They say to start with Fat Smash if you have more weight to lose. You have a list of foods you're allowed to eat. There's 4 phase you follow. Each phase you add more food and exercise. I love it!
I just bought the book Extreme Fat Smash. It has a menu you have to follow and there's more exercise. I'm going to stick to the regular fat smash and once I have around 15lbs-20lbs left, I'll switch to Extreme. |
Thanks!! Hmm, I am currently at 142 and my goal is 125. Which do you think I should start with? I was planning on doing the old WW points plan, but this sounds interesting. How long have you been doing the FS diet?
|
I started Fat Smash on September 7 so almost 2 months now. I'm on phase 3. The first 9 days, you can lose up to 9 lbs. I guess it depends on the person I guess. Fat Smash is more free to create things. The first 9 days is the hard part. You can pretty much only eat fruits, veggies, milk, brown rice.. No meat for 9 days! The whole wheat bread & pasta only comes in phase 3. I don't know much about Extreme. I know some people love it better than the original Fat Smash. I love this one since I can eat from the list what I want, when I want. I don't follow a menu. I think it's easier for me. I really love this diet!
|
Can I join you guys? I feel like such a floater these days because I'm continually switching from WW, calorie counting, fat smashing, etc and I need some stability here. I know my body is upset with me.
I have the Fat Smash, Extreme Fat Smash, and 4 Day Diet books but I'm going to start with the Fat Smash. I absolutely abhor the first 9 days but I will be allowing myself a small amount of coffee. The 4 Day Diet allows coffee but the first 4 days are more strict then Fat Smash and exercise is mandatory. Fat Smash is the most laxed out of all the books. I haven't truely weighed myself since April:o so I know I'm in for a shocker when I start. What makes things slightly easier is it's cold where I am so I can make plenty of soups and stews, I'm all about one pot meals. I really thank you guys for keeping the smashing community going! |
MeikMeika- I had coffee 3x during Ph 1 and black tea twice- my headaches were too bad to eliminate it all together but I still lost about 8 lbs in PH 1. I also allowed a teeny bit of low fat cheese for salad protein-the babybell rounds. If I forgot my water bottle, I'd be in a funk all day during phase one;)
ALSO- I would not have survived Ph1 without the Fatsmash Recipe link I found on the forum!!! if you need it, let me know. Sophie-I definately need to start w/ the excercise- I walked a few times but felt like i couldn't focus on excercise AND eating per phase 1...so I focused on eating. I really like the podcast from Carlifierce and will use them for my walks-who knows...maybe I will actually couch2 5K someday? One different thing I am doing- so as not to be tempted by fast food when I become hungry- when we are out shopping, whatever, if I don't have my lunch bag-I've bought a single banana, apple, protein smoothie or single serve cheese stick--instead of a candy bar, chocolate milk, chips or drive through food. i bought some gum (not a big fan, but it helps) It's officially 10 lbs as of yesterday-happy and hope to push on through the next 10! We made a delicious stir fry the other night with peppers, onions, green beans, a splash of pineapple juice and a low sodium sesame terryaki-served over brown rice. Filling and tasty. |
Margarita124> Thanks for the warm welcome!!!! You didn't cheat when eating the low-fat cheese, based on my book you have the option of eating 1.5 low-fat cheese slices or a veggie burger (with no bun of course). I'm gonna stick with the coffee, it keeps me sane.
Also, congratulations on the weight loss!!!!!!!!!! I have found the recipe link and would like to try out the oatmeal cookies! YUM! If today goes accordingly, I will have: breakfast: egg whites w/ green onion & 1/2 slice lf cheese grits, instant plain banana lunch: vegetable root soup apple dinner: pigeon pea pattie brown rice salad, no dressing snacks: fruit smoothie 100 cal cereal bar(I had totally forgotten that one snack is permitted in ph1, you can have a low-fat granola bar, of which I'm subbing a 100 cal cereal bar since it's what I have on hand) Enjoy your day! |
Welcome Meikmeika! Happy to have another to join us :D
I don't think low fat granola bar is accepted in Fat Smash? I could be wrong. I think it might be in the Extreme version. You seem to be doing great though :D Keep us updated. I started Chalean Extreme yesterday. wow is all I can say lol! I almost fainted 3/4 of the way. I asked my beachbody coach and he told me that I might've worked myself too much. I need to find my heart monitor and use it next time. |
oh my- sophie- be careful!! no fainting
off to foodshop... |
Holy Crap!!! I'm already tweaking a bit with keeping my coffee...I hope I didn't just eat something else not allowed for P1.....sigh...Off to find the book....:?:
Phew....I feel better. I have the blue and white book with black letters reading, "The Fat Smash Diet". Page 21 includes allowed items for phase 1, the last indexed item points you to pages 142-143 for phase 1 snacks. 1 low-fat granola bar is allowed. WOOT!!! Sophie> Great job on the Chalean Extreme! She's the one who does Turbo Jam right? I've tried Slim in 6, Power 90 and Turbo Jam and they all have me out of breath before the work outs are over. You'll see results very quickly. |
margarita124 - Thanks :) I hope tomorrow is better. I'll be keeping watch on my heart monitor (I need to find it now lol).
