Good mornign everyone!
Ah...the unsupportive friend. The girls are right-we ALL have that person/people in our lives...my favorite comment after losing all of the weight after my daughter was born was "Wow, your new haircut really makes your face look thinner." My reply was, "no, I don't think it was the cut, I think it was the 40 pounds."
My sister in laws are the yo-yo's in our family-since my husband and I have been together, they have ranged from a size 7/8 to an 18-at different times, etc.
Most of my comments come from my in-law's-I don't think that they are trying to to be rude, but maybe that they just don't know any better regarding what foods are bad for you, and about specifics in exercise-so I try to let it roll off. Recently it has gotten better though, my mother in law told me her sister wants to lose some weight, and asked if I would help her out with her diet and give her some advice-so maybe she is realizing that I know more about these things that she does.
I will say one thing though-I love the rude comments from people I don't like...because I know it sout of jealousy and the fact that they can't stand to see me look better than them-so I take joy in those comments and looks.
I am busy, busy today-I have class tonight, and I have a lot of things to do-so I better run! Have a good one!
Aphil
ps-Nola-I would love to have your calves...mine are large, but they are very slow to gain good definition in the muscle. ARGH.

VermontMom 03-25-2003 12:16 PM

Calf envy

psssstt - I envy Nola's calves also! My abs are my body part that respond well to exercise, but would love the well-defined legs! oh, well, que sera sera, haha

aphil 03-25-2003 12:37 PM

Ya know...we could create the perfect woman...add my biceps and big boobs...Holly's abs....Nola's legs...Kina's pretty skin...

I have massive blonde ringlet hair, does that count in the perfect woman??? I weighed in last night and lost 2 more pounds!!! I am down 29.6-so close to 30-I really want that next 5# star! I have kept my promise and have gone to Curves every day so far and I feel great. Thanks for making me realize that I need to exercise along with dieting, they really kick in the weight loss! What is everyone's favorite pair of jeans and why? I can't wait to buy a really great fitting pair and wait for the compliments!!!Well, back to work.:dizzy:

Kanola 03-25-2003 08:24 PM

:)

Thanks guys. The posts have been awesome about my question on how to handle ‘friends’ who are not supportive of what you are going through.

Idealperson – how awesome!! I would love to have hair like you!! Keep up the great work!! My Fav jeans are a pair of Guess button fly. They have been through the no-fit stage of my life to the current ‘hang off my butt’ stage. Love them to pieces.

Tryin’hard – I would like to kick those people in the shins sometimes. It can be so hard to just smile and take the comments…. And there are times I have gone to the bathroom to get away, and get some positive thoughts in my head to counteract the bad comments. Grrrr.

Holly – thanks for the words of advice. I have chosen to just spend the least amount of time with her as possible. Hubby and I have talked about this a lot the last couple of weeks and occasionally after we got back from Canada. A ski trip to the ‘mountains’ was planned with them in about Sept/Oct of this year, but we both agree that is not going to happen if we can barely have dinner with them!! It is too bad she feels that way towards me. When my good friend from college days who lives in Canada lost 45 lbs a year ago…. I was sooooooo happy for her, and she has been motivation for me all along. When we were in Canada I kept telling her how awesome she looked, what a great job she was doing keeping it off . After a year of keeping it off, it was really good for her to hear that… because it was not ‘new’ to everyone else anymore. After not seeing her for 18 months, I was taking double looks every time she walked in the room!!

Ab envy!! I have the tummy rolls…. YUCK!! I would love to have rock hard abs that show!! I know they are there somewhere!!

Ok… more motorcycle talk!! Love the new gear!! Woohoo!! Your trip sounds so awesome!! I am getting a luggage rack put on my bike this weekend because there is talk of doing overnight rides soon. I am NOT going to take 2 days of ‘girlie stuff’ in a backpack on the sports bike!!! You will have to take lots of photos during the trip!! How exciting!!

Aphil – you always have such great advice too. Makes me laugh now after reading your posts about the family.

I don’t think this friend is not informed…. When I was first losing weight, she knew it all and lectured me on it constantly. Very funny turn of events eh? She is a doctor and I think she is just used to treating everyone as ‘patients’.

Calf Envy…..AB envy…. Hair envy……. We can really be tough on ourselves!! Good to see that each one of us can quickly come up with something we like about ourselves!!!

My brother’s girlfriend has a great saying whenever someone complains to her about something….”Suck it up Princess ”. So now when I get a comment tossed my way… I am going to ‘suck it up princess’ and let it roll off me!!

