busy busy busy at work......Seems like since everyone found out I'm leaving, they're trying to cram about 6 months worth of work into the month I have left! Love it!

Take care--
Cheryl

Thursday

Goodmorning!

Are you looking forward to leaving Cheryl?

Ledom, way to go on the weight loss:smug:  After my brunch last Sat. I am having trouble staying on the straight and narrow.

I am glad your D. has found something she loves, that is wonderful. She will experience more excitement and fun than rejection so you don't worry, mom.

Glad there wasn't anything near the tree like your parked car, Alice! Poor bat though! We have alders here and they sometimes are blown down. Yes, the fire situation was helped by the rain as was the water level for drinking water. Both still are not back to normal. So no one is grumbling about this weeks rain.

One of my two favourite priests passed away. He had cancer that was in remission and then flared up. Even in his ill state he was the most joyfilled person I knew. He was a real witness of how it was to have a great quality of life in even the most impossible circumstances. He was still saying daily mass and giving homilies right up to about a week before his death. I am going to miss him so much. His funeral is tomorrow.

The D and her boyfriend and Bentley came and just "hung" here for a couple of days. We were kind of surprised but happy, we went out to eat and laugh quite a bit.

The DH loved his first class. I am so happy for him. NO retirement adjustments there...he must have been a "retirement" looking for a place to happen. He is going to go to Ca. next week.

That is all the news here.

aleka 09-11-2003 07:53 AM

Good morning,

A friend and I are meeting for lunch later and then going antiquing. Haven't seen her in a while so we should have a good visit.

About a week ago, my 1st cousin, once removed (her mother is my first cousin), died of breast cancer, she was 50. I just found out that her Dad passed away a few days ago, and I believe he had cancer too. I cannot imagine what the family is going through. I never knew the family very well, as we are not close.

Cheryl, don't get disouraged, you will have setbacks from time to time. You sound really busy and anxious to leave for your new job.

judi, it is hard getting back on track. You'll be back to the beach soon. I have to confess that I have left the beach. I guess I just lack motivation. Do you get Dr. Phil in your area, and are you a fan? He is going to be on Friday night with Katie Couric at 8:00 pm EST with a special about his new book on weight loss. He will be giving advice and answering questions. I plan on watching and hope it will give me the kick in the pants I need. I am so sorry about your priest. I'm sure you'll miss him very much. Glad that your DH enjoys his class. A big SMOOCH to Marley, Esteban, & Bentley. How is Bentley doing with his allergies? Mz Lacee says WOOF!

ledom, how are you doing?

Have a wonderful day ladies!