Meikmeika - Well, you thought me something new. I never thought granola bars were acceptable in phase 1. I would've ate some let me tell you lol. Oh, now I see what you mean. It says to choose the snack that fits the phase you're in. I guess granola bars would be considered in oatmeal? Today I ate at my mom's. We had chicken breasts in cream of mushroom. I know I shouldn't have the cream of mushroom but I allowed myself this once. I also ate brown rice & carrots with it. It was yummy! |
Today was just an ok day...... I felt so blah, got nauseas at one point, ate lunch and was fine.
coffee, banana 2 oatmeal cookies from recipe section black beans w/ salsa, brown rice blueberries egg white omelette w/ green onions & lf cheese grits cereal bar ff greek yogurt I definitely need to get some more ruffage in. I'm gonna make some collard green and black eye pea soup, it's amazing, even without meat. Hope you guys are having a good Monday. |
I felt a bit nauseas when I did phase 1. I think the sudden lack of sugar does that. I hate the feeling. It'll pass though. You just need to fight through it. Your menu seems AWESOME! Lots of variety. I stuck to the same things during phase 1. Veggie Chilli, apple bake, smoothies... can't remember what else. I find that when you find something you enjoy, it's a lot easier. I still do my apple bake now (some in the fridge actually).
Continue your awesome work! I'm sure you'll be reaching your goal weight soon enough. :) Today was a bad day for me pretty much. I started my day with apple bake with a vanilla activia yogurt. I then got myself a coffee (with a cookie). I got to work, a woman went to the states and brought us some goodies (chips & candy), I had some... the chips were just DELICIOUS! I shouldn't have ate one... I was hooked. But now they're gone. No more chips. I almost caved in at the grocery store and bought myself some white cheddar popcorn (my fave!). I didn't though. Don't need that in the house to tempt me all week! I ate a 6" sub at Subway (roasted chicken) and then had macaroni for supper. There wasn't much nutrition in these meals except for the first one. I didn't even have my fruit for a snack since I snacked on the chips... I'm just going to brush that off. Today though, I drank 2litres of water and more. I'm going to continue doing that this week. I want to get back in the water habit. I also did another workout from Chalean Extreme. My legs are DEAD! My arms are sore. My butt is also in pain lol. I think I better hit the shower and then in bed for me. Hope you all had a great day! Keep Smashin'! |
The prodigal daughter has returned, lol.
|
lol, welcome to the group JellyBelly! Are you just starting phase 1?
Well, I had a pretty bad morning. I had two coffees. One I tried some Sweet & Creamy Coffee Mate. It wasn't too good so I don't think I'll be having more of those. The other was my regular coffee with 2 milks & 1 twin. After that, it was someone's birthday so I had a piece of cherry cheesecake... omg was it ever yummy! I know I know... bad girl! I'll work it out tonight in my workout ;) Don't know what I'm having for lunch yet. I have to go to the grocery store to pick something out. I may just buy a salad or a wrap. Not sure yet. Hope everyone is having a good day! |
Sophie> It's all good....sounds like the chips and cheesecake were worth eating anyways. We have to live a little right?!
JellyBelly> Hello! Today was yet another blah day. I'm sure the stress at my job isn't helping... coffee banana rice, black beans and salsa, tempeh (which is another take on soy) grapes vegetable root stew 100 calorie cereal bar Like a total dummy I got on the scale this morning and gained a lb....aarrr:mad:! This is definitely why I need more ruffage. Hope everyone's having a wonderful Tues!!!!! |
Awww, don't worry, you'll see the weight go down soon enough! Are you drinking a lot of water? I'm bad with the scales too. I weigh in first thing in the morning (naked) and then again before I shower (naked again). I'm pathetic like that LOL! I know I shouldn't but I keep doing it anyways. Exercise will also help out a lot. I didn't during phase 1 and I should have. But, I can't change both my exercise and diet at the same time. That's just me. So now that I have my diet where I want it to be, I'm working on my exercise.