Have a great day everyone!! This board is the best!!
Nola.

aphil 03-26-2003 09:28 AM

Good morning!
Nola-I totally agree...this board is the best! :) I am also going to use your new slogan..."Suck it Up Princess." That is just great-it should all be our new motto here.
:queen:-Suck It Up Princess!
There-there is the new Doin' it the Old Fashioned Way slogan and Mascot. When things get tough or we get bad news, or things just aren't going our way-we should just suck it up and get on with the positives in our lives!
IdealPerson-yes, your hair counts! This is quite a gorgeous woman we are constructing here...now let's add your hair and a pinch of Nancy's seemingly ability (from her pictures) to NEVER AGE.
Last night's class was great-I did my abs yesterday morning-I usually do my abs every weekday, since they do not need the 48 hour rest between strength training sessions-and I did 30 minutes of aerobics-then I had my dance class last night. It was great-we are learning a piece of basic choreography now to a really cool song. Do you all remember that old Creedence Clearwater Revival song "I put a Spell on You?" We are doing it to remix of it sung by a woman with a Middle Eastern type of music. It is very HOT.
My instructor and I were talking last night, and the show that her troupe is performing in in May-the one the costumes I am making are for-is a really big bellydance gathering, with big shows and their is going to be a woman there who is conducting a teaching workshop-she is a big world wide instructor/VIP in the bellydance world. Well, my teacher asked me if I was going to go to the show-it is a couple of hours away. I told her yes, and she asked me if I wanted to do the workshop as well. Heck yeah!!! I never thought it as a possibility really...I didn't think I was experienced enough to be able to go-but since she thinks I should go-I will! I am excited!
My sister in law also brought me some clothes last night that were hers. She has lost weight recently as well-and she had some size 16's to bring to me. There was a really cute pair of Old Navy denim overalls in there that I LOVED. The rest are okay-but just fine for going to the store or what have you.
Aphil
ps-Just about forgot! The question on what is my favorite pair of jeans...well, in my size 16's, it is my white denim capri pants. I bought them when I was going down the weight ladder from having Jasmine, and now I can finally get into them again. They are very flattering on me for some reason.

I stopped getting notification again.. I hate when that happens! At least I didn't miss like a month this time..
I've not been very good this week.. I'm probably gonna see a gain instead of a loss... that'll teach me!
Today's my birthday.. I'm old now.. 28!
Today Kairi is 2 months old... doesn't feel nearly that long since I had her! She's gonna be 1 before I know it!!

I have to decide if I want a new computer for my birthday or a new 4 megapixel digital camera! I'm so torn!! My hubby will prolly let me get both but I feel guilty cuz we're not rollin in the money, if you know what I mean! We'll seeeee ;)

Hope everyone is doing well..

I ordered an overall dress in size medium the other day.. figuring I'll fit into it when I lose the rest of this baby weight.. go figure.. it fit now! That's always nice ;) It'll be a little roomy later but I think it'll still look good.. :)

Okay.. gotta go do something productive now ;)

Catch you guys later!

Christine
174/170.5/130
Mini goal: 169 (but I'll never reach it if I don't start bein good!)

GeorgiaLady 03-26-2003 03:02 PM

Happy Birthday Christine!! :hat:

Hi Everyone -- Hope everyone's been able to enjoy this beautiful weather!! I've been working in the yard - pulling weeds, spraying weeds, yelling at weeds, etc. We had a new fence installed today. I was so happy about it...don't know if that's good or just sad.

Decided to make a stir-fry for lunch that consited mainly of celery (not one of my favorites) because I'm trying new things.....it was okay...think I'll stick to the brocolli though from now on.

Hope everyone is staying O.P. I'm trying...some good days; some not so good but the average is still acceptable so hopefully I'll be down another lb. soon.

aphil 03-26-2003 03:12 PM

Hi all,
Happy birthday Silence!!!
I just finished doing Pilates...and I started my spring cleaning by cleaning all of the ceiling fans in the house...we have 4 of them!
I also have started working on a patchwork baby quilt for a friend who is expecting...I am still waiting on patterns and fabrics and such for the troupe costumes, so I thought I would get a head start on the baby quilt. It is what is called a "Log Cabin" pattern, if any of you are familiar with country quilts. It will be all in pastel florals and pastel gingham checked fabrics when it is finished.
I say, crafting of any sort-if you can do it-is a great way not to munch! I know Kina can chrochet-I am sure all of you can do SOMETHING-knit, chrochet, sew, paint, do crossword puzzles...there are lots of little things you can do that keep you hands busy so they are out of the chip bag...
My son's birthday party (his 2nd) is in mid-April, I have set a mini goal of reaching 175 by then...I am hoping that stepping up my cardio and limiting my treats will speed things along a bit. :)
Well, I need to get a few things done around here!
Aphil

Idealperson 03-26-2003 05:04 PM

This is the best thread, and very popular! I wish I could quilt, I have a friend who can make beautiful creations! I am still looking for a great fitting jean-how about Old Navy and Gap-any faves out there? Also, how about sharing what's for supper tonight? I have to cook for a family of six-so it's chicken again!

