Default Diet Soda versus water...

ok, so I quit soda years ago (used to drink mountain dew and dr. pepper like I now drink water)
But where I work we are not allowed to drink the water. Instead they have a fridge full of sodas for us and a water tank thingy. But by the end of the day, it is low and I don't want to be drinking all of it...
so I wondered, would drinking a can of the soda (diet) be a substitute for water to supplement what I bring from home and the water cooler? I usually bring a full bottle from home and then fill it up...but I figure if there is ever no water or little water I might drink the soda?
Thoughts?

Hi Dagny! I can sympathize with you, I dont drink soda either and my company stocks all types of soda and has a weird little water filter. I have about 2-3 water bottles that I refill in the morning and keep on my desk for the rest of day. I dont mind drinking room-temp water, but I dont know if you do. I really dont think it's extremely bad if yuo drink a diet soda, but since you gave it up already why start again?

yea thats what I was thinking...why start now?
I guess I could buy a lunch box and several water bottles and bring them and put them in the fridge? It would keep them cold until I wanted them....thats the only other solution I can think of.

I hear ya. I too am a recovering soda drinker ( I used to start the day with a can of coke like some folks drink coffee).

I NEVER liked diet soda and I happen to believe it makes me thirstier (as did regular soda- ever wonder why the stuff has sodium in it when its supposed to be sweet?).

How big is your bottle? I have a liter sized metal sigg bottle. Its pricey to start with but its more portable than several small annoying plastic bottles, keeps stuff super cold and is more pleasant to drink from than a plastic bottle. And it saves money over time.

My solution in your situation would be to just bring two of those from home if I were very concerned about hogging the communal supply or only bring one and top off at work if I weren't. I drink more than 2 liters of water a day generally but 2 liters of water would be more than enough to keep me from being thirsty at work.

That said- I don't know what the nature of your work is or what the climate is like where you are- If you are actually very thirsty ( not just bored or looking for something to consume) I have to think that drinking the diet has to be better than nothing at all as long as you are sure it wont trigger a craving for the real thing. Also I understand not wanting to feel like a water hogg- but if it really is the end of the day and you really are thirsty (again not just looking for something to put in your mouth or something to do) why shouldn't you have the last bit? Actually if that happens often enough your company might redirect some of the soda money to another water cooler bottle.

Good Luck!