Well, did another awesome workout tonight. I think it was the toughest I've EVER done. My body was trying to shut down but I didn't let it and fought through. I wasn't able to follow them exactly but I gave it 100%. My goal is to be able to follow them (with the same body of course LOL). I ate well the rest of the day. Soup for lunch, banana for snack & piece of pork with brown rice and veggies. I know the pork isn't marked in the book but I allow it once in a while. I don't eat a lot of it either so. |
Hi, ladies! Thx for the welcomes!!!
I'm in the process of gearing up to start phase 1. I need to go grocery shopping first though. I've done Fat Smash before, and it works very well for me, but I always fall off the bandwagon and regain the weight. *sigh* |
Keep saying you can do it JellyBelly! The first phase is hard but I thought was very important. If you can stick exactly as the diet says during the first phase, the rest of the phases will be a piece of cake and it'll keep getting better and better. I even didn't have coffee during the first phase and was happy I didn't. I told myself I wasn't going to die if I didn't have coffee for 9 days and I didn't :) Stay positive!
I weighed myself at 169.0 this morning. I almost felt like smashing the scale. I know it's going to go down slower right now because I'm starting to exercise with weights and I'll be gaining muscles. Also, this weekend is my birthday party (saturday) even though my birthday is Nov 2nd. We're doing a Halloween Party at my cousin's. I'm going to be drinking and probably eating things I shouldn't. I'll be good the first part of the day but around dinner time, I won't be... I was planning on doing my detox day Sunday but I probably won't be up to it. I'll do this next Saturday. Only fruits/veggies/nuts smoothies for the day. Total cleanup! I know I won't be hitting my 165 goal weight by Halloween but I really want to hit my 150 goal weight by Christmas. It's going to be tough! |
I was reading old posts and I think that once phase 3 is done, I'm going to hop back on phase 1 and start over until I hit my goal weight. What do you guys think of that? It would mean that I would start phase 1 again November 5. I just feel like I'm on a plateau and it's driving me crazy...
|
Ugh guys I'm so very very very very very very fustrated. I'm going to go extra hard next week but I didn't lose any weight this week. I've been trying to keep motivated. I'm trying to keep a positive attitude, but it's so hard, its never taken me this long to lose the amount of weight I want to lose. Coming from 235, I've come down quite a bit. Next week I'm going to try going heavy on the excercise and increase my vegetable intake. I'm looking to lose another 3lbs by next thursday!
Sophie, you do well when you were in phase 1. I say to switch the system up, it would be good to start with that. I also think that since it's your birthday you should go a little easy on yourself. I forget because I don't have that book anymore, but what were the restrictions for phase 1? You were doing great with that I might do it. Hi Jelly Belly!!! |
Oh and Meikmeika I was looking at what you eat, and are you still hungry with the menu that you have? Are you generally satisfied?
|
Yes, I'm usually like that. Phase 2 was ok too. Phase 3 though, it's more free-for-all and I usually go crazy when I have more freedom. The thing is, I don't know if I should go to phase 1 continue or if I do phase 1 and then return to phase 3? The second option is what the book says if you hit a plateau but I don't know what to do...
Phase 1 - Allowed Foods •all fruit •all vegetables except white potatoes and avocadoes •tofu •dried beans (e.g., chickpeas, lentils) •brown rice •oatmeal •limited skim or soy milk •herbs and spices •low-fat yogurt (no more than 12 oz. daily) •up to 4 egg whites daily •herbal tea •unlimited water |
I'm so ready for the weekend....
Well, I've fallen head first off the wagon, and it's ok. I've decided that I'm going back Weight Watchers and counting points, it's funny how no matter what diet I may try I always end back up with WWs... I'm so stressed at work I can't deal with being nauseas. When looking over my previous menus I know I was crazily under my WW daily target pts. I know this program works, I've done it before and lost 4lbs in P1 but for some reason my heads not in the game. Will you guys allow me to continue posting here? Primetime> I wasn't really hungry when I was doing P1 b/c I was always snacking on something. I mainly think the calorie deficit was too drastic for me. Sophie> I really hope that you have a wonderful birthday/halloween party and remember it's your day. Enjoy yourself! |
Thanks guys. I might actually do phase 1 I've got 3 weeks to try and lose 8lbs, I really want to meet that goal!
Meikmeika it's ok you'll just be smashing fat in your own way lol I don't care if you do. |
Weighed in at 168.6 this morning (no weight loss). I'm not sad though. I've been working out all week so I know I'm building muscles.