VermontMom 03-26-2003 09:12 PM

We ARE great, aren't we?

Hi everyone!

Christine, Happy Birthday!!! Hope it was a nice one! 28? Pffft! You are a YOUNG 'UN, little sister! :D

Aphil, congratulations on being asked to do the workshop!! How thrilling for you! It is so cool how you have such varied interests in different types of movement/exercise. That is the sure way to guarantee that you will always have an interest and desire to keep exercising!

GeorgiaLady - that is very funny, questioning about being excited about a fence. Yes, for homeowners, it IS exciting! Like when we get a brand new shiny water heater or something :dizzy: :dizzy: Up here, we are FAR from being able to work outside on things such as weeds - still snow on most parts of the yard, but it melts more each day, revealing the SODDEN mess underneath! Yuck! the sins of the winter are revealed now! (more like my laziness in autumn being exposed, haha!)

Idealperson, hi! Let's see, we have ravioli often; I like how easy it is to portion them out; if I do that exactly, then count them to each person as they're served, there are no leftovers to munch on! And the sauce is easy to portion, by using measuring cups. Then we usually have green beans AND a green salad.

Favorite jeans? Well, I am partial to the two pairs of size 6 that I have, 'cause I love to see that number! One is the pair of Lee straight legs, that I had on in that lake pic; the others are from good ol' Walmart: American Glory; they're hiphuggers with slightly flared legs; remind me of the seventies!

Kanola, YES, that saying is fantastic! Our new motto! Yes, we sure could make a Wonder Woman from all the great "parts" here - heck, we have enough great parts to put a few together!

Hello also to Nancy, Jacklyn, tryin'hard, missymont! Hope you're all doing great!

Hey, I've been thinking of t-girl, Latisia - was she in the service, or was she out? I hope she is OK. We learned that my husband's niece, who is a service member, is still here in U.S. - but her husband, an officer on a submarine, has been "over there" since January...we are all worried, I know, about all our brave servicemembers, and wish them a safe, speedy return home.

Oh, I have another nasty person story to share! THREE times now, the woman who runs the general store in our town has said to other people, in front of me, "look what we have to look forward to when WE have our mid-life crisis" - speaking of my motorcycle riding. I have NEVER done anything other than being perfectly friendly to her, and she says crap like that...???? (heehee - you guys can say to me now "suck it up, Princess!" but I'm glad that I'm not losing sleep over her, and her snarkiness)

Have a great night!

Your friend, Holly

missymont 03-27-2003 07:54 AM

Hi Ladies! It's almost Friday. I've kinda been off track since Sunday, but I'm making my way back. I worked out this morning, but only with weights and 30 minutes on my stationary bike..I've been having a little pain in my knee..I twisted coming down the stairs..so I'm sticking to low to no impact cardio. I'm still not officially counting my calories even though once you've been at this for a while, you can calculate in your head.

Anyone have a good low-cal egg roll recipe?

Vermontmom...that general store lady is just jealous...probably wishes she were as "cool" as you are.

Happy Belated Birthday Silence.

Aphil, think we can start a new thread?

Have a good, healthy weekend everyone.

Missy

aphil 03-27-2003 09:49 AM

Hi everyone!
Idealperson-As far as the jeans go again...I do have a favorite cut in Old Navy jeans-the regular boot cut jeans for women. Mine are very dark, with the little bit of fading in the front of the thighs. They sit just right below the natural waist, right below the naval. I like these better than the low rise/ultra low rise boot cut, because no matter what the current trend is-I don't like the feeling of sitting down, and feeling like my crack is hanging out!
Holly-I say that Nola and I should take a trip over to see you and go to the general store with you...she can have her motorcycle-make sure her tattoos are showing-I'll put on a bellydance costume blazened with coins and my tattoos showing as well...then I'll shake my booty at her as we walk in. Midlife crisis-she ain't seen nothing yet. Or better yet, we can have all of our neighborhood Harley friends show up and all go on a "run" to the general store. She'll think we're all ****'s Angels or something! Seriously-she is so jealous.
I am also totally with you and GeorgiaLady on getting new stuff for the home. When my sister in law asked us what we wanted for Christmas, we told her a Lowe's gift card! we ended up gettig a new Hunter ceiling fan to replace the cheap one that was in our bedroom when we bought the house. (Hunter ceiling fans are the best-they are anchored in a lot better than most-so they don't end up "shaking" when they are on at high speed, and they are SO quiet.) I actually spent some of my Christmas money this past year on a new faucet for the bathroom sink! I love home stuff!
Well, I need to run-gotta get my workout in!
Aphil

You girls are too funny!!!

