Default Stress effects on weight loss..

I don't know if this has been asked (or if Im in the right section), but what are some of the ways that stress effects weight loss? (And while I'm on the topic, what about TOM?)

I've just finished my TOM and I'm in the middle of my end of year exams, my family are trying to sell our house and my boyfriend's father is in and out of hospital so all in all things are getting pretty stressed out.
And while I've lost a few pounds and my weights going and up down maybe 3 pounds every other day, I'm wondering is this because of stress or periods or both or neither...

Also - in terms of diet, is there anything you guys eat or do that helps with stress and that insane urge to eat when you are stressed?