Meikmeika - Thanks! I'm sure I'll have a lot of fun! Of course you can keep on posting here! Like PrimeTime said, you'll be smashin fat your own way. PrimeTime - I might start phase 1 next Monday. I'll probably be hung over on Sunday so hopefully I'll be up to baking... I'm going to do my apple bake for sure. I also need to do a vegetable rice soup. When will you be starting phase 1? |
Awwwwww......Thanks Guys!!!!
I've been eating well, had one piece of chocolate last night for 2 pts and it was ok. A goal that I have for myself is if I don't like what I'm eating, regardless of what it is or how much I paid, I won't eat it... We don't realize how important this action is. I was people watching at my job and noticed the skinny people would only eat foods they really liked (even with the donuts, cookies, cakes, candies) that are always in our office. The ones trying to lose weight would just eat the stuff b/c it was there and most would mumble they would start their diet tomorrow. This is the exact reason the "diet" mentality sucks sometimes but without it I would have no self control.... I'm still the same weight.... I have to keep telling myself that it took a while for me to put it on so it's probably gonna take some time to come off. I'm such an impatient person. Sophie> How are your clothes fitting? Now that you're exercising you may want to track measurements as well, you'll be pleasantly surprised! Sophie & Prime> If you guys have blenders or food processors you can do alot of awesome soups like split pea, black bean, vegetable root, squash, etc, for phase I. You guys have a wonderful weekend and enjoy your party Sophie! Stock up on gingerale and saltines....hehe! |
I'm planning on starting on Monday. I don't know about having too much grains though. This past week I did they and didn't lose any weight. I need to find the right balance. What does everyone have for breakfast?
Meikmeika, I have a blender but I haven't the slightest idea how to do that Confession: I had a binge yesterday:( up 2.7lbs. But I'm still determined. |
Hey everyone!
Today is my first day of the FSD and so far so good. Figured I'll post, instead of just lurking. I need all the encouragement I can get. |
I had a fun on Saturday, dressed up and partied at a friend's house. I didn't go overboard. No hangovers! YAY! I was hoping to start Phase 1 today, guess that didn't happen. I didn't think things through. Today is Halloween and Wednesday is my birthday. I was bound to cheat this week. So, with that said, I'm either starting phase 1 on Thursday or next Monday. We'll see how everything goes. I know I shouldn't do excuses but I can't help it! Lately, it's been tough because I'm not seeing any weight loss and I'm getting discouraged... I know I shouldn't rush things but it felt so good when the weight was going down in the beginning. I need to get my head in gear again...
Edit: Hey unstoppable! Glad to have you on board with us! :) Phase 1 can be a thoughie. Hang in there! Post on here if you have any questions of if you're having a tough day. I find it helps. |
UGGH-bad weekend! snowstorm-no power- generator only works on part of the house-eally not sticking to P2 b/c I've not had a fridge.
Powers back on-fortunately, I don't care about candy so tonight won't be an issue with trick or treating with my lil one. I just need to eat salad for a week-lol |
I've been thinking a lot... I want to lose 10 lbs by Christmas. That's my goal. I've never reached a weight loss goal before. I wanted to reach 165 by Halloween and it didn't happy by 3 lbs... It totally sucked not reaching it. I want to reach this next one. I've decided I'm either starting Fat Smash over again or I'm trying the Extreme Version. I was browsing through the extreme book before going to bed last night and it doesn't seem too bad. The only part that scares me is the exercise part. I'm struggling in that department. What I was thinking of doing is splitting it in two or three. I'd do a bit in the morning, a bit in noon and a bit in the afternoon. I think that could work. It would mean I get up a bit earlier but that shouldn't be too bad. I'm a Beta in the Extreme version... I'll need to research a bit. If I start it, it'll be either on Thursday or Friday depending on when I'm ready. I'd love to keep my weigh ins on Fridays though so I may start on that day but we'll see. The reason I'm not starting tomorrow is because it's my birthday and I don't want to start a diet on that day.
|
Today is day 2 of 9. So far so good. I forgot my water bottle at home so needless to say I have not been drinking enough water today. Ugghh!
Does anyone have suggestions for tasty dinner options for phase 1? |
Spaghetti Squash with Vegetable Spaghetti Sauce? :) Or maybe even some brown rice with stir fry veggies. I always keep a spare water bottle at work so that if I forget mine, I have a backup one ;)
So, I've decided I'm doing the Extreme Fat Smash diet! I've been thinking about it all day. I've been reading reviews and I've finally made up my mind. I have a goal of losing 10 lbs for Christmas and I'm hoping I can do that with the Extreme Version. I know I can do it! My official date is going to be on Friday. It'll give me enough time to buy my groceries and prepare myself mentally for the week ahead. Anyone else starting this phase of the Extreme version? |
Thanks Sophie for the ideas. Yeah, I finally caved in and bought a bottle of water
|
Hey Guys!!!