*insert giggles!!!*

OMG!!! I just had the funniest vision!!!

Two bikes pull up to the general store.... in walks Holly in her bike leathers, takes off her helmet, sets in down on the counter.

Then in walks Nola... decked out in her track leathers and Valentino Rossi replica helmet, puts that down on the counter...

And to top it off... Aphil sporting her tattoos.... and shakin' her lean booty at her....

The general store jealous woman's head spins around and around and .... EXPLODES!!!!

*giggles* you girls are just toooooo funny!!! Mid-life crisis my butt... just a bunch o' girls living life!!! :)

Well... I have some interesting news to report. About 3 weeks ago I was hit with a bout of fatigue, very very unusual for me to want to sleep all weekend!! and all week for that matter, so off to the doctor's office I went, had some blood tests. Everything came back normal, no way I would be anemic with iron levels that I have, blood sugar is normal, thyroid is normal (my mom has an almost inactive one).... except for one small problem.

My cholesteral is a bit high and I have bad results on the liver function, and pain in my tummy and most of the symptoms of... GALLSTONES!!!

I am off for more blood tests and an adominal ultrasound next week. I have been researching this topic on the net and found out some very interesting facts!! Being overweight (even just 20 lbs or so!!!), female and having been on birth control pills since I was 17 have put me into the 3 largest risk categories!! Go figure.

Seems like a very routine procedure so I am ok with the possible outcomes. Ok... I am a bit freaked out by all this!!! But at least I am not being put on the 'emergency' list at this point. I will keep you girls updated.

Hubby laughed when I was reading the symptoms to him.... I ate a donair type (soulvaki) wrap a few weeks back and it reacted really really bad, I had the 'girlie death farts' :o that made him send me to the couch to sleep.... one of the symptoms of gallstones is intolerance of fatty foods... and here I thought it was my 6 month healthy diet that caused it!! Crickey mates!!!! I was so wrong!!!

Oh well... guess it is my turn to be the sick one of the family!! Between my mom's health (lupus and a brain tumour a few years back, my dad's heart surgery, my brother's crook back, and hubby's knee reconstruction...... it is my turn to have something go wrong!! I feel like an old car that is breaking down!!

My other bad news is that I had booked in for an hour long, deep tissue massage at the physio's tomorrow.... at 11:30 right after WW. We stuffed up the time of our friends wedding, down on the beach about an hour's drive from home... and d'oh  it is not at 3pm like we thought, it is at 1 pm!!! So I will have to cancel and rebook it after I know what is up with my tests!! We are such duffers.

Well... I am off to get some sleep. It has been a crazy Friday night for me. I had a subway salad for dinner... no soulvaki for me tonight!!!

Take care everyone and have a good weekend!!

Nola.

jacklyn 03-28-2003 09:07 AM

Hello everyone!

First things first. Weigh in was no change. That's okay though...better than a gain right?

Holly~it amazes me how some people can be so rude!! Hasn't she heard that nowadays 40 is the "new 30"!! So nasty, mean, jealous, cant keep her mouth shut girlfriend is in for a rude awakening!

I know that when I was facing my 30th birthday, everyone told me that everything falls apart after you turn 30. So of course I set out to prove everyone wrong. I'll have to say that I feel better now than I felt in years. AND I have more confidence in myself....no matter what size I am. So that alone makes me feel better about myself and makes me want to continue my healthy journey.

About the jeans thing...I myself am a Levi's gal. I think they are the 550s (?). I forget the actual number but they are a relaxed fit and they feel so good after being washed 100 times or so! I literally wore my last pair out until the knees split!

Nola~I hope you start feeling better. I know of someone who had to have surgery to remove the gallstones after she lost about 100 pounds. I hope that you have better luck with it and not as much pain. Hopefully you've caught it soon enough! Either way, I 'll be thinking about you!

Missy~take care of your knee! I have chronic knee problems and I found that wearing some knee braces or something with support can help prevent some injuries. You dont have to get anything fancy, I usually buy some sort of bandage at Walmart or somewhere when my knees start acting up. Unfortunately, I have found that I just have to stick to walking. I used to try to run, but after a week I will barely be able to make it up and down stairs..so no more running for me.

Aphil, I just remembered, did you ever get your tattoo completed on your stomach? I bet it looks too cool in your belly dancing gear!

Talk to you guys later. I've got to get some work done!
