Interesting thoughts. I too eat while doing other things, but I'm not sure that is good... just always been my style. I also feel that it is important to put the food on a plate as it is too easy to grap a bite of something and forget to write it down.

CC We have been experiencing record hi's as well and make it difficult to do outside things for me because I'm not an outside person and I also hate the weather when it gets way too hot. I do enjoy sitting on back porch reading in the mornings before it gets too hot.

I ordered another book today I read about on a newsletter I got from a healt site called GoUnDiet by Gloria Tsang. From what I read on Amazon, she tells of 50 changes we can make to eat healthy while you enjoy the foods you like and lose weight and keep it off without dieting. I decided to order it because it sounded so IE friendly and could be helpful dealing with getting rid of the "diet mentalilty".

Sounds like a good book, Trish. I would really like to read that book The Psychologists Eat Anything Diet but I won't pay $20 for a paperback that once sold for $1.25. ha!

It's not so much wandering around grazing as it is eating a pretzel or two while making my girls' lunches, or eating a cracker or two when cooking. I am terrible about breakfast, which is usually eaten standing up, while doing other things to get ready for work, but I also don't usually overeat at breakfast. I do sit for lunch at work, but read blogs while I'm eating. I also bolt down my lunch because I want to get outside for a walk. I've been working on eating more slowly at dinner (we almost always eat at the table as a family) because it's embarrassing to have my daughter point out that I'm done when everyone else still has half a plate of food!

I find it so strange now that food isn't that important like it used to be. I used to love McDonald's and finally reverted to eating happy meals. Now I'd rather eat at home. And going out to a fancy place takes so long......driving an hour and then waiting to order and getting the order.....just not worth it.

I struggled a bit today at lunch! Ate some stuff that I thought was "bad". Talk about diet mentality creeping back in.

One meal/snack at a time, I suppose. I was actually hungry and stopped eating somewhere between satisfied and stuffed, a few bites more than I probably should have eaten for satisfaction, but not uncomfortably stuffed yet.

NewGirl I realize today that I find it difficult sometime to stop between satisfied and stuffed. I hate that stuffed feeling. I usually make my plate with the healthy servings of healthy food. When I finished I suddenly realized I had eaten way more than I wanted or needed as I was feeling stuffed. I would have been satisfied and much happier with about 1/4 - 1/2 less than what I ate. I think dieters have the mentality that we need to eat what's on our plates for different reasons... I think my thought is I'm only allowed to have this righit now. With IE, I know I can have it again lator or another day. Guess it is another one of those things to overcome of the "diet mentality".

Carol--My day doesn't revolve around food either. When dieting you are so focused on food it can be maddening. I think it is giving food too much power.One of the main reasons I wouldn't join OA (Overeater's Anonymous) because one of their main tenent is :"I'm powerless over food". No thank you, not me.

Well ladies I made my goal of getting under 200 lbs! I weighed in at 199.8 this morning. I am so excited and am on to my next goal of 179 lbs. I've been off Herbalife for 3 weeks now I believe and still losing just doing IE.I could do this for a lifetime which is key for me.

Congrats to Shay! What a great milestone.

My mind is still focused on a food a lot of the time, unfortunately! It has gotten a lot better since switching from Weight Watchers to IE, though.

I think that as I learn IE more and more, I'll focus on food thoughts less and less. And I cannot wait for that day to come!

As I think about the diets I've eaten over the years... I've been on diets that told me not to eat so much food and then I've been on diets that say you have to eat all the food the diet says you have to eat and then there are the eat low carb, eat lowfat, eat carbs and on and on and on. Is it any wonder that we get so confused about what to eat and what not to eat? I'm absolutely tired of dieting because I'm tired of food being the center of my life. There are a lot of diets out there of every kind and it gets sssoooo confusing. I'm always thinking about what I should eat and how it is going to affect my body because this is good for this and that is good for that etc, etc. I feel like I'm on a diet merry-go-round that just gives me a license to think about food all the time. Well, no more... I am definitely getting off.

I actually ate exactly what I wanted for breakfast and guess what? It was 2 boiled eggs and 2 slices of bacon no veggies which I had to eat on some diets and no toast that I often missed on low carb. I only ate what I wanted and the way I wanted it NO MORE AND NO LESS. I also had 1 and 1/2 c regular coffee and I enjoyed it. I have been making myself stay in bed for 7 -8 hours each night which made me groggy when I got up. I got up this morning when I woke up and felt great... it was 7:30 and I only got 6 hours sleep. I think we have to learn to listen to our bodies Intuitively in a lot of ways. I really think God created us that way and we learned to do things contrary to that not because anyone was trying to hurt us, but lifestyle has a lot to do with it. Eat by the clock because of jobs, activities etc.

Carolr I thought about how your diabetic friend's doctor told him to eat. I agree with him and I like the idea. I have a friend who said to me one day... "we know how to diet; we don't need another diet book". I agree. I also know how to eat healthy. So I have decided to make a "total commitment" to IE. I still believe it is the BEST way. That is what I'm going for Healthy Intuitive Eating.

Hello...i'm new here, don't know much about intuitive eating, but i think i am giving up "dieting" because it just doesn't work for me. I always end up binging, whether an hour, a day, or a month after i begin the diet. Always.

So i've decided to stop thinking about it...stop trying newfangled ways to control my however. However, one thing that i DO think has been important in my journey is to eat set meals at mealtimes, instead of snacking all day. That is one habit i am definitely going to keep. I am trying to teach my body that it's ok to be hungry for an hour...i can wait an hour for the next mealtime.

So here is my non-diet plan:

1) Eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner. (I've tried more frequent meals and i just end up thinking about food all the time).

2) Eat whatever i want, within reason, and as much as i want, within reason.

3) Log calories. Not sure about this one. What do you guys think? I think it helps if i write it down, that way i can just forget about it until the next mealtime (instead of keeping a running tally in my head).

Goal of all of this: stop binging and overeating. Weight will come off if i eat the amount of food that my body actually needs, instead of what my brain wants.

Is this kinda what intuitive eating is?

I'm going to the doctor today. I might have a detached retina.