My eating since this wknd has been horrible! I really need to get back on track. Prime> How is everything going? I know you were starting over yesterday and I hope all has been good. Sophie> I think I'm gonna give EFS a go as well. The exercise scares me too, I haven't worked out in ages but I need extreme right now. Yeah, I think your best bet is starting out fresh on Fri, since it's your weigh-in day and you need to have fun on your b-day. Fun being eating cake and treating yourself...hehe! Margarita> My gosh! I'm happy to hear the powers back on. I can totally understand you about eating salads all week.... Unstoppable> Welcome!!! I'm still fairly new to this group as well, but they're awesome! I find soups to be the easiest meals for P1. |
Well, I did have fun on my birthday. Ate a lot of crap food LOL! I managed to gain 1.4lbs in one week... I weighed in this morning at 170.0. Tomorrow I'm starting Extreme Fat Smash. I brought the book with me to work. I'm going to go through the menu for the first week and go buy the groceries I need tonight. For exercise, I'm going to start with walking. I'm sure the dog will enjoy it. I decided I'd do this diet for at least 21 days for sure. After that though, I ordered another book, it's a diet based on your blood-type. I told my boyfriend we'd try it together and see how it goes. I'll be getting it in a couple of weeks so, figured I'd try EFSD at least once before getting the other book. My boyfriend bought me an ice cream cake yesterday. I didn't have a piece yet since I was too full at dinner but I'm having a piece tonight since I won't be able to have any for the next three weeks. I'm going to look how many calories there's in a piece. I'm pretty sure it's more than 100! haha!
Hope you guys are having a good day. Keep on smashin! |
Sophie- happy to hear you had a great time for your birthday
Today is day four of the fat smash diet, and I must admit that things are going well. I feel like I have more energy, and I know it may sound weird but my insides feel clean. I did cheat and weighed myself this morning, but I'm happy to report that I'm down 2 pounds in four days!! I'm going to try to make it the remaining five days without weighing myself. |
starting fs monday
i am so happy to find a forum that is up to date! i am starting the diet for the first time on monday nov 7th. i just got the book and i think i can stick to this diet! is any one looking for a diet buddy? i really wish i had someone to go to the gym with me but at least it would be nice to have someone to motivate me. cw:261 gw:150
thanks |
Ok guys,
I have a retirement party to go to tomorrow. Should I only plan to eat the veggies that are there or partake in the food and beverage (of course in moderation) and extend phase 1 for a couple of days? |
josica11 - Welcome to the group! :D I was also happy to have more people doing this diet. I actually started the Extreme Fat Smash this morning but I did the original up to the end of phase 3 and then switched because I wasn't really losing anymore. I needed change. But I'm here for you if you have any questions :) Just post on here daily, I find it really helps to stay focused.
unstoppable - You're doign so good!! I just have to say, if you cheat, it may bring back cravings. I would try to only eat the foods that are acceptable on phase 1. You can maybe even try to bring some food from home? I found that if you do EXCELLENT on phase 1, the other phases are a whole lot easier. Let us know how it went. Today I started Day 1 of Cycle 1. Cycle one is 1 week. My starting weight is 172.2... I know, yesterday I was 170.0 and this morning 172.2. I ate a lot yesterday. I shouldn't have I know but I was OUT OF CONTROL! This morning though, I'm in control and I'm going to lose my 10 lbs. The book says you can lose 12 lbs in 3 weeks but I'm aiming for 10. I'll post my daily menu tonight. I need to do an hour of cardio. I may do 30 mins walking and 30 mins on my stationary bike. We'll see :) I'm pretty positive today. I had my breakfast, I'm going to have my meal #2 pretty soon. I have one question, am I allowed to have coffees on this diet? I read up to cycle one and I don't remember reading anything about coffee. I had my regular coffee this morning with milk and a sweetner. I'm thinking it's ok since I'm allowed 2 diet pop per day if wanted. I'll need to read the book again and make sure I don't forget anything. Hope everyone is having a good Friday! Edit: Tonight, my last meal is Beans & vegetables. What I'm thinking of doing is a soup with it. I'm going to put a can of beans, 1 can of tomato soup & frozen veggies. It will be good enough for me and more enjoyable I think. |
